Everything has to be CARB approved or you stand the chance of getting a big fixit ticket............

i hate to say that but if the "swoosh" sound is one of ur goals in getting a turbo then thats rice.

if u dont want to get pulled over, dont create the attention.

get a turbo to make more power.

^ Boo.... May not be a Goal, bet definately a significant PLUS! Nothing like that sound to make you SMILE!

Still doesn't matter about attention... The don't have to hear a BOV or see anything significant to inspect your engine bay anyways... they can pull you over for anything, like signal violation, or "Improper" lane change if they suspect anything and have the right and ability to look in the bay as well, it's horrible.

It's a gamble... you win, you drive away, you lose.... well, not the most fun.

Don't they have to ask for permission first? Unless they hear a super loud BOV they have no reason to to just barge in your car and open your hood. They ask "may I see your engine?" But just say no.

The sad part about this CARB BS is that state could make millions of dollars if only they where a more lenian. They could let you mod your engine any way you want, as long as you agree to keep your smog lvls under the legal limits, take a yearly smog check, pay a higher car tax, and if your car doesn't pass smog check pay a hefty fine.

No. As long as you have California plates and are operating a motor vehicle on a California public road, your car is subject to mechanical inspection for road worthiness.

They ask "may I see your engine?" But just say no.
At which point they can order your vehicle to be towed to it's registered address (at your expense, of course) and parked until it can be inspected at a referee station.

It's a real shock we can mod out cars at all in Cali... and we're supposed to be a crazy, wild, out-there state...

Hell! High performance and awesome customization was started in Cali damn it!

Exactly as stated above.... You can't say no... unless you want to be towed... It's all crap and we can thank politicians and street racers for the crackdown on tuning...

You pretty much have no ability to hide anything, if they pull you over, it's all fair game for them, and you're at their mercy... Just pray for a very generous cop...

Gone are the days when you can say "No"... that just makes your life worse nowadays...

The cops would do a lot more than make you take your BOV valve off... more like make you take the whole turbo system off.

But... if you drive responsibly, follow the speed limit, stop signs and such, and don't race around like a show off... then chances are you would be ok. At least that's what I am counting on!!

What do you guys think would be the odds of getting pulled over with the set up I'm planning?

TRD SC
Headers
Full exhaust with rest., 1 or 2 high flow cats, and Tanabe Medallion Touring axle back.
Short ram intate inside a custom CAI box
Air/Water Charge cooler

^^ As with any mod, you should be OK as long as you don't draw attention to yourself by driving like an idiot.

Like stated above, just as long as you are not driving like an azz, you should decrease the chances of getting pulled over, but not completely eliminate them, if you have any visible mods/items on your car, thats good enough for the cop to look for any reason to pull you over, for example: body kit, lowered car, wheels, exhaust, HID kits, stickers advertising the mods you have, big tach and or gauges, etc... I have a body kit, but no aftermarket exhaust or stickers(except for my car club stickers), cops usually don't give me a second look. We have 2 guys in our club with turbos and so far they have been very fortunate, but to be honest with you, its only a matter of time before they get pulled over cause of their turbo, infact one of them got pulled over once by his house and the CHP looked under his hood and did not say anything, lucky I guess(rookie maybe?).

since this is a "what if" question

you might as well add the danger of "theft"

just dont drive like a retard and you should be okay... the tC looks like a new car still so then they dont really know if they come turbo or not... with the evos and sti'... they get confused..

i got pulled over many times with my turbo... as long as you drive cool in front of them... ur good... BUT if you smash on your gas then blow off all loud in front of em... then for sure you'll get rolled...

If you're too scared of cops and what not... go Supercharged... its legal and its alil safer... but it does have a hefty price tag on it...

on you though..
