Default Dissapointed With test drive

ALright, heres the deal, i have been wanting a new car for awhile and the scion tc looks promising for a good tuner car that will be getting work done to it.

The body looks good, the interior is nice. But was dissapointed when i drove it. This thing is WEAK.

The only thing thats holding me back is the low power rating on the car, im also looking at golf 1.8t's and that was much faster than the tc and also drove a lot better.

Just seems for other cars in its class this one is the slowest out of the bunch. Am i too picky?

It's about price... the 1.8t is going to run you a few more bucks and have less standard features, like the reclineable rear seats, full glass roof, TOYOTA Engine and reliability...

I've had vws for years and am a Scion Convert... 160hp and 168 trq to start isn't too shaby, and it's VERY easy to build more and more...

Competing with the "faster" cars doesn't take much, and that's half the fun, as upgrading a 1.8t is a heck of a lot more expensive than upgrading the tC...

i think RELIABILITY on the 2.4L camry engine was what convinced me to buy the tC.

It was the costly maintence and expensive repair and replacement cost of the VWs that pulled me out of them and into the tC. I know the chip deals, had a 2002 chipped Golf TDI, and then ran a 2001 Passat B5 GLX V6 for a while... everything I wanted to add cost more, the cost of ownership and insurance was more, and the reliability of them, along with their constant plummeting on Consumer Reports and other publications really turned me to the top ranked and top selling Scions... Since then, A SUPER Enthusiast and Owner of one of the best Home-Grown Scion tCs around.

Since you test drove both you should make your decision from that instead of what people say on messege boards. I'm sure if you went over to vwvotex they'd obviously be in favor of the 1.8t. Just make the decision yourself and then you have no one to blame but yourself later on. Write down pros and cons of both cars and judge from there.

Really? The 1.8T is much faster? Can you show us some numbers regarding the acceleration of the 1.8T because we know that butt dynos can be deceiving.

Chipped 1.8Ts are indeed fast. They are also in the gray area when it comes to warranty so some dealers won't do warranty work when you chip your car.

Have you been to VWVortex? Try the MKIV forum for 1.8T info if you haven't.

I will tell you what a few years ago is sold VW's and I will tell you what, they came off of the truck with the check engine light all ready on. We had nothing but problems with those cars. The golf and the gti took months to get the parts to fix the problems and we must off lemoned out at least 5 in the 4 months i worked for them!

When a good number of people have 100,000 miles on them with great results, I will believe it. With a history or horrible reliability, they are going to have to buy back peoples trust over time. And no test performed yet can tell of the cars reliability. Long term use will be it.. and I dont mean 30k... that means absolutely squat.

then get the GTI! The tC isnt meant to be fast! Otherwise they wouldnt have put an econo sedan engine in it with a 6250 redline. The power in a stock tC is adequate but by no means quick. If youre truelly looking for speed, youre looking at the wrong cars.

Im pretty sure that all of us didnt buy the scion because of its speed and acceleration, but where the tc lacks in agility it makes up with reliability. Besides there is alot you can do with a tc, so dont think that the feel of the stock tc will be the same after u mod it.

this is true, i bought mine based on the fact that it was a toyota product and it should be good to go, but i have been let down so far on that note!
