I found drops of fluid on my garage floor. It looked too clean to be oil, I thought it was power steering fluid becase my Geo Prism's power steering rod seal leaked after 12 years of use. The local garage diagnosed it as a slight leak of the oil pan gasket, or seal. I am ready to do an oil change and this would be the time to fix that leak.
So, I want to know if anyone has pulled the oil pan. Is there an oil pan gasket? Or do they use a tube of gue to form a seal on the oil pan?
I checked the fishe and the repair manual available on this site, no luck.
The search for 'oil pan gasket' was fruitless. Thanks for the info that I don't know.

If it's actually leaking there don't you think the powertrain warranty might be of use?

I would love to use the warranty, but I am ready to do the 45,000 mile oil change.
I drove too far.

No problem.

If you can change your oil, you can do this. Waiting 2 hours at a dealer is not fun.

I have one more question.... or maybe two more....
How do I remove all oil from the pan and what it bolts onto?
I have paper towels, but that is not what a real mechanic uses.
Is there a spray or something else I don't know about?
How important is the torque? Will I need to buy a torque wench?

you can use brake clean spray to clean out all that oil

Powertrain warranty is 5/60, and it sounds like you might be better off taking advantage of it. The sealer is FIPG (formed in place gasket) and the surfaces to be sealed need to be perfectly clean. If you are unsure of how to go about this, I would leave it to the dealership.

5 years and or 60,000 miles! Great. Thanks Scott, I will verify and let the dealer do it. My brain was stuck on the 3 year, 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

I took mine off when I installed the turbo kit. Its very easy, take the small bolts off, use a skinny chisel or flat head screwdriver to slice in between the pan and the block. (Dont pry). After taking it off, just scrape the old sealant with a razor or something. I used black silicone sealant (from pepboys) and put it back on. Took about 45 minutes.

The dealer cleaned it up and tried to find the slow leak. They say that it is NOT the oil pan or gasket that is leaking.
They said that it might be from that PERRIN PULLY that I installed.
If it is, then I have to pay the $24 seal and $176 for labor to install.
Did anyone strike oil when installing the light weight pully?
I had no problems removing and installing the pully, the pin was fine and that part of the install went fine. The bolt was very tight, but that is how it is, from what I read.
I am going to start a new thread about my new problem.
I am so glad that I did not replace the Form In Place Gasket. The dealer says that they almost never leak.
