well it started out taking a road trip to padre island in tx and on the way home we decided to stop by schlitterbaun(waterpark) which was fun and i thought i had the xb key tightly secured in the wallet in the velcro pocket when bam the 1st ride of the day it falls out and with my luck the ride empties into a river. so i stick around all day ride a few rides and hang out till 9. oh yeah i live in dallas (5 hours away) so i was kinda screwed well teh divers check the rides no luck. i call a locksmith "best in town" and hes gone for 5 days so i get ahold of another one and he is like umm do you have ne good friends in dallas..... i just kinda stare at him and then he says he will try to make a key and he tells me theres a code on the inside of the door panel hopefully that he can get for the key and tells me that he will most likely break it cuz it is the 1st time he has or heard of a locksmith messing with a scion i was like wait i have this (the little metal plate that comes on the key chain for the key) and he is like we dont have to tear your car apart and thank god he is able to make a $60 key for the scion.

lesson here is dont lose the scion key and if you do....have the plate thing.

Why are you taking your keys in the water to begin with?? I try to keep my keys as far away from water as possible. And I've never seen my metal plate thing.

What has worked for me in the past is finding a cheap key ring, the kind that only makes a loop and a half and is made of thin wire. Take a spare and put it on the keyring and fasten it behind the license plate using one of the screws for the plate. That way it's out of sight, nobody will know it's there. And when you need it, all you have to do is pull it off. Since it's a cheap keyring it should pull apart easily.
