Has anybody try cleaning their dash yet? This material is so much different from anything I've seen on any car before, that I'm afraid of using just anything. I recall someone posting something about the Armer All being bad for the dash. Is this true? and if so is it just the one that leaves your dash shinny or the one that just cleans it without leaving it shinny?or both? I want to use the one that cleans only(no shinny left over). Thanks.

From my one past experience with armor all (only used it once), it left my interior all shiny and oily looking. If you miss a spot with it, you'll see it, which means you'd have to go over that spot again with something that you're not gonna want to use. From that point on, I just used a damp cloth to wipe up any dust and clean the surface. I'd then go over it again with a dry cloth to soak up any excess moisture that might have been left, as to not ruin the dash or leave spots/streaks. I know there is probably something that you can use to clean the dash that won't leave it looking cheesy, but I'll let someone else name what they use.

if the tC dash is anything like the xB dash , I have found that swiffer dusters get the dust off rather well and then use a damp cloth to get off any spots you may have, and then I go over it again with the swiffer duster to remove anything left by the damp cloth.

Those always seem to work great...for interior and exterior...if you just have a little dust on your car. I have an exterior one...I should probably invest in an interior dash one also.

 stupid troll but anyway I use a damp cloth then a dry one to soak up the moisture like blue tc was saying. You can also use windex (yah I know) it works wonders, but stay away from the armor all it attracts alot of dust and over time can crack the dash if not used on a regular basis. There is some sort of chemical that reacts to the sun once you stop using the armor all that causes a slow detoriation.

Anyone use those Armorall wipes? When you guys say Armorall you mean the spray right? I really don't feel like going back to Costco to return those wipes :x

Sorry RussianTC, but the only difference between the wipes and the spray is the former streaks and the other splotches. Both are really pretty sh*tty.

What do people use for the interior glass? Also, if you respond please note whether you have tinted windows or not.

I have used Murphy's Oil Soap in the spray bottle and it works great. it gets the plastic clean but doesn't leave a film of any kind.

Yeah I've been meaning to clean my dash but I don't want it all oily and shiney like armor-all does. I will try that Macguiars stuff.

I use armoral's cleaning wipes ( not the protectant wipes) - they leave no residue and work great!

I use "Invisible Glass" made by Stoner. (Inside and out.)
The interior of my xB is 'box stock'. (Sorry for the pun.)
"Invisible Glass" works EXACTLY as advertised. This is the best window cleaner I have ever used.
I found it at Pep Boys. Advance Auto Parts carries it now, too.
Target. . . Wal-Mart - I dunno.

Stoner Invisible Glass does wonders. The only thing that I dont like about it is that it almost seems like you have to do back and "buff" it with a clean paper towel. The "buffing" is well worth it though. I also use the same on the outside and if you encounter waterspots (esp on tinted windows) Duragloss makes some great stuff called NuGlass. Its almost like a rubbing compound for windows.

Is it better if u wash ur car urself rather bring it to a hand car wash place? I mean economical which way is better than the other.

The best thing I've found is to use a vacuum with a brush attachment. It cleans the dash of any debris and doesn't leave a shine (which I think is tacky). It leaves it looking stock but clean.

Go to NAPA and look for some stuff in a can called OptiGloss. It's a cleaner/polisher and can be used on almost any surface. The only thing you dont want to use it on is something porus like wood or your tires. This stuff will leave no residue, has no teflon, silcone, or anything that will glare. If you use one of the OptiGloss microfiber towels you get better results.

I got some of that stuff today and used it. Works really good. My only suggestion is spray it onto a cloth and than wipe, don't spray it right on the dash or it makes ugly spots. I used an old shirt and sprayed the shirt and wiped away and it turned out great.

yeah, you dont want to spray directly on the dash.

When did Armoral become the enemy? I've used it since it came on the market, and there was nothing else like it. There has always been a difference of opinion regarding to shine or not to shine, but for the last few years Armoral is getting slammed for damaging plastic.

Our hot tub cover specifically says to use 303 protectant instead of Armoral. In all the negative things I've read online I have not once read anything supporting the idea that it is a bad product.

If anyone knows of any evidence supporting the theory that Armoral is harmful I'd really like to hear it. I'd hate to think I was going through the work and expense of applying something that is not only failing to protect the plastic, but is actually damaging it.

I haven't put anything on the xB plastic yet. I'm worried about how that rough surface will turn out, and how the residue will be removed.

The oils in armour all was proven to cause premature damage to plastic and rubber years ago which is why I switched to Mequiars and love it. I also use invisble glass but I wouldnt recommend using paper towels. The ink and damping agents inside will cause smearing and streaking. I use a glass towel or if in a hurry a microfiber towel. Both will leave a streak free window with no elbow grease what so ever. But remember not to put those towels in the dryer with any dryer sheets as the agents in those sheets will transfer on to your towels and create the problem all over again. I let mine air dry. Actually, crumpled up newspaper is better than a paper towel. I also use a duster and a damp towel to clean my dash. And the texture will scratch off. I tested it by the mirror control slot and sure enough my nail left a nasty scratch mark so tell your girlfriends not to put their shoes on the dash!!

Rice Kake, Do you have any idea who did the Armoral testing. As I mentioned in my previous post, I keep hearing about this teest but have yet to see any evidence that it is true. "Who" did, and paid for the testing would also be of interest to me.

I've done a couple of Web searches but all I've found are references to "tests" and people's opinions, no link to a scientific test though!

Let me see if I can find it..its been a few years bro. Ive been looking into some products from Mothers that has like different products for our different types of plastic(soft rubber, hard and soft plastic) as each one actually requires a differnt type of product.

sgf, I looked as well and I cant find any real tests so I would assume that its all a bunch of wives tales, but I called a buddy of mine who was a detailer for 20 years and he just gave me an interesting ear full I will share that does make sense. To me its more of a product awareness more than anything else.
For those who dont know, our big enemy is uv and the ozone. These guys attack the long hydrocarbon chains on our rubber and breaking the bonds making them shorter which makes them less elastic resulting in tire rot. Our tires arent blue or green for a reason. Tire guys add black carbon to basically absorb the uv rays, which however turns white/gray as it absorbs the uv and dissipates it as heat. Hence, the old gray look on our aged cars rubber parts. They also add a wax based protectant in the rubber to help protect it from the ozone. As the tire rolls, more wax is pushed to the surface to aid in protection. This is called blooming. So the key was to keep our parts hydrated for protection. Enter silicone based products. They can enter our rubber and vinyl and not evaporate. Hell, they even added petroleum distillates as a cleaning agent too. Woo-hoo!! However, the silicone oil was actually increasing the uv penetration like a magnifying glass and the petroleum distillates was later deemed an enemy to rubber and vinyl. OOPS!! The problem for guys like armour all was trying to figure out a way to add some type of uv protection(which is difficult for silicone) to the product. The silicone oils were now dissolving the essential oils in the vinyl increasing the release of the raw vinyl called off-gassing which may leave that nasty haze you cant get off your windshield. But since none of this has actually been in a lab, I guess we should just be concious shoppers if we want our rides to last. Look for water based products minus any petroleum distillates and if you notice, armour all has much uv protection now guys!! Im personally a meguiars fan. Hope this helps.
