Default Thinking about a skyyawn TC...

Well now that the "I have to have a quick car" bug has gotten out of my system, (460 fwhp custom turbo kit'd neon(srt-4))I am thinking of getting a TC and just focusing on visual aspects( wheels, actual real retro projectors, etc.) and this way I can possibly save money, if I can resist modding the TC, and not have to worry about warranty issues, like I had with douche bag Dodge. I have read up and seen that most of the complaints are just minor things a slow throttle-by-wire, instead of throttle-by-cable and the noisy hatch thing. meh

Anyway, I am looking at a super white 07. How is Toyota with mods (ie. lowering springs, intake, etc)? Any rumors on the 08's? Hope to have a fun time here. Sorry for the winded first post.

If you want a moderately modded, nice handling street car without worrying about arguing over warranty, go with TRD springs and a TRD rear sway on race setting. Not too much money if you do it yourself and it makes a huge difference in handling and looks. Intakes... they make noise and look good, so if you buy one base it on that. dont go K&N, they break the mounting points most of the time. Get an injen or the AEM. One thing to note though is that you are going to heat soak more wih a CAI.

I have an 05 5 spd with TRD springs, trd rear sway and some other asthetic mods (blue gauges and hvac, new grills, etc) and have not had any real issues. No rattles except a moonroof rattle that only occurs once in a blue moon. A weather seal under my hood just started whistling at highway speed and the hatch struts are getting a little weak at 35,500, so the dealer is replacing both under warranty.. nothing like using the last 500 miles of that bumper to bumper Other than that it has been a great car. If you have driven 5 spds for a while, you will not notice the "throttle delay" after the first day. And to be honest, I am 99% sure it has nothing to do with throttle by wire. Those that dropped in lighter flywheels are saying it is completely gone. It is more an issue of rotational mass.

Of course there are pulleys... but many on here know how I feel about those. Go to yoursciontc.com and look up the sticky on there about them and the other thread we discussed them on. That site has a lot more older, experienced people (not that there arent those here as well, but the other site is a little better for straight up, no bs, technical knowledge) and is a great place to learn more about the physics and real numbers behind a mod. This forum is full of info too if you pick through more stuff.. there are just so many more people on here so you have to search a little more.

And of course, there are tons of asthetic mods as well. Including the led swaps for the gauges and HVAC..... selfish plug there I know There are how to's on both in the tech section.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the tC! They are fun cars. If you have any questions, there are a lot of resources here and on the other site I mentioned, so feel free to ask!

welcome to the boards! i think what most people do on their tc's are visual mods, and if you really want some power there are great turbo kits available that make very good power. how reliable was your srt? just wondering since i have a friend with one and i think he had a lot of trouble with it.

the srt never let me down even though I had a Garrett T3/T67, 750cc injectors, emanage, etc etc. It did what I wanted and now I want an nice relaxing car that i can have fun with in a local autocross. I will not be modding the TC, or trying very hard not to. lol

But now I am stuck with which color I want. I am stuck between Super White and Flint. White, dropped, with black rims...hot. Flint, dropped, gunmetal rims...hot as well.

Anyone have pics of the cars that I mentioned above, it would really help me out. thanks

If you can still get one, get the RS2. You pay about $1,800 for:
Suede/Alcantara seats (if you go aftermarket, would cost you about $700 per seat).
XM/iPod stereo with subwoofer (sub sounds good, won't rattle the fillings from your teeth)
Side curtain airbags (if you don't want glass to puncture your face)
Kick as$ color.

I don't regret the extra $35/month for the RS2 at all.

I was thinking of getting a Nautical Blue and thought about adding a sub later on, but once I sat down in the RS2's interior... it was all over. Besides, I'm a very busy person so I don't have the time to tinker with the car. I like the factory sub. Sure it won't be heard 2 blocks away, but it's fine for Alternative/Classic rock.

They may still have some, so you'll just have to check around. I found my RS from a dealership that was 65 miles away from home. I guess nobody knows what Scions are in the middle of a desert. Desert dealerships are cool, they have a lot of selections.

By the way, if you ever want to supercharge the tC with TRD, just let the dealer install it. A dealership I know charges around $400 to install it.

$400 is a decent price considering that your warranty will stay intact.

No ____. the entire power train warranty will stay intact? Is this a "it depends on the dealer" or every dealer must uphold the warranty?

never mind. Found that it The system is covered by the remainder of the Toyota 5 year/60,000 mile warranty when installed by a Scion dealer and is emissions legal in all 50 states.

this is probably a total knewb question but aren't all toyota dealers scion dealers??

not all toyota dealers are scion dealers but a large percentage (like 9/10) are.
