Haha, I LOVE IT!

The install was super simple, all the parts were MADE to fit, literally.

Cost about $95 for parts, I installed it myself...

No comments on the shift-pattern sticky please, I know it might be a bit much :|

Hey just wondering. Did you do that because you like the way it looks or do you want people to think it's a stick? I'm just wondering what the motivation is. But to each his own, no need to explain if you don't want to.

Anyway, looks good. Nice job.

I'm thinking about getting one of those replacement boots from redline.

that is kind of phony...trying to be something you aren't.

I'm ok with shift boot conversions as long as the person doesn't go around trying to pretend they have a manual. For example, many luxury cars have leather shift boots on their slushy versions.

But I do have a problem when people do it to make it look like they have a manual when they really don't

mike6789k
09-15-2006, 04:51 AM
how is it phony? Can you look at the stock auto interior and now this interior and tell me it doesnt look MUCH less cheap?

thats the main reason why I did it.

chazm
09-15-2006, 06:58 PM
Why do you have a problem with that? Does it make you look bad? awww....

i'm picking up my brand new auto tc on friday, along with a shift boot, which i plan to put on as soon as i get home from the dealership.

personally, i hate the gear indicator on the auto tc. those big P,R,D letters and the jagged line it makes just looks bad. i'm not doing it to fool anyone into thinking i have a manual, and i'm sure most of us that are doing this mod aren't either. (except maybe the guy talking about a fake cluth and a shift pattern sticker) it's just more aesthetically pleasing.

i could get the shift boot for $26 from my employee discount from scion. the thing is do i need like any clips to put on or all i need is just the boot?

jonathan110987
06-18-2007, 05:28 AM
just the boot...^ it snaps into place

kiss_kiss_kill
06-18-2007, 05:40 AM
People have told me to do that because I have a "show car" & no one wants to see an automatic "show car". But hey! I'm PROUD to drive an auto. Looks clean, though I'd never do it.

kileil
06-18-2007, 05:54 AM
So everytime you drop it off for an oil change you have to explain, "No, its not broken its an auto... Yeah, I put a boot on to make it look like a manual... Reverse? Uh... 1 clicks back I think...2? I don't know..."

Hey, if it works for ya thats all that matters. I just think it could really cause some confusion and who foots the bill when the dealership drives it through a wall because they didnt check for missing foot pedals?

05-RS1
06-19-2007, 02:42 AM
on all auto cars, there is an indicator in the gauge cluster that tells you if you are in P, R, N, D, 3, 2, or 1. the only "confusion" i would see is if they didnt know to move it to the right and THEN pull down to get out of park

ZTC

how th fuk is that phony? just because its not stick doesnt mean ____. bmw does it too and im sure lexus does too(not too keen on them) its not bing phony its adding a mor sporty and classy look. its a hell of a lot better than the stock shift plate. god u one dimensional fruitcakes

scion_jon
06-19-2007, 03:00 AM
true that, thats why i did it, plus i get kicks at shows cause ppl are wondering where the clutch is hahaha

ZTC
06-19-2007, 03:07 AM
god people are just so ignorant some times. saying the boot conversion is phony is like someone cussing you out for wearing a throwback jersey because youre not shaq so dont wear a jersey with his name on it u ricer
and to the guy up there about the oil change comment any retard with common sense would be able to shift with that boot on going from the tach how it has the gear on there. if you know your car and arent some asshat driving youre moms car you know how many clicks it takes to get the car into reverse.

scion_jon
06-19-2007, 03:10 AM
yup i never llok at my tach i already know my car inside and out, damn ppl you just learn haha.

happy B DAY by the way

ya it does look short shifter like, when i had my old obx knob they came with the plastic adapters, i heated mine and slipped it lower on the shaft, it looked real good, but when i had a tear in my boot (my fault for not putting leather cleaner) i had to take it off, also i bought new knob and they came with metal adapters, and i had to cut my plastic one off lol
