Default Just bought an 07 Tc... but the engine has a weird smell.

Hey guys, I just bought an 07 Tc today, and I was driving it for quite a while but the whole time I was driving it, i never stalled (it's a manual) and I never went past 4,000 rpm, but right after I turn off the engine I smell this weird rubber burning smell from the engine. It wasn't only once, because I cooled down my engine and went out for another drive like for 5 minutes and it made that same smell, this has happened about 4 times already. What is wrong with my engine?

It is possible that it is some of the dressing up they use on the cars. I remember the same thing when I bought my xb.

the smell is coming from the oil they spray on the engine when its shipped here via boat so it won't rust,it will go away

I always believed that smell was all the plastic in the car. Like the radiator shroud. Valve cover..... etc

Its normal. Smell will go away after a few days.

Yeah that happened on my 07 Tc too. At first, I thought it was the cluth or something burning. Don't worry, it goes away after a few hundred miles.

it's on all new cars. no worries. enjoy! a brake burn or clutch burn smells more.............. obnoxious IMO. I'm sure you'll know if that ever happens.

Same here, at 1,500 miles, I still smell it. But it's also 100 degrees here in L.A.

Once again its the Kosmolene. Its a rust inhibitor/protectant applied to the exhaust parts for overseas shipping. Usually burns off after a couple hundred miles.

Its a very scary smell but its perfectly normal. It'll go away after a month or so. Run it hard and proud with no worries!
