View Full Version : de-badged
TJFitz 08-16-2006, 02:06 AM Well, I thought about it for a while and went ahead and did it. I removed my badges off of the rear of my xB. Both the Scion logo and the xB logo and I feel it really looks great. It was a very easy job too. A heat gun, fishing line, Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover and a towel is all it took. If you havn't done it yet or if you are thinking about it...do it. Only t hink is if you wait to long there maybe a bit of color change under the badges.
Nydheart 08-16-2006, 02:18 AM I see that quite a few people have done this to their xB but I was curious as to why? I sometimes see people driving cars that they have done obvious modifications to the body that have removed the logos. Just curious.
justdrive 08-16-2006, 02:25 AM I've been doing it for years, My Chrysler 300M, Audi RS6, the Box, and even my Benz, I just like the stealth look, It's great with the RS6, people just look and stare when you knock out a 4 sec. 0-60 and they have know Idea what you are driving
Jenna 08-16-2006, 02:27 AM I see that quite a few people have done this to their xB but I was curious as to why? I sometimes see people driving cars that they have done obvious modifications to the body that have removed the logos. Just curious.
I just think it looks nicer.
Jenna 08-16-2006, 02:29 AM Oh, and I forgot. WTG on the badge removal TJFitz! I did that to our TCM too. Husband won't let me take off his though, lol.
evosky 08-16-2006, 02:29 AM in terms of our xB, the scion and xB bades do not flow with the lines of the car and they are both obnoxiously large for the size of the rear hatch. the debadge gives the back of th ecar a much needed cleaner look. same goes for the front grille piece.
people also debadge to keep the model of the car anonymous for aesthetic, performance, or sometimes security reasons. many luxury and exotic cars have the option of factory debadge, where they will not put the badge on the car at the customer's request. (aka BMW)
TJFitz 08-16-2006, 02:50 AM My wife has a silver BMW E36 M3 ( what a beautiful car) and I am removed the M3 badge from it. It is just funny to me to see how many idiots ask me what kind of car it is. I normally with a strait face tell them it is an older concept for the Ford F40 or I just make up a name on the fly.
I discoverd a thing that drove me nuts today about the xB. The front scion logo is so very easy to remove. It is just to stinking bad there would be a big hole felt in the middle of the grill if I left it off. The xB would look so great it didn't have the logo on the front!
evosky 08-16-2006, 12:34 PM ^^^ yup. that's why you gotta get the bB badge. it does wonders for the front grille. no joke.
willlangford 08-16-2006, 03:59 PM ^^^ yup. that's why you gotta get the bB badge. it does wonders for the front grille. no joke.
i think bbist has them....who else?
jayse 08-16-2006, 04:52 PM one reason for debadging - CLEAN
To a lot of designer-type people it just looks so much better.
To many, leaving them on is like getting a new TV and leaving all the '1080p! HD REsolution! Longer Battery Life!' metal stickers all over it.
Or like leaving your 'I'm a VIP at Crap Cars' license plate frame on...
It just gets too messy and noisy and advertisy-ish.
'Shaved' is always beautiful. ;-)

