Default HID Lights dilema

Im not to knowledgable about HID lights, but can I basically replace the factory bulbs with some aftermarket HID lights and get the HID effect to it without causing any damage to my car. It is as simple as it seems to to just replace the bulbs and BAM I have it or is there alot more to it. I dont wanna screw up my car or anything, but I want that HID blue light effect to it and any help would be greatly appreciated.

real HID's are not plug-n-play.

if you want a nice light on the road do this mod! Worked out great for me as well as others...

Crap bulbs can mess up your lights too, seen someone's melt before. Those bulbs are NOT HID, you will get a bad blue reflection

stocks, the lights are 9006 for low and 9005 for high.

in this mod you buy 9005 Silverstars and mod them to fit the low beam socket which is 9006. the 9005 silverstars give off more light output and lumens than the 9006.

The mod mentioned above sound like the result would be my low beams would be as bright as my high beams. even though the reflective plate would be different the output would be the same. Any more suggestions

You could try some HIR bulbs. Halogen Infared Reflective bulbs give you about 75% more light output for the same amount of energy. They do require modification like a 9005/9006 retro and can be found on Ebay for about $30 PER bulb.

if you want to do it right, do a retrofit. a decent HID kit will cost you between $200-250. you can get kits under 200 but they'll be crap. best thing to do is a retrofit. it'll look the best and have the best output. just throwing HIDs in your stock housing will result in hot spots and glare.

HIR bulbs

These bulbs attain light levels 75% to 110% brighter than stock as a result of an engineering process that deposits multiple, yet almost invisible, layers of semi-reflective coating on the surface of a specially shaped quartz bulb. This coating ( a titania/silica, zinc oxide/silica, zirconia/silica, silicon nitride/silica, and titania/magnesium fluoride tantalam/silica multi-layer dielectric, according to the patent) reflects a portion of the infrared energy emitted by the filament back onto the filament, causing it to glow brighter and emit more light from the uncoated forward portion of the bulb. Although the filament gets hotter, the glass does not. IT GENERATES NO MORE HEAT THAN A REGULAR HALOGEN BULB, AND IT DRAWS THE SAME WATTAGE AND AMPERAGE AS THE STOCK 9006 BULB IT REPLACES

^Taken from http://hirheadlights.com/

HID bulbs

They are "arc tubes" without any filament. In the tube are two electrodes and a xenon gas that, when energized, creates an arc that lights the tube. The tubes will have a ballast (one for each tube) that begins the lighting process.

More info http://www.gmtcny.com/high_intensity...ge_lightin.htm

Higher wattage 'simulated HID' 9006 bulbs

Notice the blue tinted glass. This absorbs some of the light emitted by the filament which causes a decrease in the amount of light that actually hits the road.

Standard 9006 bulbs

No tint here. Just clear glass all the way around. All 9006 bulbs have an opaque section at the top.
