I many miles must i have to acheive before i can drive fast. I heard it was after 5000 miles and others told me just keep the car at 3k rpm. I just got my car a week ago and I need to drive to the freeway really soon. So can someone describe "break in" for me?

 

drive...normally. don't overdo it thats about it.

i went 1500 before i drovie it hard and i also changed the oil at that time

 

there's no problem with driving on the freeway

just vary your RPM's and don't drive for like 8 hours straight or something

 

careful not to mess around too much, like overrev it

 

just drive normal and you'll be fine. you should try to experience the whole rpm range though, and no consistent rpms so if you're on the highway just try to vary the speeds every so often. you don't have to stay under 3k, just don't floor it to redline every gear. shift gears when you feel like it, it should be fine.

 

i drove it over 60 the first day. it's really difficult to not mash the gas your first day with a new toy.

also..while you don't want to redline it early in the going, you also don't want to keep it at a constant rpm.

 

Just drive like your mom or grandmother and you'll be fine...hows that!

yup that's how i did it. I only went up past 60 a few times in my first 1k miles.

From my understanding of it, they do most of the break-in of engines at the plant nowadays. I'm still waiting a few more months to get my tC but when i do i'm gonna ask the dealer about it.

I do know that when my parents bought their 2003 toyota sienna, they had to change the oil at 500 miles, and couldn't drive over 55 for the first 1k miles. After that they were fine.

But when my dad bought his 2005 4runner, they told him not to change the oil till 3k and drive it however you want right out of the box.

But i will be taking it easy for the first 3k miles. I will also change the oil at 500 miles just for my own peace of mind.

 

ok, when i bought mine i asked the dealer. this is what he said.
stay under 60
do not continue the same speed for an extended period of time
do not accelerate quickly (passed half throttle)
do not exceed 3000rpm
follow these rules for 1000k

i went 100mph one time.
exceeded to 4000rpm a few times
gave it 3/4 throttle frequintly
and at 1010k i gunned it very hard.
no problems.
its a precaution, but i wouldnt dwindle to far from what i did. the engine does need to get warmed up and ready for ya!

Engines are built with much tighter tolerances then in the olden days. Back when 'breaking in the motor' meant that seals needed to adjust and seat correctly. With todays tolerances your break in is very small unless your driving a new rotary engine. Last time I checked the tC was a stupid piston motor that is in the camry, so im willing to bet the tolerances are SO tight (as they make a crap ton of them with little failures) that the tC's break in period is short or pretty much non-existant.

 

they toldl me tht i didnt have to break it in.. they ytold me not to wry about it but i took it slowly till 1K miles

 

there really isnt a 'break in' period.... atleast not like how it used to be. Break used to mean no flooring, nothing over 55-60MPH, no hard breaking, a few other things.
Just drive carefully and you'll be fine..... I think it's a good idea to get a normal feel of the car before steppin on it anyway.

 

people say 500 miles..i'll do it for 1000. but AS SOON AS its 1001. im going WOT. just for kicks. but then its back to babying.
