what bodykit did u get?

tc2nut4
08-24-2006, 05:42 PM
it's really clean and simple, the Buddy Club sides, Drifter 2 rear and m3 front, I was supposed to prototype one for a company but that fell through, and I already shipped out my old m3 bumper so I had to order one from viniati

ScionizedRide
08-24-2006, 05:44 PM

RedLine_tC

cant wait to see this combo...3 different styles of body kits into one combo :D...

i like the m3 front bumber, and the buddy club sides, the drifter rear is alright, but lets see this put together

tc2nut4
08-24-2006, 05:48 PM
yup, I'll be posting pics as they move along at the shop, I actually work right down the street :) So I can seee them tear her down and put her back together whenever I want lol... I was thinking about throwing a Kaminari spoiler in there and an APR splitter for the front but waddya think about that???

yeah for now, still adding to the piggy bank, first I need to buy some blizzaks for winter and then replace my old rims (long story blew my engine had to sell my SC and rims to get a new one  ) and lets not forget turbo :)

I hope sometime next summer to have it a new color, I'm letting some other people be the guinea pigs first when it comes to colors on the TC

ScionizedRide
08-24-2006, 05:54 PM
i like the APR splitter, im gonna put it on my car if i get cf hood.....dont know about the kaminari wing, see if it'll look good after the bodykit is on.

good luck! keep us updated on the progress

tc2nut4
08-24-2006, 09:20 PM
hmmm... i wonder where I could find a OEM upper grille???? :lalala:

cant wait to see the outcome, in my opinion though i think that the e46 m3 front looks way too rounded to match up with the drifter rear and bc sides

tc2nut4
08-25-2006, 02:42 PM
hey I'm open to criticism and atleast you kept it constructive :P But it was hard to find a REALLY simple kit, the TRD lip just didn't do enough for me and the RS1 kit just didn't fit or flow all that well, I love theM3 front however the sides and rear to that kit are horrendous. The drifter 2 rear is by far my favorite though, its so clean hopefully it all works out. You're right I debated for a while about the BC sides, I had the drifter 2 sides but bleh fitted terrible and didn't mount flush it came up onto the front fender and I don't like that at all...

Keep the comments comin, hopefully I'll be able to take soem more pics today...

tc2nut4
08-28-2006, 07:55 PM
just for the record... they are going to fit it and make sure its done properly lol. I would never disgrace my car without properly fitting a kit, I guess I should have mentioned they were going to fit it right in the above pics haha, but they tell me that it will be seamless with the body lines when they are done, but its going to run me an extra $250 for labor to add and remove the fiberglass to fit the contours. I'd personally vomit if I ever saw a car with that poor of fitment driving around. Ed I can't really say what its going to run because I am getting the chips in my hood fixed, the minor ding in my quarter panel and also fixing my door jam that the previous owner scraped up when he got locked out with his hanger  :tap: But for all the body work I just did it is going to run me like $1200 bucks...

This is whats going on with the front and rear bumper. The front bumper has grilles for the foglight area and top grille which was supposed to fit the OEM grille but I guess someone screwed their mold along the process :tap: The rear has been painted and needs wet sanded and buffed, and then I get my car back just in time for the rain

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k30/tc2nut4/SSPX0050.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k30/tc2nut4/SSPX0048.jpg

Not sure what I'm going to do for the lower grille, I was hoping to fit a sheet of plastic honeycomb material like factory but i can't seem to find it anywhere. Not even sure what its called but if anyone has any ideas I'm open to suggestions. For now it's going to have the black stainless stell honey comb mesh, but everything behind it has been sprayed black so it won't be too bad. I was also thinking about getting another lower OEM grill and cutting it to fit INSIDE the bumper and put a thin strip of robber around it and screwing it in some how. The OEM lower grille is long enough but its not quite tall enough leaving me a 1/8" gap that I'd need to seal and I think the rupper strip could make up for that. We'll have to see, so if anyone has the OEM lower grille I'll take it off your hands haha... I also have projector fog lights that I'll be putting in when i get the car back from the shop.

yeah, they said they can, by molding or adding and removing fiberglass like with the rear bumper but this paint work already ran me about $500 over my original invoice, so I'll add some more money to the piggy bank and fix it with my December commission check. I had to pull money from my turbo fund to finish this part of the project :(

please dont mold the sideskirts. it will crack. no matter how well its adhered, glued, or screwed, they always crack. just file and fill until you have a clean uniform gap. It will turn out much more pro looking, and will stay looking nice. other than that, looking good.

yeah thats what i was thinking, i'm just gonna have them add and remove glass as necessary... probably do that within the next few months, if they would have told me how they fit I would have had them do it now, but since I'd have to pay them to sand, re-prep, lay the glass, let it set blah blah blah I don't have the fundage right now lol

The top of the bumper (above the grille) looks warped. If you look at the line between the bumper and the hood you can see why the grille looks "shorter" on the left side. I don't know anything about bodykits so I can't give any advice on how to fix it, but it's really not that noticable.

The sideskirts and rear bumper flow together pretty well but I'm really not sure about the flow with Tury's M3 front bumper. I guess I'd have to see it personally.

Considering the body parts you have chosen as a mixed combo, I kinda know the direction you're going with your cars setup. You seem to want the sophisticated look rather than the totally aggressive look. Aggressive is good but, in my opinion, too much of it doesn't look all great on TC's. Yours is a clean setup that I like and I may be doing the same setup but without the M3 front bumper. I'm thinkin' about the viniati fierce lip front bumper.

What kind of paint are they using? I dont like the fact that they are burning it in up top. I know with the brand we use (sherwin williams automotive) it always shows up later on and looks like hell no matter how much you polish it. But good luck.

hmmm not sure off hand what paint they used... i know it wasn'y SWA... please elaborate on "burning it in"

Burning it in or Melting it in, which ever you want to call it is what you do when you dont paint from the qtr panel all the way over the roof rail down the windshield post.

you basically tape it off like in the pic above and you stop your cleacoat just short of the paper. Kinda like when you blend basecoat but with the clear so its a little dry. Then you take your blend solvent(which burns it in/melts it)(SWA uses a product called BS10) and spray it over the the dry spray of the clear coat and it basically melts it in with the old clear. When its done right it doesnt look bad at all but will show up later down the road. It will look like dry spray. Im not sure if other paints like ppg or sikkens or dupont do it but i know that sherwin does this. Hope this helps.

yeah. everyone should use IRFANVIEW! it's the best damn image viewer out there! it's fast, has tons of features, and it's FREE!

just make sure you use the "RESAMPLING" option if you resize an image to keep it crisp and clear without jaggies.
