Default POLL: $1,000 supercharger kit, would you buy it?

I don't mean to steal ZPI's thunder from their post. I was intending to make this poll for some time.

Anyway, the kit in question is the one I am still developing (no.. didn't abandon it yet) using used Roots blowers from older gm cars. It's an Eaton M62. I will be reworking the kit this weekend and might have it back on the car by monday to do some more testing.

At any rate, at this point I'm simply curious if there IS or IS NOT interest in this. I see no reason why I couldn't come in at about $1,000 flat. Of course, this would be using used superchargers. If the kit were to go through, each blower would be reconditioned and either powdercoated, or something to make it look new again.

I don't care if they are used because they will almost always outlast the car they are on. Heck, the one I am using looks brand new , works great, and is 14 years old LOL.

What I am looking for is a fairly serious answer. I needa realistic number to see if it's worth going forward with in selling it. Details as to full specs and everything would come later.. but focus on the thought of a blower kit for $1,000 using a used part.

I don't know much about powdercoating to say yes or no to the heat issue. It's just an option and to keep costs down I would probably either go with paint or simply clean it up and prime it so you all can do whatever you want with it on your own.

Give me another week or so and I should have some more progress made on it and see if my redesign worked out the issues I ran into before.

I would also be doing a dyno comparison. It doesn't take more then 30 minutes to put it on or take it off so doing a back to back run would be easy.

I don't think it would fit an xA. . . being that we don't have that much space to work with, but I'd buy it without hessitation if it were $1000 flat.

No dice for it fitting under the hood on an xA, we have one too and no, it will certainly not fit. If this worked out well enough for the xB I would look into getting something to work on the xA as well.

.. But I don't want to get ahead of myself.

That's cool. It was just an idea It already 'feels' powdercoated so I don't know how much difference it would make. At any rate... that's a bit off in the distance to worry about right now hehe.

i know, i am just so hyped up right now trying to find a solution for boosting i dont even remeber what i say half the time, but ya, what are they made of, cast steel?, aluminum? i would dig polishing the **** out of this baby, i saw someone on here do it and it looked sick!

They are made out of Cast Aluminum. I am sure once you got past the coating that is already on it *it is not bare aluminum* you could get that thing very sparkly. the coating that is on there helps protect against corrosion buildup. You see this offten on the ones that are not coated (later generations).

Don't be in too much of a hurry to boost it. I think this motor on boost is in it's infancy and we are all still trying to learn the best way to go about it. I'm just trying to do it cheaply hehe.

More to come later.

If the S/C setup was proven to work, trust me, you wont have enough inventory to fill the orders. Everyone would want one.

High-temp powdercoats can hold up to more than 1000F. I do not know what a SC gets to, but I am thinking it ain't that high.

If you prime it, that primer would have to come back off to powdercoat it. Don't prime them.

Actually max what i was saying was that powdercoating the s/c would cause it to retain heat, keeping it hot as hell. It would negate most benefits of it being aluminum most likely.

I realize what you said. I quoted and replied to a different post.

Hah, if I only had the time

So much going on and trips coming up this weekend and two week from now and trips in november and december. I don't want to go thousands of miles with a prototype on the car that's untested. Much less do I have the time to put it on. Sadly, this may not actually have any more development until next year.. if at all.

All the parts I've made so far along with the blower/pulley/belt are up for grabs if anyone wants to buy whats here and keep debeloping. pm me.
