View Full Version : Best way to tell an xB owner I like their box?

Hi,
I am recently a member of the Scion family with my purchase of a tC. I see other Scion owners all the time (mostly xBs) and always wanna say hi and tell them I like their box (if I do). But, I feel like such a dork just going up to someone in a parking lot and saying "hi, that's a really nice box". What about waving or giving them a thumbs up if I am on the freeway (my windows are pretty dark so they might not be able to see but for conversation sake lets pretend they can see me)? Any etiquette suggestions? Just thought I'd get some input from some xB owners. Thanks, Jayme

wave, thumbs up or just talk to them in the parking lot

just make sure you do it casually

not jumping up and down or get pepper sprayed

The thumbs up thing works best but if your feelin spicy you could always roll down your window and tell them"I'm Rick James Bit@#!!!"

ha ha... or "I wish I had four thumbs so I could give those titties four thumbs down!" but I guess that wouldn't be very nice. Just kidding. Dave Chappelle rocks! -Jayme

An older gentleman pulled up, slowly, next to my box at a light - when I saw him eyeing the vehicle, I proudly said "I just got it" to which he replied "I like it!" On another day, someone was driving next to me in stop/go traffic, and yelled "that's a really cool car!!" Usually I have my windows up, so I must miss many other comments - but I catch many stares and second looks - and once saw 2 pedestrians stop, point to my car and talk, then turn around to watch me drive off.

It's all good!

Proper etiquette? Nice of you to ask - but often times it's the complimented, not the complimentee, that needs lessons in etiquette. So - if you're nice and express your admiration of someone's car - I say, let them react however they want. And if they scoff at your boldness, or try to make you feel like you're a dork - it's their loss. Just feel sorry for them, and walk away. But I'd be surprised if many new car owners are offended by your words.

I was driving my Scion through Washington DC last week. I was on Constitution Ave across from the IRS building stuck in traffic and a group of Japanese tourists walking down the sidewalk stoped and looked at my box and were making some kind of signs with their hands that looked like "BB". THat was really cool.

I havent had anyone come up and actually tell me they liked my box, but I do get alot of looks and smiles from people which is their way of saying they like my box. Well at least I hope thats what they are saying...

That happened to me outside my work in the parking lot. Three guys were surrounding the box and laughing. 'You laughing at my car?" I asked. "Yes", they replied :?

Most like it but a few hate it. What ever. They don't know what they are missing. :D :D :D

I am suprised how many come up to me to say how much they like the car. I have had a few people over 60 say that they want one. One guy over 70 tracked me down at a supermarket to find out more about it. He said that his wife would not stop talking about it after she saw one. Maybe we will have to start a senors section here

I'll never understand why people diss it so bad in public. I mean, you dont see me going up to a riced out civic and pointing and laughing at the big wing and the mismatched body kits for 10 minutes. It just makes me sad.

I have had complete strangers walk up to me and say "That is the ugliest car I've ever seen" My reply usually is "34 mpg" which is initially why I bought my box. However, I've since fallen in love with the uniqueness of the car. The negative responses are few and far between. I love all of the rubbernecking I get driving through town.

Whenever I see xB owners I usually honk the horn or flash my lights at them. Everytime all I get is a weird stare and never any response. xA owners get no love :(

Just be careful if it's a female Scion driver.

If you tell her you really like her box, she may get the wrong idea.

 :D

I've found most people's reponses positive. People have gone out of their way to come and look at it and ask questions. I've seen people stare and point. Most of them smile or seem to have a positive reaction.

Not a big deal one way or the other. I've only met a handful of people who actually thing it's ugly, but I never chose this car for how it looks, I love it now, but when I bought it I was a little uncertain about the looks.

What sold me what the price/value, the interior room/comfort, handling, fun-to-drive factor and the fact it was a Toyota.

The fact that it doesn't look like an amorphous psuedo-futuristic generic blob like 90% off the rest of the cars on the road was just a fringe benefit!

just yell, "SCION BROTHERHOOD, FO LIFE YO" run up to them and do the secret handshake. that should break the ice :P seriously though, i usually just beep my horn like a madman and give a thumbs up. people usually appreciate that.

you should.

I get alot of looks and compliements, and it really depends on who its from. When guys look at my car, they usually get at "what the ____ are you looking at.

When girls look at my car, they usually get a "how you doin"

I have suffered the worst xB descrimination out here in soCal. I was leaving my work one day to go to lunch and, written with chalk on my windshield, were the words "Car Sucks". That would have been bad enough, but there were dirty footprints and loogies all over the body of it. Not to mention a fist size dent next to my rear left door panel.
Moral of the story: Anything, with the exception of xB violence, will make me happy. Even if you say it's the worst vehicle alive, at least you noticed it 8)

Damn...

God help those sacks of crap if I caught them doing that to my car. They'd be picking up their teeth with broken fingers. WTF is wrong with people. Such disrespect....
