Would you call me stupid?
For trading my 05 STi for an 07 Scion tC?
The reasons I would be doing this is i'm paying almost 600 a month for the STi and would be paying a little over 300. Insurance would also be cheaper. I think its time to get out of the "power is all" cliche and get something more all around. The STi.. is very fast and handles great but thats about all its good for. The seats SUCK, the suspension while good for turning but, it blows for any kind of "comfy" ride.
While I would still want some power if I get a tC (supercharger) its not everything. I test drove and liked the tC a good bit, the shifting is smooth, steering is smooth, the ride is comfortable and the car has creature comforts.
I guess i'm just getting older and out of all the power is God mentality.
Let me know what you all think.

as soon as you decide to lower the 4x4 known as the tC, you're comfy ride goes away for the most part.
the tC will rattle a bit, so dont go into this thinking it's luxury car-like.

For the price, it's a great car with a lot of features and potential.... you know the difference, so it's not a bad choice at all.... it's all about dollars, and at least for what you comprimised performance wise to save on the payments...
It's no STI, but it's a great car for the price....

Other than the fact that you are losing some power, seems like a good trade. Even with my tein s techs, I think the ride is still fairly smooth. The sound system is great, and i dont know about the other guys, but so far i havent developed any of the infamous squeeks and rattles.
actully i agree with you in some aspects i have an xA and its lowered and it jars the hell out of you. i lowered it and did performance stuff, and loved it. but now im starting to want more of a refined ride that i can go anywehre and turn heads but in a good way not in a oh look is one of them tuner aholes. also the xA feels alot faster than the tC even though its the exact oppsite. the tC just feels more composed and refined than the xA and thats what im after.
I don't think anyone is taking into account what it would actually cost to get a TC seeming how he is thinking of this decision from a financial perspective.
STI's depreciate like nobody's business, I would guarantee noone would give you more than 25,000 for your STI if you traded it in, maybe a little more if you sold it private party. The trade-in KBB is $23,800. Depending on how much you have paid off on your loan, you may even be upside down on your loan (owe more than your car is worth due to depreciation)
If I were you, and could handle the payments you are making now, I would keep it. You're talking about trading in a car that cost you $35,000+ for a car that will cost you $20,000+ and end with the same bottom-line result, except that when you go to sell the TC or trade it in later, it will be worth even less than your STI would be worth.
Suck it up, keep the car and buy different seats if they bother you that much. Buy tires with a thicker sidewall for a more plush ride. Modifying your existing car will probably cost you less money in the long run anyways than you would end up with if you bought a TC.
My $.02.
