CARMAX

Here's one in Orlando.

http://www.carmax.com/dyn/companyinf...?location=7107

Go there and get you Civic appraised. Just tell them you want it appraised and how much the trade in would be if you want to sell it to carmax. Make sure they do not know you are trading for another car. Dont bring a second set of keys with you or give them the title or anything. They dont asked, but just in case.

On a scion sale, we are required to give you the true ACV or Actual Cash Value, for your trade. So if they told you its worth 8, then acording to black book, its worth 8. Don't be ____ed at the dealership, just get off your ___ and selll it yourself.

If you want us to agree or disagree with you, tell us more about your car, like miles, model, and equipment.

As RoryC said, with a Scion, we can only give you what the true wholesale value is. Sometimes, in a traditional sale, the dealership will show you an "allowance" for your trade. This actually includes the wholesale value of your trade, plus some or all of the discount from the new car.

Thanks for your valuable input. By the way you might want to try proofreading your posts.

They only wanted to give me 1500 for my 2000 ford focus. They didn't even start it, look inside it or anything. They just saw the same dent in the back bumper and asked how many miles it had one it (which was 55,000).

At least qualify your statement....if you do not it just makes you look ignorant. All you have met may have been scum as you say, but in no way are all salespeople scum. You have a lot of anger built up...just let it out in a constructive fashion not unbridled rage towards one subset of society.

you know what drives me nuts is that people assume that all car salesmen are dirt, but the reality is that we are simply trying to do our job. Anyone of you would be the same, if your paychecks were based on selling. It ____es me off cause all day long i get lied to by people and im an honest salesman, however its ok for the customer to lie, BS Take a week in my job and see how you would feel

Not sure what "dido" means. You might want to try looking in a dictionary. "Proofreading" absolutely is one word.

Anyway, let's quit with the personal attacks, and go back to talking about Scions. :D

Please clarify something. As I understand it Actual Cash Value is what the dealer would get from a wholesaler. In Scion-land, can the trade-in value be more than ACV if the Scion dealer is going to retail the trade-in on their lot?

That's one thing I've noticed in doing scion transactions. We have to show you ACV for your vehicle, which sucks sometimes because we can't over allow you anything. I personally have sent some of my customers to CARMAX to have them buy their trades and they bring me the check. But yeah, it's out of our hands and we are not and can't hold anything on the trade or we will be in violation of the Scion Covenant and we can loose the franchise for that when we get audited. What sucks even more is that most people are already use to seeing the over allowance for their trade, you know we give you 2000 then you say no, so we say ok what if I could do 2500 or 3000. That's the thing we can't do on scions. I have lost plenty of deals that way because the customer wanted more for his/her trade and we couldn't give them anymore. But Scion is straight up with all the numbers. No BS. The whole process is actually very nice and non-confrontational when you understand it.

ACV is the true value that the dealership is putting on the trade. It can be based on whatever the appraiser wants to base it on, whether its auction reports, a price guide like Black Book, or his gut feeling.

Nairod, so to be clear even if you are going to retail the car on your lot (assuming Scion has a used car lot) then you can only offer the customer ACV. True? If so, I guess this is how Scion dealers make up for having no dealer holdback. Hmmm...

That is correct. But the retail that we would make on the trade in would not be too far from our acv figure because since we have to stick to acv then when we sell it we have retail and loan guidelines that we have to follow in order to be in compliance with the law.
