Are you ready? Good!
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/1.JPG
Get all your parts together and bring them outside.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/2.JPG
Locate your shifter cables (Under air box) Notice the pin and washer on top.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/3.JPG
Remove pin and washer then remove the bushing using HAND force only!
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/4.JPG
Old junk on top New hotness on bottom, Looks a lot better doesn’t it :)
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/5.JPG
Now with your shifter linkage empty.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/6.JPG
Place the solid metal bushing in place. Place the bushing so the groove for the "e" clip is facing up.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/7.JPG
Use "e" clip to secure.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/8.JPG
Then top it off with the pin. Pat yourself on the back because you are done with that part!
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/9.JPG
It’s time to get to your shifter base.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/tcover/4.JPG
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/tcover/5.JPG
Pop off your shifters trim
Next Step is Optional:
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/tcover/9.JPG
Remove the two screws at the top that connects the center console to the dash. Then remove the two 10mm bolts hidden under the carpet in the center console armrest. Don't forget to unplug the cig lighter. You can now remove the center console for more room to work.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/10.JPG
Remove the (4) 12mm bolts
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/11.JPG
Bolts removed
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/12.JPG
Then remove the metal stopper from the rubber bushing.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/13.JPG
Remove the rubber bushing using hand force only.
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/14.JPG
Grab your metal bushings;
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/15.JPG
Install the bottom bushing first
http://www.scionlife.com/tech/images/corsport_bushings_tc/16.JPG
Then install the top bushing, replace bolts and tighten up. Your good to go.
Review:
The products quality is good I’m told there will be an option for red or blue anodized pieces in the future. The install was easy and pretty straightforward. The only problem was that there were no instructions included. I’m told there will be a set made and sent out with future kits. Upon finishing I noticed my shifter felt stiffer, it was a bit harder to get into gear but felt nice and tight. I personally think I will like it a lot. Unfortunately (as some of you may know) my car is not drivable right now, so I was unable to give it a good test drive. I will continue this review once the car is back on its feet.
Big Thanks to Tai from www.corsportusa.com for help with this review
CorSport 09-27-2006, 11:26 PM Thanks for the incredible review, we truly appreciate it over here at CorSport! ;)
Anyway, so everyone knows the base bushings are on backorder until early to mid october.
Have no fear though, the cable bushings are the better of the two mods (IMO) and still available!

CorSport 11-20-2006, 03:20 PM What is the purpose of the base bushings...How do that actually enhance shifting?
Makes the shifter base more sturdy by removing the play in the rubber bushings.
Spect2K3 12-03-2006, 02:54 AM any reviews of the shifter base bushings for those who have em in? (kaeon was saying his car isn't driveable)
The picture shows 8 shifter base bushings...why do we need 8?
CorSport 12-03-2006, 04:41 AM 4 corners -- 1 top and 1 bottom per corner = 8 bushings for the base.
Spect2K3 12-03-2006, 05:03 AM Ah, I didn't realize that they were on the front as well, but makes sense...duh! Thanks
CorSport 12-19-2006, 02:34 PM New hard anodized Gunmetal Aluminum bushings in stock and ready for shipping. (still have a few brass ones for those that may want them gold) -- put in notes when you order which you want.

Spect2K3 01-07-2007, 05:57 AM Installed the shifter base bushings today from corsport. Great customer service and quality products. I find the cable bushings to be much more effective than the base bushings. I don't feel a big difference with the base bushings like I did with the cable bushings, but nevertheless, everything feels nice and tight. For the price, you cant go wrong. Thanks corsport!

jotao 02-06-2007, 06:19 PM I have had this mod installed in my tc for over 3 months, and 15K miles driving with both, and this has been a great mod  . I did it with my brother in like 45 minutes for both the base bushings and the cable bushings (easy to do). It gives a very nice, solid and nothchy feel to the shifter and highly recommend the mod. Hell for $60 bucks you cant beat the price on the mod. Great quality product and no problems at all.

Will be ordering the SS clutch line soon, bump for a great company!
nauticac 03-23-2007, 11:10 PM Update: Just installed and took the car for a spin. The first thing I noticed was a more "positive engagement" Once it went into the gear the shifter just stuck there...it felt really nice. Firm and smooth. Highly recommended product for only $30 shipped.
Quick question: I dropped one of the new cotter pins into the abyss of the engine so I just put one of the stock cotter pins back on...there won't be any problems will there?

CorSport 07-15-2007, 07:48 PM excuse the dumb question...but the bushings raise the cage height right?

