Yeah. Stretched tires do look neat, but I wouldn't be riding on stretched tires. You can easily puncture the sidewalls. I always stick to the manufacturer specs. Like a 205 on a 6.5", a 215 on a 7", a 225 on 7.5", etc.

A little bit of stretch do help a tad and add some stiffness to the car but I would not run any kind of extreme stretch too hard. Good thing Scions can not take hard corners and it all for looks so we all should be good !! :P

So what do you guys think about a 225 on a 9" wide rim?

I wouldn't even call that Stretch, you will be fine !!

Yea thats not a stretch at all. I would put a 215 on a 9" wide wheel if the wheel is a 17 or 18. As for Scion's not taking hard corners. I beg to differ. And yes I had stretched tires on the track. 215/35 on 8.5 and 225/35 on a 9.5

I didn't take it to the track nor tooke hard corner but just on street and my tire poped on me but this is a tad too much for most people !! 215/35-18 on 18x11s !!

But even at normal driving, they are not beaded all the way !! This is with 60 PSI, daily driver !!

man that stretch looks good.. i have a 215 on a 17x9. hopefully they dont do what you have in the pic.. but then again i dont drive crazy.

Falken FK452 tires are the best to stretch. Thats what they are made for... Check them out at www.fk452.com

Well any Falken is good to stretch. Flaken tires have the smallist tread width.

Before I voice my opinion let me say I'm not calling anybody here stupid.

But my god that is the most moronic thing I've ever seen. Why install a bunch of performance parts on a car that are intended to help the performance and ruin not only the apperance of performance but also the actual performance.


When it's all said and done it's your money, time, and car. Which means do what you want, just be safe and think twice when somebody comes up with the idea that it's "cool" to install brakes that are 2 sizes smaller than the brakes that came on the car.

Again that's just my opinion.

got 215 on 8.5 now with no problem, have under 5mm of clearnace between my tires and fenders (cut out the un-needed lip) at full drop with no problems. Dunlop Sport FM901's is where it's at :clap:

Falken ST215 are one of the best for stretching because it has steel reinforced sidewalls. Stretched tires have been in use for many years in gymkhana and drifting in the US and overseas. A properly inflated and matched tire can pop just as easily as a reasonably stretched tire. If you use cheap tires like kumho escta they will eventually pop regardless of being stretched or not.

I don't have a problem with my stretched tires other than my camber ruined them. drove two years on it with out any problems at all. In Japan, cars drift on it all the time. I'm sick of people bashing and b!tching about stretched tires.

it's a style and look. It's exciting to see. I love the look when done right. I drool on the those crazy Silvias and RX-7's ultra dumped with the lip kissing the fender. I will have that someday

To me stretching tires is not a style, and I don't get people people who just do it to say they have done it, for me that was the only option !!
On my car I run 215s on 18x11 but for the same car I'm running 245s on my 12s sure I could go 235 or even 225 to get the same look as my 215s but there is no need for it since the wheels have higher offset !!

Tire stretching is what they used to do on mini trucks in the early 80's w/curb feelers sticking out the sides...and also on cars like mustang 5.0's. Always looked a bit ghetto lame to me. 50 series stretched on gold daytons....Whatever floats your boat I guess.

tire stretching is done so poorly 99% of the time.

It seems to be people choosing to not spend a mere $50+ per tire that are doing it.

To me it says "I got $1000 worth of rims, but ride on $30 tires from walmart." Around here you see lots of these 10+ year old cadillacs are driving on stretched 13"s from walmart.
