So I traded in my 05 tC for an 06 xB. I thought that for sure my insurance was going to go down. I mean - 160hp 2-Door Coupe vs 103hp 4-Door MiniWagon.
Anyways, dealer told me they faxed the papers over to my insurance company so I needed to call them to authorize change. I talk to the lady and my insurance is $60 more a year than the tC!!! I was stunned and had her double check everything!!! Sure enough, insurance had gone up. Go figure...

well they probably figure in the # of airbags, crash ratings, and such.
but yeah I know how you feel.
I went from a 1995 Nissan Pickup 4x4 with a V6, and my insurance went up with my xB.

Insurance is all about the liability coverage unless the vehicle is higher risk such as a "sports car" or "most stolen". True 4x4's also cost more- presumably people take them off road and crash them?
I went from a Saturn Vue (AWD, 250 hp V6) to the xB. My insurance went up $3/year because I no longer got a "discount" for having side airbags. The discounts I get for having ABS and an alarm system are equally insignificant. Usually you'll get the biggest discounts for having multiple policies. Buy some renter's insurance for $120/year and you could get a $50 discount on your auto policy.
Before you buy a vehicle, you can call your insurance agent to find out how much it'll change your premiums. They can usually give a ballpark number unless it's a new model (like a 2007 Honda Fit). Mine will give an exact amount if I provide a VIN- just search for a comparable model in online dealer inventory or eBay.

There was this old song... probably when I was in diapers... "who's zoomin who" I think. My ins. is $661/yr from Wawanesa. That's for 4 vehicles including a 4wd, '05 xB, 59 Viking and '83 Chevy crew cab that weighs 2.2 tons! My wife and self are the only drivers, but still... I live in the woods and drive the s#!T out of these things, and so does she! Airbags my ^ss. Someone's gettin' zoomed! Shop around!
OBTW I called my then current ins.co., AIG, from the showroom floor on a cell phone and had the new papers faxed into the dealership while my kids were running roughshod in the tC on the floor! Modern Technology!

I think every resident of the State of MA wishes they could shop around. Sadly I will not get a better insurance premium since I am getting 6% discount through work which makes it a better rate than anything any other company in MA could offer...

Each depends on the insurance company, the risk, the chance of an accident in your zip code. There are many factors. But basically, the xB has a lot of blind spots and prone to accidents.

I would shop around, insruance companies vary A LOT. My old man in 1999 bought a camaro SS, he had a perfect driving record, not even a parking ticket. Farmers wanted to charge him 900 every six months, he was 62 then, progressive for the same coverage was 350 every six months. Personally I would stay away from farmers, they seem to be really high. I went from an 04 lancer ralliart to a 06 xB and went down 15 a month.

Yeah that was a nice feature. Turn 25 and your insurance gets cut in half. Why is it that guys pay more than women though? What's with that? Women drive like maniacs.

Each depends on the insurance company, the risk, the chance of an accident in your zip code. There are many factors. Yup. "My momma tol me, you gotta shop around...." I'm a lucky so-and-so 'cause at my age and living here in the backwaters of SE MN they almost give my insurance to me. I still shop around regularly and there is a lot of variation from company to company.
But basically, the xB has a lot of blind spots and prone to accidents.HUH?? What you do to your xB to give it blind spots? Mine has about the LEAST amount of blind space of any vehicle I've ever driven! You sit up nice and high and there's a LOT of glass, and . . . . You want to talk about blind spots: I was visiting San Jose last spring and they gave me a rental Chevy Equinox to drive and in heavy traffic it was AWFUL (pretty bad in light traffic, too ;^) -- blind spots EVERYWHERE!! OK, I'm all done ranting now . . . .

I went from a 2000 BMW 323i to the box I pay $100 more a year, paying $125 a month. It all depends where u live. My friends has a 95 mazda rx7 twin turbo, in seattle he was going to pay $250 a month, so he has it insured in Nabraska where his parents are, he pay $80 a month.

Yeah, but paying that much for someone who is 29, has no claims, clean record???? And thats with discount such as alarm. Keep in mine also that this coverage I got has a $500 dedcutable in collision and 500 dedcutable in medical, plus no "acts of god" coverage, meaning if my car got damaged froma hurricane, there no coverage for that. A full "full coveage" will cost me $1968.53 for every to be covered that I just mentioned. :tap:

I saw no change in going from a VW Passat (one of the safest cars on the road) to the xB (4-star safety, not bad), and both were paid for already.
And, as far as I'm concerned, the premium reduction at age 25 is a myth; I saw no reduction.
Insurance rates are based upon many factors:
1. Human repair costs - much higher than cars or property repair costs.
2. Car repair costs - much more common than human repairs.
3. Location - Florida drivers don't wreck in the snow, PA drivers don't lose their cars in hurricanes.
4. Driver demographics - young males are demonstrably more risky than anyone else.
5. Commute distance per day - less is better.
6. Insured's choice in deductible & coverage. Don't expect your $100 deductible and $1 million coverage to come cheap.
7. Insurer payout rate & policy. I have heard that some "low rates" (e.g.: Progressive) are low because they won't pay for new parts (used or copies are OK), or they won't pay for the repairs. One garage I heard of will not accept Progressive because they don't pay - so what good is your insurance then, or how would you like to have to accept a Chinese-made fender for your car?

Well, when I was 24 I had a 93 Chevy S-10 Blazer and I was paying $135 a month. I turned 25 and my payment dropped to $67.50. I did have a short commute though and had no speeding tickets or accidents.