It raises the height of neither (at least not anything significant, maybe a millimeter or two max).

get a magnetic retractable pick up tool. and in the future.. tape the holes before working on it. i dropped a screw in there too once.
Deathwish238 08-14-2007, 09:09 PM excuse the dumb question...but the bushings raise the cage height right?
Does that mean it also raises the height of the shfiter?Doc Isotope's bushings raise it about half an inch. It makes it a bit easier to shift. If you haven't already gotten a short shifter...you can compensate for the half inch raise by getting a shorter shifter
tekstyle 08-14-2007, 09:14 PM just placed an order!!
tekstyle 09-23-2007, 09:19 PM those Corsports eclips are a pain in the ___ to install. i had to go down there from an awkward angle with a water pump plier to get it over the bushing. a normal straight plier didn't work because the firewall was in the way of the handle. just my 2 cent. why didn't you guys just made it the same height as the stock bushing so we can just slip the stock washer back on with a new pin?
Ace83 09-23-2007, 09:58 PM those Corsports eclips are a pain in the butt to install. i had to go down there from an awkward angle with a water pump plier to get it over the bushing. a normal straight plier didn't work because the firewall was in the way of the handle. just my 2 cent. why didn't you guys just made it the same height as the stock bushing so we can just slip the stock washer back on with a new pin?
Are talking bout the cable bushing in the engine bay? The pin can be removed by hand, no need for pliers. I thought you dont need to put back the stock washer with the corsport bushings? Washers was used in the stock i believe coz the stock bushings are made up of rubber so to prevent uneven sinking when pressure is applied. Since the corsport bushing is solid, no need to put the oem washer back so they raise the height a lil bit.. thats just my opinion but i could be wrong.
tekstyle 09-23-2007, 10:07 PM i was referring to the E-clips. the 2 clips that clamps into the groove around the bushing on top of it. those things are really tough and you can't put them on by hand. the pins are easy. i just thought using the washer would be been a lot simpler only if the bushing were shorter.
i already got these things installed and i love them, but i just wanted to give my opinion on the installation process which looked easier than it really is. mainly, due to an unexpected amount of elbow grease I had to use in excess.
Ace83 09-23-2007, 10:17 PM lol first install is always the toughest, pretty sure the next time you do it woud be very easy. Its the figuring out the easiest way thats the toughest.
trdscion 09-23-2007, 11:39 PM CorSport or NST? NST are cheaper, stainless steel, CorSport brass, seems like stainless steel would be better? Any suggestions/opinons?
Ace83 09-23-2007, 11:47 PM Dr. Isotope is cheaper its delrin, but I dont think it would matter, all of them are solid which would give you some nice crisp shifts.. So you cant go wrong with any of them but just a mattr of choice
tekstyle 09-23-2007, 11:53 PM lol first install is always the toughest, pretty sure the next time you do it woud be very easy. Its the figuring out the easiest way thats the toughest.
yea. if i ever have to do it again next time, i would go straight to the water pump plier and a lot of elbow grease and be done with it in 15 minutes instead of the original 45 min.
trdscion:
corsports if u want to install it with tools u probably have lying around already. not everyone has a snap ring plier.
NST if you want an easier install. also easier to move them at a later date. the corsport requires prying off the E-clip if you ever want to remove them which can damage the white plastic cable endlinks.
as for brass or stainless steel, i don't think it really matters. i think brass is more inert to oxidization and rusting, but i can be wrong. i suck at chemistry.
trdscion 09-23-2007, 11:58 PM that's what I figured. Think I'll go with the NST ones, they don't have that massive E-clip either that people say was hard to put on (even though it looks like a good smack with a hammer would do the job), stainless steel looks nice and lasts. Thanks.

yea a good smack with a hammer will do, but imagine smacking with the bushing on the endlinks... it's a pretty tight fit in there lol.

Brass does not rust; however, it does tarnish. The tarnishing (if it should occur) will not affect the usage in any way. If the stainless steel is not formulated correctly (because they are many different "formulas" of the iron-carbon alloy and chromium) it will rust. Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, not corrosion proof.
CorSport 12-07-2007, 04:53 PM Ours are not brass, the original ones we sold years ago were, they are made by us now and use a HARD anodized aluminum made to stand up to the usage.

You don't have to grease them -- but it does help with the install, really your call.
Tai
CSOCSO 02-27-2009, 07:18 PM i just installed it without any grease.
it took me like 2 hours.
jack up the car.. take off the wheel, inner fender, cai... ( ok i cleaned the throttle body too) to take off the original pin i had to use a plier. than the cable bushing witch facing backwards ( towards the firewall) was pain in the ___.
it was really hard just to pull down the cable from the bolt. or whatever is that. then it was pain in the ___ to put it back on it. but i realized if i ask my firend to move the shiftknob back and forth slowly and stop at one point i could put the cable on with the bushing on the bolt.
to install the e clips wasnt that hard with a plier.
about the shift feel.... well... i dont feel too much different.its definiatly not a WOW upgrade. its alright.
to be honest it feels like that something is not greased up. so its not that soft as before. but veeery little change compared to the old bushing.
maybe some of u guys had really bad bushing. idk, i got 05 tc
CorSport 02-27-2009, 07:23 PM Most people notice the difference right away as night and day -- oem is soft and friendly and easily wiggled around -- with the bushings you will have a much tighter and firmer shift and more exact engagement via less slop.

Dunno. Maybr so there will be less travel from steering wheel to shifter. Ir so the bottom of your new shift rod is at the same angulation with the cable for smoother shifts since the shorter throw usually is longer below the ball.
Cabana 10-19-2009, 05:45 AM This might be totally obvious to most people, but I'm pretty new with working on cars and it took me a little while to figure out where the two bushings were located so I made these images. Hopefully they will save someone a few minutes. I removed the top of the stock intake and swung the bottom out of the way, then got this:
