K, thurs night. . . driving with 2 other cars in my ride (2005 xA 5-spd, no real mods yet).
I pull up music blasting at a stop light next to a fairly new red civic coupe, with an aftermarket exhaust (probably the only mod, couldn't tell if she was auto or manual). It's a cute chick driving with her boyfriend sitting shotgun, hehehe they give a "wtf are you driving" stare, and they rev the engine hard. I do the same, and green light! I even had a bad launch. . . I didn't bother to give it a hard launch (I forgot that I don't have a V8 anymore). We pull neck and neck. I gain, then gain some more, by 45mpy, they are at my rear bumper. 60mph, I see their brake lights, and they see my middle finger! And who said 1.5L 108hp was too slow? Hello? If I can beat a Civic (not suped up to oblivion), then again, that would mean half the cars on the planet would be too slow. I love the xA. . . this never ceases to surprise a lot of unsuspecting people.

At midnight madness out here in Vegas, I love the stock honda's that go 17 and 18's, but what I like even more is the look on the owners face when they gets time card 17.89@ 73.56. Thay thought they could beat Shirley Mouldowney when thay pulled up to line.
I will go you one better, the Escalade and Navigator owner with 400 lbs of stereo equipment in a 5900 lb truck, sure they got 300+ horses but they way three tons and click off a high 18. So much for 30k being fast. Bill

I drove a rental Echo once for 3 weeks - it was a fun car, even with an auto I could chirp tires from dead stop - but in 5-speed with couple hundred in suspension and an intake it would be a good civic eater. I assume xA is pretty close. Good job, man :)

What's with the anti-Honda sentiment? Not to ____ anyone off, but you just stooped to their level. What makes you better. You bought a fun cheap car with a small engine and intend to mod it too. Sounds to me your in the same boat. I understand there are alot of crappy drivers/modders out there with bad attitudes and the wrong train of thought, but that's no reason to take it out on a car company. Honda makes great fun cars. Because some idiot thinks he god because he's behind the wheel is his problem. What about Toyota? They make good cars and I see alot of _______s driving them just as crazy. Do hate Toyota? No. Why do poeple have to hate so much on Honda. That's just as bad as the "wtf look" they gave you. Conpetitively speaking though, congrats on the take down.

I'm not flaming, but I can see the original point about "US vs. THEM" attitude. I checked your profile and couldn't determine if you have a Scion or not so forgive me, but once I got in the box I felt the same way. In a sea of ricers, my box is my sactuary, my slice of heaven. Out here, the "kids" (used loosely) are notoriously faster than my box. But I get more looks, more stares, and more questions than any honda/mazda/toyota/lexus/beemer/benzo/ferrari/lambo. I push a box, and am proud to claim Nor*Cal Scions - The UnAffiliated Cobras Chapter, and IMO, a kill is a kill.
Good job. Now, so far as any car out there that's willing to race me?? I'll meet you at the top of the hill, first one to the bottom in neutral wins a dollar.

It could be just me, but I always found it hard to be able to "see someones brake lights" when "they are at my rear bumper". But then again, I don't have eyes in the back of my head.

With an open stretch of road, it's real easy to keep track, just glancing in your mirrors. . . and at night brake lights are REAL easy to spot, since they light the whole car up, well practically. That's why if you see a cop and you mash the brake, it's a dead giveaway, and cops look for that too!
Personally I have nothing against Honda's. . . I had a similar post about a BMW too which went to hell but the original point is that Scion's are not slow, contrary to popular belief. Yes, compared to sports monster, it is VERY slow. But compared to average cars, my xA has performed beyond my expectations, at least I can say that about the 5-spd. I don't have a lot of experience with the autos. . .
BTW, I'm in the process of moving to Sacramento so I will not be able to respond for about 3 days.

HAHAHA he tried to do the ricer fly-by! Gotta love displacement man! I'm a huge import fan, but I have a humongous lump of respect for domestics, particular the older ones. They were the most innovative, most powerful, and best built cars of their era. And the way it looks, domestics are stepping up their competition. I look forward to some super high quality products in the near future. . . good kill man.

it seems to me that a lot of civic ricer will pick up fight with any car they pass by and eventually lose most of time. anyway, my kills tory is not in xA but in tC...not even anything great to mention about, normal highway, a loud ___ civic try to do a high speed pass by, but...i am not even trying since i am still in break in period, keep my rpm under 4k, he's not able to pass me in about 5 mile then he disappear from my mirror, and i never pass the 90 mark. man, those guys never learn.
i don't think i have anything against civic, i consider to get a civic too, but the price just too high for me. and my friend have a 93 civic i like it. but i really hate the civic ricers, those who has loud exhaust, full of window stickers, ugly body kit and always tailgate any car that in front of them.

