View Full Version : Windshield Wiper Recommendations
Spect2K3 10-06-2006, 09:29 PM Not that its all that necessary or important to get a rave review on a particular brand of windshield wipers, but I figure if the recommendation is there, why not use it?
So, does anybody have any recommendations for replacement windshield wiper blades? I believe the drivers side is size 26 and the pass size is 16, but there are lots of brands out there, which is best from experience?
Spect2K3 10-06-2006, 11:50 PM If anybody knows the relevance to putting a spoiler on a windshield wiper when passing through this thread, let me know!!
There are some examples here at tireracks site:

KINGxOFxSKA 10-07-2006, 12:07 AM Bosch ICON's are very nice. Will cost you some but they're worth it.
bBonVolks 10-07-2006, 06:26 PM They are still stock on my xB but when i had my eclipse i used the Rain-X brand. I never had a problem with them.
snowbuddytC 10-07-2006, 06:34 PM whats the diff between all these wipers?

i think that "spoiler" is used to push the wind over the wiper to help the wiper have good contact with the windshield at higher speeds
Spect2K3 10-08-2006, 04:07 AM Yea, I think you're right...it helps hold down the wiper - it doesn't really seem all that necessary to me.
Does anybody else have a recommendation for what is a good windshield wiper?
I would have to say that the Valeo's and the PIAA's are pretty good if they cost that much, but who knows...any recommendations?

The difference isn't drastic unless you pick up a really crappy pair of wipers. Until you have, you have no idea how bad they can actually be. I was once on a road trip in my moms car and it started to rain heavily. I put on the wipers and it was actually worse than having them off. I drove very slowly for a while until I got to a gas station off the highway and replaced them with cheap little POS. Even those were better than what she had on there. I asked her later when she replaced them, she said "just recently"!
The stock wipers on the tC aren't bad - I just want to hear if anybody has some recommendation as to something that they KNOW is good...Thanks!!!
SLOtC 10-08-2006, 04:32 AM use rain-x aswell... most of the time in the rain i dont need to use my wipers because i use rain-x, the water slides right off
paul34 10-08-2006, 04:34 AM I suppose that if you're happy with OEM performance you could also just get the OEM replacement parts?
I see these "Rain-X" wipers in the store... anyone know what that's all about?
Spect2K3 10-08-2006, 04:35 AM is this the stuff that you're refering to?

Yea, the OEM parts are bad, but they aren't particularly good for wintery weather. It may be a jump in price, but I have heard good things about the valeo ultimate style of windshield wipers

These are supposed to be great in wintery weather b/c no snow/ice can get in, and we're midway through october....
SLOtC 10-08-2006, 04:40 AM no thats just the auto glass cleaner what you want is the glass treatment. you can also get it in a spray bottle. i use the spray bottle its easier to get a even application

paul34 10-08-2006, 04:45 AM no no, not the glass treatment, I have a bottle of that stuff. I'm talking about actual wipers, as in, it has the brand name of "rain-x" on them... I believe they are co-branded, though. They're on the same rack with the Boschs and generic ones and such.
Spect2K3 10-08-2006, 04:49 AM Awesome, i am going to pick up one of those bottles tomorrow - thanks for the tip...I just hope it works well in sync with the wipers...great reviews though!
SLOtC 10-08-2006, 04:51 AM yea i know that... but what i am saying is that you should also use "rain-x treatment aswell" for wipers i use Bosch they work great... i had a set of rain-x wipers and i didnt like them very much

BTW, if you do use wipers in conjunction with rain-x, you run the risk of them streaking or otherwise messing up the rain-x. A few times is usually not a problem, but if you apply it correctly, you should be able to avoid using your wipers as the rain-x will do most of the work.
Some people swear by Aquapel, which is supposed to be better than Rain-X, but it isn't available (AFAIK) in any local stores. You have to order it online and its also more expensive than Rain-X, although it does last longer.
I personally think the OEM wipers work perfectly fine, it's starting to leave some streaks, but I think that might be due to the spray on wax I used on the windshield...
krdshrk 10-09-2006, 12:37 AM I use the OEM wiper inserts.

A lot of manuf. are switching to the Velo blades as OEM equipment. I believe most Hondas and higher end lux cars ship with them.

I just wax my windshield... same effect.
paul34 10-09-2006, 08:14 PM I don't find normal wax to cause water to bead AND fly off as effectively as a dedicated glass wax, like Rain-X. It beads, but isn't "slippery" enough to make the water fly off that effectively.
Spect2K3 10-11-2006, 03:54 AM WeŽll i got that rain-x windshield stuff today, so i'll put it on tomorrow and try it out. As for the wipers, I found them for cheap, so I am going to try out the valeo wipers - i'll be sure to let ya know what I think of everything!
Spect2K3 10-17-2006, 09:53 PM So I tried the rain-x stuff. Its interesting. At higher speeds, like 50 and up, it is great. But when you are driving slower, like in traffic, there is not enough wind to blow the water off. It definitely helps, but not a substitute for wipers unfortunately.
The Valeo's are on sale at TireRack, buy one get one free!
Normally $19.99 each, now $19.99 for 2.
Spect2K3 11-01-2006, 12:20 AM WOW! nice job 2_tC I wish I saw those before!
crabbyman 12-14-2006, 05:45 PM Ordered the BOGO Valeo's...never had nice blades for my cars. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Total for me after shipping was $27.
The deal for the Valeo's is good until the 31st of this month...so jump on it! :come:
crabbyman 01-05-2007, 07:32 PM I got them..the wipers work nice. I still get one area on the passenger side at the bottom where the wiper skips over. I think it is the spring strength that makes it skip over that area.
Look very clean on the car! We have not had too much freezing weather yet this year..so I cannot comment on that aspect of them.
menace549 01-05-2007, 08:28 PM OEM replacements. I've had my tC for 6 months, and drove 11k miles, with my fair share in the rain, and my OEMs are still 100%. Just my .02
Spect2K3 01-05-2007, 09:17 PM My drivers side valeo wiper doesn't seem to go as far left as the stock ones did. I find it annoying, but otherwise I love em. I wish there were a way to adjust the wiper so it could go a bit further!
nyr197 01-05-2007, 09:21 PM Bosch Ion's dominate.
