Default capability of stock motor

Hey guys, sorry i'm new here and haven't been able to raid the forums yet but i want to know how much boost is safe on the stock motor. I don't really have any idea for this car because i came from an srt4 where compression was 8.5 and the stock motor could hold over 450hp. this car has higher compression and i have been hearing that if we pull the motor apart we would be dissapointed with the internals. I definitely want to boost it, just need some suggestions.

I wouldnt go over 9psi.

8psi on a good ___ tune for stock block is ur best bet

As long as you have good engine management you can run 12-13psi no problem on that motor. I just put an AEM EMS in my car I will be done tuning it this afternoon I will tell you how much whp is makes. You can definitely go more than 9psi...as long as you don’t have any detonation your fine.

on stock cap off @ 10psi. anything above that id be a lil weary. Rasta make sure you start awhol e new trhead cant wait to see it.

12 - 13 psi??? Wow you got *****, let me know how your motor is in 30k miles....

Thats not meant to be smart @ss remark there, i would like to seriously see how a high boost set up will hol don our motors...

Think some company should put our engine on a stand and run it for like a month straight with some boost on it now i'd throw $100 to that cause

I agree here. Unless this isnt a daily driven car. I dont think that much boost one a high compression motor will last long no matter how good your tune is.

I think it is do able. Just do not go over 9-10 psi with any base map you get. Anything over 10 psi, I recommend getting custom tuned. Also anyone who thinks our cars have high compression really does not have actual experience with high compression boosted applications.

our engine has a fairly descent compression as it was designd to work with f/i from the get go (s/c) with a 9:6:1 c/r your good till about 10psi before internal work needs to be done.

haha, i'm just stuck in my honda days sometimes my stock compression was 10.5:1 on my old B18C5... I'm preparing to be flamed for that comment lol

So would it be safe to assume it would be safer to be at 9.5 psi on my s/c set-up, than it would be to be at 9.5psi on a Turbo set-up?

its not SC or Turbo thats the question, its really the size of the compressor thats the question. I mean you tune SCs and turbos slightly differently because of the way they spool and boost lag on turbos etc. however most of the turbos used for our car are bigger compressors so 9.5psi on a relatively large compressor (turbo) compared to 9.5 psi on a relative medium SC compressor (Supercharger) means more air flow from turbo which in turb means more fuel, which means bigger bang.

So to answer your question, on your particular SC yes it is safer but thats only because your compressor is slightly smaller diameter wise so you're creating less "bang"

if you were to max out cfm numbers on the F trim vortech unit and a 16G the blower is gonna be making a lot more power, I dont know the exact setup tnetics uses but its a 50-1 and I bet the blower will outflow that also.
Vortech F Trim rated for 475whp, flows about 700cfm
The GT Evo 3 Big 16G Rated for 380HP, flows about 575cfm.

+1 on that brotha!!!

Seriously though, power levels have a lot to do with the tune. You also need to ask yourself what you are building the car for and what you want to do with it. High horsepower numbers are fun if you plan to be a dyno queen, but in the real world racing comes down to many things other than pure hp numbers.

Yea, but as kytc has stated, the blower on our set-up is limited by pulley size. The smallest pulley you can fit is a 14psi unit. But yes the Blower we use is rated at 20psi and 475hp.
