xA or tC? Help I'm in a love triangle!!
Hi all!
I'm looking into getting a new car. And I love the tC, I'm not gonna lie.
But right now, I drive a '95 toyota landcruiser and I get roughly 180 miles per fill up. Now, I really want to get a tC, but I read that it doesn't get the best gas mileage?
I have been researching the xA and I'm really starting to love it. It's just so darn cute! But as far as wow factor and luxury I was wondering how does it do? I mean, the tC has the wow factor, but the xA has to grow on you...I think... I don't know. I guess its each person's individual opinion.
I did test drive the tC, but not the xA. I mean, does it drive like a econobox? Does it have a quiet cabin like the tC?
And I love the fact that it gets great gas mileage. So now I'm in a dilemma, I love the tC and the xA so I don't know which to choose. I am commuter student going to college and I roughly drive 200+ miles per week...
I mean, I will be having this car for the next 6-9 years and I just can't decide!
For those with the xA and tC how would you solve my problem?
Please help me! I'm caught in a love triangle!!! :?
Rebecca
Sorry I posted in two places, but I wanted to get both sides of feedback...

I own both an xA and xB. The xA is LOUD on the inside. It drives mostly like an econobox but handles fairly well.
Personally, I would go xB or tC. I like our xA but overall, other than a simple commuter car there isn't much it offers.

here's what you mentioned...
"quiet cabin like the tC? "
OK glass is a good sound barrier, but this car is no Lexus. compared with say the Matrix, which had a loud engine...yes this is more quiet.
"wow factor and luxury?"
wow is a stretch..i think with the tC you will get 'hey' factor...this is not a Ferrari
Luxury? well, you are looking at the wrong make entirely.
but read your own post. the only thing you said about the xA is that it is 'cute'. If you want 'cute', get a vw bug or a mini cooper. i'd call the xA functional and utilitarian, the tC...hmm, how is 'hip' for an adjective?

Wow, thanks so much to everyone!
Yeah, the reason that I said wow factor is because that is exactly what I said when I saw it for the 1st time on the road. And I realize that it's no lexus, but for a college student, its pretty darn nice, dont ya think?
I am just worried that the xA will feel like a toyota echo. I rode in one a couple years back and it sucked so bad!!

going around town. stoplights and stopsigns galore, i get 300 miles per tank. I usually fill up after the light goes on and i have gone 280 usually at that point...and i believe that the car still has roughly 2 gallons left. By the way i'm talking about the tC.
I've ridden in an Echo, and the xA is no Echo.
Personally, I love my xA, the great fuel mileage it gets, and the fact that I rarely see one around town. I see alot more tC's and xB's.
If you get the side airbags, the xA is ranked fairly high for crash saftey as well.

like Zillon, I test drove an Echo before I bought the xA and there's no way in hell you can compare them. The xA was much more quieter, handled better and felt stronger. Now between xA and Tc GO with the Tc. The xA was a lil more fun to drive because it felt like a go kart and I always felt more confident on it taking curves at high speeds. The Tc in the other hand feels like a boat for some reason but after it's lowered it feels better. The power difference is amazing on the Tc (comparing the two) and is soo much more comfortable and quiet. I had some noise issues with the xA (rattles, road noise, etc) that I deff don't have with the Tc. The xA only looks good when lowered, but so does the Tc(not as bad). If the issue is gas, let me tell you that I didn't really noticed much of a difference. I used to get about 31mpg on the xA, and now I get about 29 on the Tc. The weird thing is that the xA is rated for more but I didn't get what it was supposed to, and in the other hand the Tc is rated for less and I get more than what's advertise. I can only give you my experience now is up to you to decide. Good luck on the Buy!!!
What love triangle? Is there a third car that I'm missing? I always thought a tri (meaning 3) angle had 3 points? What kind of math are they teaching these days?
Seriously, you should test drive the xA and go from there. But to compare these 2 is like comparing apples to oranges. Good luck and let us know what'cha choose.

250 miles X 52 weeks/ 35MPG X $3 = $1114.29 annual fuel cost for xA.
If you bought the xA, you'd save more than 3 grand from a tC.
That's like FREE GAS for 3 years !
Think like a college student, buy the xA, when you graduate, then upgrade.
The xA rocks man, as said before there arn't too many around, but also due to that, there aren't as many aftermarket parts for them either... which sucks
But I've been in my friends tC, and while it's pretty nice... I still think my xA is better... it's all about first impressions and money... I saw the xA for the first time in a 2005 cataloge my dad got from the LA autoshow, and loved the look of the xA. And when it came time to get me a new car (since my old one pretty much died) the low cost and reliability of Toyota led me to the xA.

i like both. i think the xa is very quiet.
i personally dont like xa, because for a bit more i could have an xb. :D thats the only reason haha
but speaking without my bias towards xb, xa is nice. economical. good seating. but that isnt what i like at the moment. id much rather have a sportier 2 door with a much greater performance potential. i get 300miles before the idiot light comes on, which is about 2 gallons left... so i get around 24-27mpg. not too bad really.

As far as "luxury," the tC is definately not a Luxury car, but it does have many 'luxury' features. In fact, all of the Scion line do... 1-touch Power windows, things like that. Things that make the car feel worth more than it is.
Test drive all three, and see what YOU really want.
They're all nice. I'm a big fan of the xB myself, and the xA looks really good fixed up.