A lot of people ask about this, but maybe I just have eagle vision or something. . .
it is NOT that hard if you know what to look for, especially with cars that have brake lights on the rear window, on the parcel shelf.
Try it at night and you will see what I mean. If you are on a level road, and especially if the other car and yours both don't have any tint (tint will make it harder to see), you can see the rear window glow up when they apply their brake. Especially at close distances of 1-2 car lengths, it's EASY. If you can't see it, you might need glasses or something. . .
. . . but I will admit, when you are racing, it's kinda idiotic to be looking at the car behind you, rather than paying attention to the road. But it's hard not to glance over every few seconds to see your progress.
Now if their brake light is on the lid of the bumper (a la tC) or on the roof, it is much much harder to see the glow.

Man the hostility!! A car is a car and if it is yours no matter what brand you're probably proud of it. As far as racing goes, you win some you loose some.
I bought my xA for the gas mileage because my other two vehicles gulp the gas. Thats probably due to my heavy foot! :D
I'm going to fix the xA up just like my other cars actually I'm buying another one! LOL
I'm giving the one I have now to my girl and I'm buying a black one. But I'm putting a Blitz supercharger in mine. Shhhhhhhh..don't tell her or she'll have my arse!! :D

nice kill.....but damn people, enough with the ignorance for other car companies. don't get me wrong, i see it a lot too. but, guess what? you just bought into the replacement for honda's in the ricer scene. until honda steps up to the plate, scion seems to have the new ricer market cornered. i just read an article, some company came out with a turbo for the new 1.7L civic, under 3 grand, and it puts 167 or so to the wheels, and if you upgrade to the bigger snail, it says 300 to the wheels. smoky burnouts...mmmmm. anyways, ignorant hating is rice :P

ancient thread!
Yeah I got nothing against civics. . . but I am against anything too extremely rice it's painful. . . you know what I mean.
But I like all cars, even Honda's. But all of you know that there are some bastard Civic owners who think their ebay exhaust makes them the fastest cars on the planet.
I never pic on Civics, but I'll fight back if somebody gives me a dirty look or picks on me. Childish yes, but last I check I got me twig n berries. . .
Btw, I've stomped many a civic. . . mostly in my old car. The day I learned not to pick on the little guy was when I picked on a very stock looking HB. Let's say he pulled on me HARD and I was already goin 135mph. Civic's can be VERY fast.

I got a funny story for all of you guys. I got off the highway today going to my friends house, and when you get off there is a lane on the right to pass everyone. Well i get in the lane, and the light in front me me happens to be red (normaly is green). I pull up next to an oldmobile with a 50-65 year old guy in it. The light turns green and i go quikly to get by him, and the old guy punched the gas and raced me to 70!!. I was keeping up the whole time. His stupid 6 didn't beat me. I was laughing really hard. It made my day.

wow... an unmodded xa beating up on a civic.... WTF? i thought the common enemy were domestics and the like... now its import against import?? on a totally different tho... i have a double kill story of my own... me killing an eclipse with my xa... and me killing my xa with that same eclipse... both were unmodded at the time and my bud and i constantly swapped between cars to really see who's car was faster... i never found that answer... because no matter what car i got in... i would beat him 10 for 10 everytime... sure... anyone can get behind the wheel of a 1000HP car... but only a few can drive it a 1/4 mile w/o hitting anything... oh... and i still think my xa was faster, tho he disagrees...

100% agreed. I don't drive a Civic, but usually ppls tempt me to race him/her (not the xA). Hmmm, wait...I did have an EG hatch before...was thinking to do SiR-II conversion and sleeper look, but totally killed by a domestic car running a red light.
Nonetheless, nice kill...but a bit off topic: street race sucks.

honestly...the only reason everyone seems to hate on civics is because they are a dime a dozen...i was going to purchase an 04 si but decided not to be like everyone else...i love my xa but you got to admit it lacks the power some of us are use to...but to be able to beat a civic with our 1.5 makes us happier drivers...____ i would be happy, but i wont be completely happy until i can pull at least 160hp out of my xa...butn thats just my 2 cents. congrats on the kill...

I've killed many Civics, Eclipse, Neons, PT Luzers and a ton of other small 4 bangers. Of couse this was in my wife's MPV Minivan. Those silly boys just think a minivan can be fast stock. :D It's fun to beat those guys at a light only to have my 5 year old wave to them as we pass by.
And as for displacement... my last car had a 1.3L engine in it and ran a 14.8 at Atco Raceway. And this was stock. It was an RX8. :D