evosky 08-16-2006, 05:32 PM i dont know if bBist has them, but i know ebay has a billion. i personally got mine off of ebay (front and rear badges) shipped for 19.99 through paypal.
TRobles 08-16-2006, 06:20 PM Just took mine off, best mod I have done to my xb, all i used was fishing line.
MrMoon 08-16-2006, 09:57 PM The only exterior ID on mine is a bB badge on the front and the tiny Toyota logos next to the DOT info on the windows. I've had more than a few people walk round and round the car trying to figure out what it is -- as if I wouldn't need to explain anyway.
I HATE badges on my vehicles. I was so happy when manufacturers switched to stuck-on badges. No holes to fill and repaint.
Nydheart 08-16-2006, 10:27 PM I see your point, let me ask one more dumb question. What is a bb badge and why would you want that on but not the scion badge or the xb badge on the back? Thanks.
MrMoon 08-16-2006, 11:51 PM The xB is the bB in Japan. the bB badge is small and rectangular, about the size of a Zippo lighter. The bB lettering is stylized and doesn't call attention to itself. The badge fills in the hole left when the big Scion logo is removed from the stock grill. Or, rather, the bB logo fits into the recess that was meant for it in the first place, that the Scion logo covers up. I used the bB badge because I didn't want to get some other grill, didn't want the big honkin' Scion badge, or a weird hole on the grill.
evosky 08-17-2006, 01:22 AM ^^^ ditto.
trust us, when you see the bB badge and the way toyota originally designed the box, everything starts to make sense .... and you will figure out the meaning of life. haha.
willlangford 08-17-2006, 06:50 AM yes buy a bB badge to figure out the meaning of life!
jayse ----how did you do that to your tails. i wanna do that to my toater really bad..
Nydheart 08-17-2006, 11:08 AM Nice, anyone have a link to a site where you can purchase a bb badge? Thanks.
Speaker_Box22 08-17-2006, 11:25 AM So if I just basically peel the badges off of the box, there's no holes underneath them?
evosky 08-17-2006, 12:17 PM ^^^ correct. basically all cars nowadays used sticky foam to attach emblems and badges. rarely do they screw or punch them into the sides of the car.
for bB badges, i recommend eBay. they're your best bet.
Desnudate883 08-17-2006, 06:55 PM what about a debadged xa
evosky 08-17-2006, 08:05 PM what about a debadged xa
do you mean does this apply to the xA? - yes it does, it's just sticky foam.
the xA = iSt in asia, and you can get those badges through ebay and other sources also.
Speaker_Box22 08-18-2006, 04:04 AM Thanks for that tid bit of info. I'm going for the clean look but I do have some badges that I'm gonna put on my box that I haven't seen on anyone eles's yet so in a couple of months get ready for it. Thanks again evosky. Peace........
evosky 08-18-2006, 12:35 PM np man. have fun with the new badges.
kirksucks611 01-02-2008, 10:15 PM whoever did work on my Xb before i owned it put the rear badges back on crooked. i may have to shave mine too. thanks for the input.
kirksucks611 01-20-2008, 06:53 PM screw me X 1000
i just used floss and ... nothing.. my rear scion logo came of easy..
bas news is, theres a lighter shade of paint, in the shape of the scion oval under it. its like they got a cheap paint job and didnt take off the badges first. I'm so horribly upset i cant even believe it.
now, not only can i NOT debadge, I have to put my emblem back on ... crooked.
this sucks
tanakasan 01-20-2008, 06:57 PM jayse, very nice example of shaved hatch! Looks like a Hotwheels!
ShadowOnTheBayou 01-20-2008, 07:36 PM screw me X 1000

You should be able to buff that out. Take the badge off, clean the car, wax and buff it. The paint will match.
kirksucks611 01-21-2008, 02:26 AM no way dude.. its like a totally different paint layer. not just fading. you can see where one ends and the other begins. I had to put it back on.
tanakasan 01-21-2008, 03:30 AM Too bad about the crooked emblem. Whole car repainted or just the hatch?
kirksucks611 01-21-2008, 02:01 PM the more closely i look at my car.. (washed and waxed yesterday) i notice more crap. i have a feeling (salvage title) that this this was worked over.
the paint on the top of the rear hatch, above the window, is the same thin crappy paint job as the oval under the emblem. i just dont understand how it could have been taken off, then put back on wrong before they repainted it. maybe they thought they were "finished" put the badge on, then realised the paint job was crap so they taped off the logo and put another coat on.. but forgot to paint the top part.
the nose piece is all crooked and loose too. theres bolts missing and holes that dont line up.
oh well it was still an 05, with 29K miles for $7500. [bought in nov. ]
i'd like to debadge the front but theres that little space left. any ideas besides a Bb logo?
tanakasan 01-21-2008, 04:15 PM Emblem could have been knocked crooked or completely off from whatever previous damage? I doubt (although its possible) that it was crooked from the factory.
Especially since you said it came right off. Usually takes a little doing, it stuck pretty good OEM.
bB grille emblem is the cleanest, quickest fix for that Scion wart that comes stock. From there, custom work comes into play if you are so inclined. There is a post here someone that fabricated the grille ridges to fill the void. Looked nice.
TorchedPerfection86 01-23-2008, 02:49 PM Here is a shot taken from my cell of my rear debadged. Cant wait till show season so i can put all the fun stuff back on :P

