Default Question about the Valor (dealer) Exhaust tip...

So I had a 3A tip on and after a couple days driving, it keeps coming loose. I'm wondering if the 3 clamp tripod setup is one of the reasons. I'm wondering if the Valor one from Scion dealers is any better as far as how it attaches. Something that might hold the sucker on there a little tighter without coming loose.

AFter my wife drove home from work today, I could basically just pull it off as it was tilted sideways and no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to stay tight. Even after trying new screws.

So does anyone have the Valor tip you can get from Scion that knows how well it holds or how it holds compared to the 3A tip from Auto Zone?

Here's a pic of how the 3A tip holds...

You can see the 3 clamps inside the tip that hold the factory pipe. One of the problems I think is that the foctory pipe is oval and these things look like they would best fit a round pipe...

Any thoughts? thanks.

Have a local muffler shop weld it on.

That would seem like more work than it's worth, and probably more $$ too. I'd guess they would have to put some kind of bracket or wahtever between the two since the other tip is so much larger...

Wouldn't that entail about as much labor cost as basically just replacing the whole thing, muffler/exhaust/tip...

Here is something I have noticed,

if you look at the stock muffler, if your wearing one, it is oval in shape. Making that 3 prong clamp hard to get on right.

If you measure the widest part of the oval and get a small piece of exhaust pipe to fit over that. Tack that on, muffler repair putty works great. Then put your 3 prong tip onto that and tighten it down( you'll be putting the clamps around a round piece instead of trying to fit it over an oval.

Or just buy an axel back that has the tip you like already on it.

So does anyone know how the Valor one goes on? I would hope that since it's custom made for Scion, that they took into account the factory pipe shape and made the best solution to fit it...which wouldn't be these three claps...

The other issuse is the height of the car.

I put Tanabe springs on it, which lowered it...and then after the eDead that made it heavier and it sits a bit lower on top of that...

So I'm still thinking that even with a better attached tip, it will still scrape everytime my wife leaves her parking lot...I just hope it can stay in place if it's attached better.

Too late to put the original back on cuz I tore it up taking it off...

Damnit!

Maybe i need those hydraulic things so she can raise the car higher when she leaves the parking lot LOL!

Hmm...mine seems to stay all right.

The reason they use three clamps is so it will fit irregular pipes. Kind of like a three legged stool will always sit solid on the floor.

Perhaps you dented the tailpipe and is causing problems? Mine is tightened fairly tight, but not gorilla tight. Make sure that the legs of the clamp pieces are straight. If the sides are bent out/in ward, then the clamp cannot exert pressure in a straight line.

Hope that makes sense, if the legs of the clamp are bent in or out, tightening more only bends it in/out worse. The legs straight in line will put force inline with the leg and can clamp pretty hard.

My money is on the legs being bent, especially since you said it scraped and twisted on the driveway!

Ya I checked that as best I could with no luck.

Anyways, I ordered the Valor one from Scion and I'll just have the dealer put it on this weekend. Then if it comes loose, I'll moan to them about it and make them fix it.

If worse comes to worse, I'll just leave it off and go tipless I suppose.

My wife's parking lot really sucks cuz there's no way to get out without scraping, no matter how slow and easy you go. Sucks and nothing I can do about it.
