View Full Version : SEMA in Vegas
mocascion 08-10-2006, 05:26 PM Hey all,
Who's going to SEMA in Vegas? Am I correct in understanding that its only $15 for the registration fee? That seems low to me...am I missing something?
Who's been there before? Any tips/info that you can share?
The most important of them all....Bring comfortable shoes!
Not even joking. There is a reason this show is 4 days long. It takes that long to see everything.
I will be down there again this year. It really is a lot of fun, but really overwhelming. I don't recall the price.
There are bus shuttles that will run you from your hotel to the show, so you don't have to worry about cabs or anything like that. At least not for the show part.
Speaking of...make sure you keep a separate pile of cash for cab fares. And make sure that they are in different amounts too. Otherwises you'll be hearing, "sorry, I don't have change."
DO NOT bring rolls of quarters in your luggage. Apparently that machines can not tell the difference between rolls of quarters and shot gun shells. Trust me, that is not a fun time.
You can bring a backpack or something into the show. If you have one of those small rolling briefcase type of things, bring that. Carrying a backpack on your shoulders all day is fine. At first. But when you start filling it up it becomes very very heavy. Rolling it along is much easier.
Do what you can to get into the after parties. They are a lot of fun. The Scion party the first year that they were there was by far the best SEMA party I have ever been to.
Other than that, basic Vegas trip stuff applies. But I will tell you again. The shoe thing VERY IMPORTANT! Otherwise you will just be miserable the whole day.
If I think of anything else, I'll post it up.
ratcityrain 08-10-2006, 06:03 PM Yes the price is $15 a person, but when you get there you have to have proof that you were for some form of automotive company. I will be going to Sema this year (my 1st time) and I know last year when I applied to go they were very strict about letting people in. Same with this year I believe.. From what I have been told, you have to provide either some form that states you work for that employer. Not impossible to get in, but it isn't open to the public either
mocascion 08-10-2006, 06:05 PM What do I need to take to show proof? I'm mooching off my dad's company but I don't have anything like a paystub from them or business cards. What do you suggest taking as proof?
mocascion 08-10-2006, 06:28 PM This is what the site says:
Two (2) forms of approved professional identification may be required to complete your registration. The two (2) forms of qualifying identification include: one (1) form of business identification and one (1) form of personal identification.
And they also say:
Non-Exhibiting Manufacturers will only be permitted two registrants per company.
But do they consider the spouse registration as part of the "two"? If not, I can always take another person who needs in. Hopefully Mo can get time off of work so that we can go (crossing my fingers)!!!
ratcityrain 08-10-2006, 08:26 PM well the email i got from them when I signed up stated that i needed my drivers license & business card, but last year when i signed up it said i needed a pay stub, proof of insurance thru the company or w2 as well as business card & drivers license.. maybe last year they were just more strict then this
ohcanada_00 08-10-2006, 09:51 PM Sleepy Tiger might be able to help folks out.

This will be my first year, I think the registration fee is th least of the financial concerns associated with this function

They aren't that good either, because they mix them for you. It sucks. I'd rather just have shots of Jager.
ratcityrain 08-11-2006, 06:01 PM Mmmmmm....... Jager
nwscionman 08-16-2006, 12:39 AM mix them for you..... that isnt a bomb... its a mess....
I am going to look at going to this year
ratcityrain 08-16-2006, 01:28 AM I'll look for you Victor.. I can't wait to go....
MNScion 08-16-2006, 02:54 AM I went last year, and they were really sticky about proving you work in the auto industry. I had to fax a copy of our resale certificate and a copy of my business cards.
That being said, it was awesome! HUGE, so the shoe advice is great advice. I was there for three days, and I know I didn't see half of the stuff there. If you are into cars, it is a great experience!!
Was last year the first year you went?
I heard that they have been getting a little more strict about people coming who haven't been there in the past. The first time I went was a few years ago and I didn't really have any issues.
I think after you have already been, it gets easier.
MNScion 08-16-2006, 03:27 AM Last year was the first time I went. I was really surprised at how sticky they were about entrance.
So worth it though!!!
ratcityrain 08-16-2006, 04:16 AM I am worried about them not letting me in either.. I only work for the company I am going under super part time under the table so I am not on the payroll, but hopefully I can get it.. The approved my registration so that's good
nwscionman 10-31-2006, 05:26 PM I will be in Vegas in 22hrs

Kanchi 11-04-2006, 03:55 AM w00t! SEMA WAS AWSOME! I have over 500 pics, now I just need a day and a half to download them...oh well who needs to work anyways! Chris Rado was there, (he's really down to earth and friendly), among tons of other celebs!
I was a little disapointed as to the lower amount of free swag than previous years, I only got 29 lanyards total!
nwscionman 11-04-2006, 07:46 PM Alright, everyone said it would be amazing and it was big.... I had 2 days atthe show and was walking kinda fast, there were alot of things I was curious about so I talked to a bunch of vendors... I might have seen half of the available stuff... It's like everything else in Vegas.... STUPID BIG... There are a bunch of pictures posted, I took pictures with a camera from Toyota so I am waiting on the disk... I will post up some that have not been yet. One of the highlights for me was meeting Jim Farley and Jim Lentz, they were interviewed on Speed TV, they made alot of references about Scions and ways we may see some of that flavor bleeding over to the Toyota side (even more than that of the FJ) Farley did an amazing job with launching Scion and it is going to be interesting to see the success of Scion infecting the automotive world.
Steve...it was fun to hang out with you while we were able to. I don't know what happened to you at the Falken party. We ended up going to the pool and hanging out there...we snuck into the Mazda Speed party. Then we went back to the Falken party and managed to get it right away.
It's always a blast down there. Did you see the Yaris? :D
nwscionman 11-09-2006, 08:00 PM I became separated from my cohort after I saw you at the Hard Rock, I was looking for him for a while.... we saw the mile long line... decided to chill till it got a bit shorter... then I remember a 90mph cab ride from "old town" back to Caesars... the events in between are a bit .... fuzzy.... I had a BLAST at the Scion party hangin out with you guys... I am waiting for my pictures to come back from Toyota... there is a great one of dave.... I remember talking to that really hot blonde chick too...
nwscionman 11-09-2006, 08:01 PM the Yaris is SUPER SICK!!!! there were some guys talking about it on the airplane back to Seattle... including the ARB rep...
Kanchi 11-10-2006, 12:00 AM Did you see the Kaminari display w/ the Yaris?
nwscionman 11-10-2006, 07:23 PM I had the lobster... passed on the calamari
Kanchi 11-11-2006, 03:26 AM  there was a hot blond model on teh front of it...seriously :eyebrow:
