Toyota buying back 05 Scions?
Did anybody else get this letter from their local dealers? What is it about? Did Toyota realize something bad and need to buy the 05s back from us?
When the Scions are sold as used cars, they do not have to follow the "pure Pricing" and used Scions have actually sold for more than new ones.
My guess is that they want to give you less for your car, then sell it for a profit, at the same time, talking you into a new Toyota where they could bargain with you, again, making them more money.

it doesnt make sense though why someone would pay more for a used scion than buying a new one for less. if they do just offer me $10K, then it aint gonna happen. my tc is already paid for.

Guys relax. I bet the letter said that due to high demand for 2005 Scions the dealer would be paying top dollar for your car on a certain date. If you owned an Echo the letter would say they needed Echos. If you owned a Corolla---well you get the drift. It is a marketing ploy to get you to buy a new car.
Yeah when I was looking for used scions, all the tCs cost more than new ones. Properly some pure price issues. In one post I read a reply where a guy trade in his car for 15k.
I hope no one falls in toyota's attempt to rip people off. Clearly the used scion worth alot more.

Yeah, hopefully the resale continues to stay high. Pretty unique for a car that is under 20k...usually. Would be an interesting event to see Scion surpass Honda on resale value. ;-)
It's not an attempt to "rip people off". it's a way to get customers in the door. They sell cars, you know. If they can get you to think about trading your car in, that's a new car they can sell to you. And if they can get you to come in thinking you're going ot get a good price on your trade-in, instead of thinking you're going to get ripped, you'll be more likely to buy.
It has nothing to do with your Scion.
Just so you know, our local dealer is in "HIGH DEMAND" for my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan. Just got a letter last week... You KNOW peeps are dying to find those!!?!!

When I purchased my new 06 xB there was a similarly equipped used 05 xB on the lot for 2k more than mine. My friend sells cars there, and he said he could knock off a couple grand only because he was my friend. We took a look at buying both, and they would have been pretty much the exact same cost to me.
There is one fundamental difference. When you buy a used Scion on the lot, it comes with a extended warranty. This is how the lot justifies someone paying more for a used car than for the new car. The problem is, unless you intend on keeping the car for a long time, you'll probably not need it. Its just pure profit for the dealership.

You don't think they PAID more than retail for the car do you?
errr. this is similar to my story when i bought my car.. I went to long toyota/lexus/scion, and some indian guy tried to sell me a used tc with a trd exhaust, lip kit, and tints, for 19k.. Well, i didn't buy that car and bought a new one for 19.5 out the door with a lojack system..