I know how you feel Winter sucks all the goodies come off to avoid damage and give me my traction in snow since th sports tires just turn into big sleds
The picture of a the debadged just makes the car look so much classier and finished
exzess 03-12-2008, 02:27 PM how do u debadge the emblems?? ive looked n see it nowere /:
burstaneurysm 03-12-2008, 02:29 PM ^ Well... on the tC, you can pull the tC emblem with a heatgun and your fingers, or fishingline.
The Scion emblem has two tabs, so you'd be left with holes in your hatch if you got rid of it. So you're better off getting a shaved garnish replacement.

agentorunge 03-17-2008, 12:38 AM ^^looks tight. i gotta debadge my scion emblem, since i've only debadged the xb emblem...
Raceking924 03-17-2008, 01:12 AM i have a tcm, i debadged the scion logo and the dealer had a logo on the car that i took off, i decided to keep the xB logo on it, but i took it off, paitned it black and put it back on. looks good in my opinion.

vettereddie 03-17-2008, 01:56 AM Well, some people de-badge to make room for custom badges. I'm going with a decepticon theme. I'm old enough to have grown up with Transformers and not just play off the movie, and I must say it seems to set the car off nicely. Thanks to EZ-BAKED for the quality of the emblems, no cast aluminum eBay here.
Oh, the rear wipers are now gone as well.

TheSaint77 07-10-2008, 09:47 PM So the front badge just pops off?
evosky 07-10-2008, 11:40 PM yeah. it hangs onto the front grille with a couple of clips behind the grille. there are three slots that it hooks into. it's just pop-in, pop-out.
bmph8ter 07-11-2008, 12:52 AM As everyone else says, floss is THE THING for removing the rear emblem. I normally leave something parked out in the sun for a few hours first too.
TheSaint77 07-11-2008, 02:55 AM well then, I might just have to match the front to the back

vettereddie 07-11-2008, 12:21 PM Tails are a headlight armor overlay

ALL HAIL MEGATRON!!!
It is clear, we shall do battle one day!
Winter 07-16-2008, 06:55 AM took mine off some time ago, though i did it in a rather brutal way. used a wide thin chizzle tool *used mainly for dry walling* and slowly but surely went through the sticky goo. i used some goop off to get rid of the rest of the sticky crap. that night, my pain meds were really getting to me and i wasn't feeling too good so i let my buddy take over because he seemed confident enough saying he's done it several dozen times before... now i have scruff marks that i need to buff out =(.
vettereddie 07-16-2008, 01:12 PM Try the plastic drywall putty knives. They should not scratch.
If you ned to buff, get a powerball and some polishing compount, but use a cordless, not corded drill or you may overheat and damage the paint.
Winter 07-16-2008, 07:26 PM oddly enough, i don't think it was the knife it's self. i was the one that actually got the badges off, but i let him handle the goop off and i think he used too much and push too much pressure in taking off the glue cause that goop off will eat through the clear coat if too much is used. and the scuffs are all in a circular motion.
i'll have to try the battery drill then if i can find it. i was actually just going to hand buff it out with the possibility of having to get a can of clear coat for one of the scruffs cause i think theres a couple spots where there isn't any clear coat at all I.E. feels like chips but the color paint isn't chipped. so i figure a bit of clear coat on that and then just buff it out and it'll be good to go.
vettereddie 07-16-2008, 08:34 PM Oh, he used chemical stuff. I just used a heat gun to soften it up and the plastic putty knife.
