Hmmmm. I just finished doing the stockers on my SSM in Duplicolor Graphite (Gunmetal?). Not really sure I'm liking them, but at least it's different than the black everyone else is doing. I used 4 coats Wheel Coating and 2 costs Clear (2 cans paint, 1 can clear). I'm waiting for my camera's batteries to charge so I'll post pics tomorrow. Good thing is that if you don't like the color, or just like to change frequently, the materials only cost less than $20 and you just need a free day, a little bit of patience and elbow grease, and you're done.

The results, color aside, look great and I don't think it's really possible to mess it up. Just clean and sand thoroughly, use multiple thin coats, and the finish will come out nice and smooth. (I did screw up my first wheel by overdoing the first coat, resulting in some runs ). Obviously, I can't speak for durability just yet.

It's a nice, cheap, easy DIY that's easily noticeable, so go for it if you're thinking about it!

Hope this helps. And no comments on my crappy photography skills please.

Here are my wheels. I powder coated them bronze.

I would consider powder coating because of the durability factor. True it costs more than spray-bombing them but if you coat them in the end you wind up with pretty much a factory finish. Although I do like the ones posted above that were spray painted gunmetal, it looks like he did a nice job on them. I am just kinda sketchy on how well the finish will hold up. It ended up costing me about $80 per wheel to coat. Just my two cents.....

It ended up costing about $70-80 per wheel if I remember correctly. When I got mine coated it took the guy about 2 or 3 days to finish them because he was kinda busy with other projects.

Koo, I heard if you use the Duplicolor paint and the clear coat they have it works well also. I thought about the powder coat but if I can get away with something cheaper I will.

Saving some cash-flow is always a good thing, but this is one area I wouldn't skimp in. If you are planning on changing up the color alot then spray paint is the way to go, but durability is definately gonna be a factor. Good luck with whatever option you go with man! Be sure to post some pics of the finished product.

Well here is a photoshop side-by-side of what I want to do to my rims. The top image is stock and the bottom one *front wheel only* is the color I want. I lost the color curve numbers so I didn't do the back one. I like em dark.

I was thinking about gunmetal but I think Im going to go with black. I want to use the duplicolor wheel paint they make but I can only find one color at all the orielys out here. So I might break down and just powder coat.

they look really good man! I am thinking of recoating my wheels the WRX gold. Bronze and gold look soo good on white! Nice job on the spray-bomb though, they look like they really turned out.
