Default who else loves their roof rack?

Hey all,

I've had my roof rack for about 2 weeks now and I love it. My first use was at the lumber yard, and let me just say xb + roof rack+ ratcheting tie downs = lumber hauling goodness. The roof line is low enough (I'm 6'3") that loading lumber up top is easy and now I don't have to worry about scuffing up the interior and I can buy boards longer than 8 feet.

I'm going mountain biking this weekend and I'm looking forward to not having a muddy bike and gear in the back of my nice clean box.

Once I get my basket carrier I'll be all set for camping, can't wait.

What kind did you get? How much? Where from? I'm considering one too. I'd like to be able to haul kayaks.

Default racks

I use Yakima racks. I just picked them up from Dick's Sports. I can haul two kayaks on mine.

I purchased a yakima rack from rack attack. Free shipping and no sales tax unless you live in Oregon. I paid about $215.00.

As useful and spacious our boxes are the roof rack increases their utility a great bit. I also like the fact that I can remove it when I'm not using it to keep the nice clean look that we love these cars for.

I agree, I just recently put my roof rack on ( https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...320&highlight= )

I love it. It's pretty noisy though.

There is a definite howl around 70 or more mph. Does anyone have the faring to see if it reduces the nose? Right now my solution is to turn up the music

I had mine on about 20 minutes before I went back and bought the fairing. It really quiets the werewolf on your roof.

I don't hear a howl on my yakima racks at 70mph....

I do love not having to carry my snowboards in the car.

You really have to shop around for the rack. If you want a yakima expect to pay around 215-225. I got mine from rack attack which wasn't the cheapest for the rack and core locks, but didn't charge shipping or taxes which made their total price the cheapest I could find online. Then again maybe a LBS (local bike shop) will meet or beat a price you see online.

Good luck finding your rack.

Here is the Yakima ones on my car. I highly suggest the core locks. You don't want anyone to steak your rack or the attachments to it.

My Yakima is great. The initial setup was a little strange, but now it comes off&on easily... I used some little bits of reflective tape in the doorjambs to mark the mount locations... I just have the bare rack, and I suspect it's the attachments that howl...

The corelocks are de rigeur, for sure, and I was surprised at just how stout the whole thing really is...

Excellent hardware...

I was wondering, for those of you that take their rack on and off frequently, do the feet make any marks at all on the roof paint?

I know this will look weak, but I was thinking of putting down some of thay clear rock-blocker type of film where the feet and door clamps go. Does anyone who has a rack that they take on and off frequently think that seems necessary or useful?

I was also wondering if anyone noticed a difference in wind noise depending on how far forward or back the rack is installed on the roof.

Thanks for your helps...

And I should mention that none of the above pictures, including mine, have their racks placed in the correct spot. According to the installation manual, the front bar is supposed to only be 12" from the front window and the second bar... can't remember... 32" or something... from that.

Basically the bars are placed way more infront than where I and TJ have them. 1epoXyBox might have the front one in the right spot but the bars are spaced out too far.

But the guy from REI swears there isn't a problem with doing this. I bet if I called Yakima, they'd tell me they won't warrentee it if not placed correctly, eh?
