View Full Version : Friend I know has a XA now
lj973gm 09-27-2006, 06:23 AM Just wondering what most of you on here push your XA to on the hwy. He stated it starts to whine once you get above 70mph.
I have a tc but wish I had the mpg the xb/xa gets.
I barely even see any xa's in my area driving let alone the dealers.
Psyco565 09-27-2006, 06:39 AM I've pushed mine all the way up to 100mph and well I must say the whine goes away
But yea... the thing is built for about 60-65mph for best fuel milage and least noise.
Cmtbears34 09-27-2006, 02:33 PM I commute 50 miles to and from work every day...almost all of it on the highway...
I am usually in rush hour-like traffic so I can go flow of traffic in the fast lane at about 75-80mph...
My xA travels anywhere from 60-85mph on the highway just fine...I don't notice too much noise at all actually...but maybe that is because I have never actually had a quiet car to compare it to :D
Cmtbears34 09-27-2006, 02:34 PM though I should mention that I have an automatic and my RPMs are usually at 3000-3500....so it is different than a manual
IllNist 09-27-2006, 03:29 PM usualy on the way to shows we are running late.... so we are a poppin 80-100 the entire drive. oddly, its the tcs in our crew who have a hard time staying up with our 2 xAs
oldmanatee 09-27-2006, 07:04 PM I have had mine up to the century mark....solid as a rock. The mileage suffered a bit, however.
I try to stay below 80 in everyday driving, that lets more people see me.
markfaz 09-27-2006, 08:01 PM I typically drive it between 70-80, but we have had it up to 98 on the way to a bike race when we were late once. It's pretty funny looking at people's faces as you scream past them with two bikes on top of the car!! :) Wasn't really hearing any whining from the car at the time...
george_da_2nd 09-27-2006, 08:24 PM that whine you here is the hampester under the hood begging for a break :rolling:
oldmanatee 09-27-2006, 08:29 PM If you want more power, put a gerbil under the hood and a Richard Gere movie in the DVD player.......
PupSocket 09-27-2006, 09:53 PM Scion incorporates standard equipment to take care of the whine. It's located in the center of the dash just below the instrument pod. ;-)
seXAboy31 09-27-2006, 09:57 PM pushed mine to 105mph about today lol but usualy do about 60 mph.
i hear no whine just clear and crisp thoughts and the urge to get home
Persocon 09-28-2006, 04:38 AM I do 55mph to 60mph following behind 18 wheeler container trucks.
41.8 mpg highway only have 1020 miles on odometer
Whining as in engine reving at 3500 rpm? I know in manual transmissions, 5th gear rpm markings on the Tach (divided into 10 marks per one thousand rpm) matches the miles per hour markings on the speedometer.
example
60mph at 3000rpm
70mph at 3500rpm
80mph at 4000rpm
So are we talking about high reving whining or what
george_da_2nd 09-28-2006, 05:06 AM its proably jsut gear noise dont worry abou tit mine dose it too around 3 to 4 grand no biggie
sunnyflorida 09-28-2006, 03:02 PM i hit 100. solid steering and handling. no whining, but that may be because the stereo was blasting on the way to the hardrock casino the other day! it was late and i was in a rush to go all in
sevenstring 09-28-2006, 03:08 PM fastest i drove so far was about 90mph. the car handles very well. very smooth ride.
george_da_2nd 09-28-2006, 04:02 PM i personally ihnk the stearing is way to light.... anyway to heavy it up a bit???
oldmanatee 09-28-2006, 04:04 PM let the air out of your front tires?
uber-xA-RS2 09-29-2006, 05:39 AM I have had my RS2 all the way up to the fuel cutout, 110MPH. Let me tell you driving a car this small and light at that speed is some scary shiznit. :nails:
Needless to say, there was no gear whine as the sound of my Intake and exhaust were drowning out the radio at that point, not to mention the wind noise.
Now under normal driving conditions, the transmission in my car does have a light gear whine at 50-60 MPH. I think this has to do with the way the gears are cut for fifth gear as I also had this same sound ( only louder ) in my 5 speed Focus.
sunnyflorida 09-29-2006, 03:21 PM so is the max on a reg xa 110? or lower... i'd like to see if someone hit 120
uber-xA-RS2 09-29-2006, 03:24 PM The ECU shuts the fuel pump off at 110, so that is the max unless you can find a way to tune the ECU and shut off the Speed Governor.

41.8 mpg??? A little "Georgia Overdrive??" Try taking it out of neutral coming off the Contential Divide!

I can be happy with a buck ten.....
