Well it looks like my oil return line is starting to melt a little bit. any advice before this turns into a mess of oil all over my downpipe?

 

muffler rap from pep boys if you want an easy quick fix. For something more refined i say good luck. I will have to go look at mine now and c if mine is doing the same thing.

 

What did you use for an oil return line? How did you route it?

Are you running a stock exhaust? Are you doing warm up and cool down cycles at idle after you finish playing with your toy?

I've been running a lot of AC for the two weeks that my cars been turbo -Maybe the constant AC fan is helping to cool down my oil return line.

ahh, see i ran mine behind the downpipe. it was the only way we could run it with keeping a decent downward angle.

That's a 45-deg brass elbow that I'm using in the photo's. If you choose to route it like me then the line only needs to be 16" long -but it may vary with the angle you clock the turbo. Once you lossen the center cartidge clamp and the snap-ring on the cold side of the turbo you can literaly move the oil cartridge and the return oil line nipple to where you want which is typically as far away as possible from the down-pipe. You can also wrap the line in alumimun tape to help protect it against heat.

I've found a special 407 stainless steel corrugated hose that should be a perfect fit for the ZPI kit as an oil return line. I'm still working out a source -I'll update when I can get it all setup.

Wrap that line in gold foil...

Not really, but gold foil heat film is one of the most heat reflective materials than you can find...

same stuff used on the lmp and formula cars...and also. is used by top teams in F1 and WRC...

 

Ahh good news.. the great guys @ ZPI are sending me a new oil return line :D Thanks again guys ('n gal)! Hopefully I wont have to clock the turbo too much to run the return line in front of the dp.

 

I had that same problem... routed poorly and after only a couple days the outer layer of the oil return line. It held up for months, though. (Mine was different from the one in the picture.)

I got a DEI Cool Tube Extreme to cover the new one and so far so good!

 

Thats a nice clean WRX pic! <3 WRX. Why isnt the oil return line threaded steel or whatever....? Just wondering...
