Default How LONG???

Okay...this might be a stupid question...but as they say "The only stupid question is the one not asked."....

How long should my xB crank before starting when I turn the key. It's a brand new car. (well, I've put 500 miles on it )

I was giving a friend a ride and the thing cranked for like ten seconds and I had to turn it off and turn the key again to get it to catch. My friend said, It shouldnt do that!

Now the big challenge is it does this intermittently! I took it to the dealer and the sales guy was all like "Ah yeah it shouldnt do that" I took it to the shop and it seemed like they didn't do a thing to it. Then I called the guy at the shop and he seemed ____ed and said they are not supposed to start right away. That sounds pretty lame to me. I hate to think he is telling me this cuz I'm a girl...and a blonde at that! lol.

Anyway, yall have given me good advice before so I know I can count on my Scion "family"!

Thanking you in advance!

that's not normal. talk to the Scion service manager, and tell him what's going on. Tell him you KNOW it's definetly not normal.

Sad to say, they might be bs'ing you because you're female. Some low life's at dealers do that.

On fuel injected cars though you are supposed to turn the key on for like 5 seconds and the pump will put fuel to the motor then try and start it....it sounds like the fuel is not there for it to start up right a way.

hehe... are you a wrestler too? thanx!

I knew I could count on yall!

MrMcnugget... great advice. That fuel injection thing could be why it does it sometimes and not others...because it did start when I pumped the gas. You'd think a service person just would've told me that. Jeesh! thanx for the heads up on Rivergate too!

no im a motorhome salesman *aka faux knowledge and alot of pushing* haha, good luck, wish you lived local, my dad is a manager at a toyo/scion dealer, but typically scion is pretty darn good with customer service. were such a loyal bunch. also how long have you had the xB for, ill have my pops look up the warranties on the individual parts that could be causing the problem, dont let them BS you into something you dont want, if you want a new one and its under warranty, make them give you a new one. period.

Yah, sounded like fuel or fire to me since the battery cranks and its too new for it to be air. But since it does start after awhile, and doesn't run rough, it's most likely fuel related.
