I went to Wal-Mart earlier to look for a cheap steering wheel cover and found one I liked. It was a black mesh steering wheel cover I believe by a company called autologix or something like that.

Only problem is that there was a warning on the back of the packaging that said something like "This item contains lead and other chemicals known in the state of California to cause cancer."

Anyone know what that is all about? Why would they sell a steering wheel cover that has lead in it?

That is a little hard to understand. Not sure I would want to wrap my hands around that for an extended period of time.

Well, thanks for the little chuckles guys. I ended up getting one at Checker Auto parts that looked nicer than the one at Wal-Mart. The one I got is made by Bell Automotive. It didn't have any dangerous chemical warning, but I bet it's made of the same stuff anyway.

It is actually quite an important law, as lead buildup in the body can cause life long problems such as retardation and learning disabilities.

Walmart has had several recalls of products they sell due to high amounts of lead being found. Also keep in mind that Walmart is a major contributor to this nation's trade deficit in that it encourages vendors to go to China for product if the vendor cannot meet the price Walmart wants to pay. About 10% of our $220B trade deficit with China is attributable to Walmart.

By forcing vendors to buy products that dont have strict environmental and safety laws, we endanger our children and this countries future.
