Default Help!! My windshield cracked.. need help

ok so on my way home from work...... SMACK, this rock hits my windshield and this tiny little crack formed.......... and on the rest of the way home it seems to appear... well longer... then i get home and wanna cry...... i go out to the car later and WAM its a huge sob!!

so my question is, if this has happened to anyone before how much did it cost deductible wise from your insurance company....... and with this car being so new, do ya guys think i'm gonna be waitin awhile for a new windshield? any input would be appreciated

oh.. and i also thought it got my rear windshield, but i'm tryin to rub out what looks like a crack and feels like it and some of its coming out some of its not and i cant figure out what the heck it is...... oh im stressed out. it better not be another crack..

What is your deductible? You will be looking at over $500 I would think for a new windshield. Plus only the dealers may be able to get one, the aftermarket is so new.

My winshield cracked on my first car a couple years ago after some strange object fell off of a small pickup truck on the freeway. AAA couldn't really do much about it since I didn't catch the license plate. I just ended up calling a glass company to replace it, out of pocket. I think it was almost $300. I used to drive a 2000 Mazda Protege. Not the same exact situation but hope it helps..

A rock hit the windshield of my Civic a few months ago and I freaked out too. Luckily, it was no big deal. I have Mercury Insurance and the deductible was only $100 and they sent the company out to my house to fix it the next day. I hope you have a similar experience. -Jayme

Check with your ins. company. Most policies consider glass and vandalism under the comprehensive and not collision so not only is the deductible lower, usually around $100, but it doesn't count against you like having an accident so it doesn't affect your rates.

Good luck. I got a tiny chip in mine 3 weeks after I got it. About a foot below and to the right of the mirror. I bought a DIY repair kit but have never gotten around to fix it but amazingly, it has never grown. After all the cracked windshields I've seen and heard of lately, I realize how lucky I've been. Man, I gotta try that repair kit since I just jynxed myself... :?

As for insurance. If you tell them it was a rock, they will likely charge you your collision deductable. If you tell them something flew out of another vehicle and hit you, you may be able to get it under the comprehensive deductable. Even if you dont have information like the plates or specific vehicle information.

standard deduct. is $100 for glass... it's like a run of the mill deductable for all ins. co's .. providing you have full coverage ... call 'em up ... they're used to it ... I'm about to have my 2nd windshield installed ... damn rocks

So the Scion cheap windshield problem holds true even for the tc's huh? Actually, I won't start any false rumors, maybe yours is a freak occurance, but many of us with xb's have been riddled with windshield damage and the only thing I can figure is that Scion is cutting corners on their windshields. Do a search on the subject and you'll see what I mean. As for the deductible, after repairing 2 chips in the first 4 months of owning my xb, I changed my comprehensive deductible (covers acts of god like windshield and hail damage) to $50, which only amounts to $6 more dolars a month. It might be something you want to consider. Its worth the piece of mind.

CHeck out any forum with cars that have similar windshield angles. It's not just a Scion thing, IMO.

I think all SUV and trucks should be required to have mudflaps. Their huge tires kick up rocks and rainwater a lot higher than cars do. I do not understand why so few SUVs and trucks have mud flaps. I got my windshield cracked when a Ford Explorer kicked up a rock my way.

I make sure I stay far back from any SUV and truck.

I have State Farm and have comprehensive which covers cracked windshield 100%. I would think other comprehensive plans are similar.

Isn't there places that have FREE CRACK REPAIR on windshields? If it's a small crack, they can patch it somehow....I had this on one of my old cars, a company came out and patched my windshield...did not replace the whole thing.

Try that first....they can stop the crack from spreading.

Good point. I had this done several years ago and I think the cost was around $50
