I also had Hollywood Video part time but recently quit that.

Is there a community college near you which may have some intro EET courses? I've seen several people at my college who start the program but don't realize how math intensive it is and drop out right away.
But once a person can get past the intro classes with an understanding of EET, the jobs out there are great!
Note: If you maintain a high GPA, get an internship with a company you want to work for while you're in school. This is the best way to get into the industry and get a higher paying position at the conclusion of your degree!
kkawana 09-19-2006, 06:50 PM .... Next year I want to attend Western University. The plan is to get into the EET Program (electronic engineering technology). ....
hmm.. i have a BASEET degree...i think... i found them the other day while looking for other papers..lmao

Shifty 09-20-2006, 12:02 AM Peninsula College is somewhat limited with its technical classes, they don't have the EET. I am working my math up slowly. That's my biggest concern as I'm not the best number cruncher.
Any suggestions on classes I should or should not be taking? I only recently learned of the degree from someone I met at work, so it's not set in stone. I'm not even positive on everything I'm working toward. I mentioned to him that I'm better with hardware than software. After reading the course description and the classes it seems like you can branch out into networking or programming and beyond.
This is only my second quarter at school. Would it be worth attaining my associate degree first?
This quarter will be English 111, Chemistry 101, and Math 99.
I've completed History 101, Sociology 101, and Math 97.
(as you can see math is my weakness but it's slowly getting better)
Degree ideas would be great if you don't mind my asking. If there is something less math intensive than the EET degree, I’m open to ideas.
Thanks and sorry for all the questions.
kkawana 09-20-2006, 12:20 AM umm... honestly its been 8-9yrs since i took the classes... and one thing at ITT that drew me in.. was the fact that everything was related to what i was studying... no general philosophy bs, creative writing, ect....
the english/writing was geared towards technical writing, how things work etc.... math was all geared to things you'd use in the field... even sociology was based more for work place than gen pop...
no chem, history classes etc.... i got my Associates first in 2yrs.. then went for a 3rd year and got my BA... all 3 years were year round.. with just a couple 2 week breaks for holidays/summer
from what i've heard ITT has expanded their programs to network admin, robotics and tons of other stuff... when i went they just had electronics and CAD....
like i said... i went cuz it wasnt required to take bunch of classes i knew i'd suck at.... plus i actually like the field
oh yeah.. math wanst my strong point either.... but they start at 101 and work up thru calculas and touch on statistics a bit too.. but think that was for the BA..
its amazing how once you get goin on it.. you pick up things... but stop using it for a time..and its like huh???
qrymson 09-20-2006, 12:37 AM wow thats no good man, but hopefully things go good with your medboard. I was a saw gunner for a while, but I really like my job as a SDM.. what unit are you with??
SDM must be cool. i was a pretty good shot but the spot was already taken. i'm over here with 5/20. the Tweezey. black sheep of fort lewis. who you with. i see you drive around most days while on post. like today.

First, I'd reccomend getting your AA Degree first because its the cheapest route and will give you time to see what strengths/weaknesses you have.
Secondly, for math you'll need to get through Calculus II, Physics, and Statistics. At my husband's university where he works & teaches, one also has to take Project Management course work as well as general education (English, Speech, Science, Social Science) classes.
If you think that EET sounds interesting, just really pay attention to the first few intro classes. If you can do well in those you should be alright. If you want a job industry that is on the "cutting edge" per se, maybe look into Biomedical Engineering because there are so few people with degrees in that discipline. I know the head of a local hospital medical imaging department and she swears that there is never enough people to fill the positions they have (biomedical engineering is developing things such as xrays, ct scans, mri machines, medical scanning systems, medical databases, etc). And with the new HIPPA regulations people are making boatloads of money trying to digitize and standardize business processes and imaging archiving.
If you don't think that EET sounds interesting, I also think that you'd do well in Network and Communication Technologies from the sounds of things. That is less on the engineering and more on the operating systems, telephony, server/client interaction, LANs, WANs, etc. (this is what my hubby does and maybe he can speak to it more).
I think as long as you make sure that its the right fit for you all will work out in the end!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!

Racinkid13 09-28-2006, 05:22 PM Yay for new jobs! Cingular Wireless Cell Tower Helpdesk in Redmond.
I use to build your cell sites, well and T-Moble, sprint, I have got to say out of all the carriers out there Cingular was the pickest when it came to their sites
Try turning up the DS1's running to those sites.....talk about picky!
MoScion 09-28-2006, 07:05 PM The DS3's I ordered are a pain.
kkawana 09-28-2006, 07:15 PM ^^ nope he cant... in fact.. either of us may not have a job soon....&*^&*()^&*()^*()&*(&*%^&*#*(%$&*()@#&$ share holdering *(&^()*^&*()^*(&*()^&*()%&*%&*(&*( 30+years wont retire *(&^)&*(%^)&(&#()*$&*()#&$_*## jerks....
BuddasTC 09-28-2006, 07:16 PM Nothing, Im unemployed.....no anyone thats hiring?
Macster 09-28-2006, 07:32 PM T-moble wasnt pickey at all the PM Project Managers are really cool. The Cingular guys really never showed up which was nice because you didn't have them looking over you shoulder.
So when you say help desk do you mean the Switch
well, it's quite dry from the description. A tech will call me up and ask a few questions regarding the tower then will shut the down tower to do whatever needs to be done. Then will call me back up and power it up again... i'll let everyone know for sure come monday night.

No need to involve wages. The last thing you want is for people to start comparing their epenises.

Im young and i seems like dealerships seem to forget about the younger market. If we were at shows we would get people noticing us.
