Hardhitten 11-25-2003, 12:29 AM Nice to meet you too there. I guess I have to look for the keychain or something.. Im going to look like this if I keep getting shocked.......http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/contrib/sarge/q3aHappyBones.gif
ScionJohn 11-25-2003, 01:31 AM Nice to meet you at the Milpitas mini meet last night. Thank you for coming down! Actually, due to colder season and not much rain. The colder the air the more static you will get from your car. Have been getting shocked from my seats also.
sithscripter 11-25-2003, 04:24 AM Yes, I've been getting shocked pretty badly during the past few weeks.
I do have one of those JDM keychain things to discharge the static, this one with a built-in LED voltmeter thing. Friday night I actually got the 10,000 volt light to blink ...
sithscripter 11-25-2003, 04:26 PM make sure you shock your self before you pump your gas...
Good point xB ey ... I saw it on Oprah ... OK, it was on the TV in the cafeteria at work ... they had actual gas station security camera footage of static electricity setting off gasoline fumes at the pump. Anyway they said the most dangerous thing is locking the nozzle open and getting back in the car (to make phone calls, do nails, etc.) because you build up a static charge again.
Cletusaz 03-30-2008, 07:07 AM Yeah I live in Arizona and im getting shocked ALL the time! Seriously its probably 3 out of 4 times I get out of my xB.
joseph33615 03-30-2008, 07:18 AM RESURRECTION! But it happens to me all the time, Florida is really not that humid right now. To deal with it, I usually touch the door with my elbow since its less painful and annoying as the fingers. Try it!
flying_toaster 03-30-2008, 01:40 PM i had the smae exact problem with my xb too. but mine started happening right when i got new seat covers. and when i took them off i stopped getting shocked. could this maybe be the case for you?
jonjon-a-tron 03-30-2008, 03:09 PM you prolly just carry a lot of static..try changing your laundry detergent or softener
WhoKilledTheJAMs 03-30-2008, 09:09 PM Get some grounding straps, and try to put them way under the middle of the car if the sight of them bothers you much.
My xB doesn't shock me, but my girlfriend's Intrepid does, constantly. It's the damndest thing. Particularly, I think it's the one hoodie of mine that does it, too.
CSOCSO 03-30-2008, 09:23 PM i have the same problem.. well i have a TC.. but sometimes.. usually when its cold out there i get shocked.. which is really bad because im a delivery guy in part time.. so on the weekend i could get shocked like.. 20-30 times :D:D:D: but only when its cold..
i dont know why.. and im always wearing the same cloths during those days...
snowromance 03-30-2008, 10:20 PM doesnt matter what im wearing... 90% of the time i go to shut my door i get shocked. its getting annoying.
Sciond 03-31-2008, 01:22 PM Micheal J and I were on skateboards and I noticed this thread.....
hwybox 03-31-2008, 02:32 PM This guy has not been on here since 04 he prob doesn't even have a xB anymore lol. I also get shocked all the time I just use my elbow to close the door.

I do the same. I use my elbow to close my door because getting shocked with my finger is not a good sensation. Normally, I get shocked when the weather gets cooler. I switched my car mats from carpet to rubber and that helped a little bit. Coincidence? Not sure but is seems to have worked a little. I don't get shocked as much.
__TOASTERBOY__ 03-31-2008, 03:45 PM Ii have that happen to me a lot... I think it only happens during certain weather conditions
Mooneyzs 03-31-2008, 04:01 PM The best thing you can do is when you are getting out of your car grab and touch the window pilar and you won't get shocked. I get shocked as well if I don't grab any metal while I am getting out of my box. that is what I found works for me is to touch some part of the car....metal of course when exiting the car.
midtowndesi 03-31-2008, 04:24 PM l0l - me and my girl have been getting shocked so much lately! i actually shocker her last night as i was pumping gas. immediately after i realized how dangerous that was!
and the shocks are so strong! not wimpy ones! l0l0l0l
Shan14 03-31-2008, 11:07 PM I get drier hands in the colder months. I tried putting on some lotion before going out. No more shocks on the hands.
Cletusaz 04-01-2008, 12:12 AM I talked to a guy about a lil experiment. I'm going to take 12 inches of 12awg wire and strip the first end and attach it somewhere under the car preferably near the center. (it lowered so no one will see it that way) and strip the last 4 inches or so that will drag on the ground. It should reduce or eliminate the shock but I will repost my findings soon.

That's a waste of time. The electricity gets generated when your rear end rubs agains the seat. Seat itself in an insulator. The static won't drain to ground.

Specifically here is my foolproof and cheap (free) solution:http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2378188#2378188
It really works!
quackPOT 04-03-2008, 07:57 AM This happens to me almost every single time I get out of my car and touch the door to shut it. Sometimes out of the blue, it'll be a larger discharge and it hurts. It's damned annoying.
I'm thinking the fabric in the seats is what causes it. ZAP!
Maybe we can get a group buy on these...

x2 I opne my door, grab the window frame, and then get out. Simple and effective.
GreatMazinga 04-03-2008, 04:53 PM I use an anti-static cling spray on my fabric areas, seats, door, carpet, floor mats. In a pinch I also use dryer sheets and put them on my floormat or rub it on my seats.
rosedaleny806 04-03-2008, 04:55 PM ugh my TC does that too wtff lmao everytime im gonna close the door it happens
SciRunner 04-04-2008, 02:00 AM Must be all that dry weather. I get shock in my xB and my 4Runner w/fabric seats. I don't get shock when I'm wearing leather gloves (dont get the ones with fleece). Stash a pair in the glove compartment. You can also buy non-lined leather driving gloves that allow better gripping.
nogarb6 04-04-2008, 04:27 AM Happens all the time here. Oh wait, Wisconsin SUCKS!
dqlostsoulz 04-04-2008, 04:33 AM happens to me all the time......... :tap:
Nastos 04-04-2008, 04:36 AM make a ground wire kit
peteski 04-07-2008, 09:27 AM Maybe the moderator will take pitty on us and lock this thread. I posted a sure fire way of preventing getting shocked ( I know that it works) and couple of links to similar threads. It is silly to rehash all the options once again on this thread.
