I have an aftermarket tach lying around, and thought of using it just for the shift light it has in it. I was wondering exactly where to tap for the tach signal. The tach has 4 wires,
Red, Black Green, and Yellow. I know where the red and black goes to, but where does the green and yellow go. and where is tha tach signal wire? Photos would help a LOT. Thanks in adavance guys, and yes I do go every week to the strip and yes I do need the Shift Light.

Tach- Black wire data link conn. under dash, pin 9 or the tach wire is also found at the ECM behind the glove box, top plug, pin 5.
and this is what? I don't get it. That's why I made this post, cause I couldn't understand this.[/quote]

soros151 do you know where your OBD2 scanner plug under the drivers side dash is? If you pop your head under the dash you will find a little black plug... Look for a black wire on it.
or
You can pull your glovebox out and behind it will expose the factrory ECU on the right hand side. On the very top plug is the RPM wire... see the link below and where it says "I" that is the RPM wire.
Okay, tried looking for either the black box, or the black wire, but no luck there, so I took some pics to see if someone can pinpoint the exact location or at least a nearby place where I could find that wire. So...
Here is an upside down pic of the ECU without removing the glovebox compartment.

and can someone plase tell WTF is this? :P

The white plug in the first pic, below the fuses is the OBD 2 plug... In the pic of the ECU it is the farthest plug away or all the way to the right in it.. refer to the diagram I posted above and look for pin labled as "I"..

Do I have to open the OBD2 plug?

There are 2 clips on either side of the plug..that you can push in and it will slide out of the metal bracket that holds it.. then look for the black wire, tap into it by some means and you should be good to go..

I finaly got it installed and it is soo nice. i just tryed all the different wires in the plug under the fues bot, and i found the one. now i can crank the music, and not have to forget to shift and over rev. But the light is sooo bright, i need to leave the cover on.

I don't have the TRD shift light either, but the tach wire listed in the TRD installation guide is the same tach wire used to attach any shift light. Can be used to attach any aftermarket shift gauge too. I used that install guide for my shift light which made it a simple job, no guessing or anything.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but just to make sure, ask at:

did anyone else order a shift light and its like 6" long and wont lay on the steering column without hitting the wheel when u turn....any other location ideas? I was thinking of mounting to right knee plastic thing, because its on an angle and i will still see the flashing light....

Based on wat ive read from the PDF intructions the tach wire can easily connected at the gauges instead of pulling out the OBD II connector and laying on ur back trying to solder when u can just take out one screw above the gauges and pop out the connector and tap into the PIN 26....please let me know if this sounds right, il try it anyway later today after work if i get no reply....with pics lol!

I have my shift light connected to the tach wire in the gauge cluster. Easy and works.

No way it took me under 5 minutes to install, check it out....i did a custom mounting which worked out great, just thought of it on the spot (im the first),i just took off the bracket that comes built in and ran the wires through the vent opening slot and made a tight fit so it didnt move around, so much easier because the wires only were 8 inches long so the connector was right next to it (no patch wires)http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/2387000-2387999/2387102_122_full.jpg
I have that same one, but it didn't work for me. Is it the adjustable one?
blitztc06

yes it is adjustable right in the back by 500rmp increments, just a dial in the back. $32 on ebay

how many wires did you have? because i know most have 5(3 regular, 2 closed loop), you have to cut the 2 looped ones for your 4 cylinder, and then 1 accessory(gauge cluster), 1 ground(bare metal), 1 tach wire(to gauge cluster)
