Looking for DIY Wire Harness Upgrade Install for Low beams
Sorry if this is a repost, but I did a search and came up with nothing. I just want a DIY on how to take an aftermarket wire harness from an auto parts store and replace the stock one so I don't have to worry about frying my low beams using aftermarket bulbs with higher wattage. Pictures would help as well.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
i upgraded my wiring harness on my celica awhile back. all it is just cut and paste. well.. more like cut and tape/splice. the harness comes with two wires; a positive and a negative. you unplug your low beam bulb, cut the two wires.. reconnect them with the aftermarket wire and .. youre done! :D
sorry for the no pictures. its pretty simple
unless you're talking about something else :/

i think its from a 55w to a 80w or wutevers.. the nokya bulbs and lumitic bulbs draw more power
oh and that is the only way of installing the new harness. either soilder or cut and tape/shrink wrap.

My high beams are 100W, but thats because they are never used for an extended period of time. If I kill the harness, i'll replace it then. My low beams are 55W 9006. I've had this for a while and no problems even when I use my brights sometimes...just for your info
heres a little research that i've done...I found a couple
9005 harness (plug and play): http://store.racinglab.com/kyoplheduwih1.html
9006: http://store.racinglab.com/kyoplheduwih2.html
I don't know that website...maybe somebody has a website of a place they trust...

^ those have nothing to do w/ anything. a real harness upgrade requires a relay. if your not putting in a relay, your not doing jack. all you realy need is some wire, some t-taps, a relay, and some butt connectors and an extra 9006 sockets if you dont want to cut ANY of the factory wires. which i highly reccomend. it is easy and safe and reliable to use t-taps and butt connectors to do this mod. should cost you less than $7 if you make it yourself.
feed the realy w/ +12V from the battery, ground it, use a "signal" wire to feed the relay from the stock +12V swittched wire(headlight) and then use the output of the relay to power the 2 new 9006 sockets you just bought. boom.. if you have everything in front of you, should take less than 30min to do. just need to know how to wire up a realy and have some basic wirng tools

i think squall posted that answer on onther place but
basically bad connection causes heat
i am assuming that the connection in the 9006 bulb was badly designed (assumption since i did not purchase lumins.. i got silver stars)
squall used conductive grease to prevent this problem. rite rite?

.... wiring harness shouldn't really do anything.. it's still power that comes from the battery.
a new one might be able to handle more wattage.. that's about it.

^ in theory yes. but if you have larger wires, then more current can pass thus =ing brighter output. the power would come right from the battery instead of going through the switch, computer, long ___ wiring harness, ect ect... dont for one minute think that your getting every watt out of a stock bulb w/ your stock harness.... when i posted that above, i was using STOCK bulbs... the stock wiring was limiting the current flow.. soon as i bypassed all stock, and did a relay.. boom, id say 20% brighter w/ the larger/shorter/ relayed upgrade...
