When I saw the first pictures of new Toyota bB (Daihatsu Materia) based xB, I screamed in horror, since they turned the most beautiful in its simplicity automobile design into complex nonsensical curves; and I rushed to the Scion dealer to buy one before the real ones will disappear. So far I just hate the new design. After one month of driving my new 2006 xB and seeing more of the car caricature that is coming our way, I feel better and better about my purchase.
Do you also hate new design, or I am in minority here?

I think it looks really nice... it really ties in well with the futuristic looking theme imo

We'll probably know for sure exactly what the replacement for the xB is like, around the middle of December...
So far I haven't seen any guesses that I liked the look of. :(

It is a little early to call the next xB ugly--as we have not seen. The new bB is NOT the xB replacement so we have to wait and see............

Looks like someone hasn't done their research. We aren't getting the Toyota bB or anything like it. Its been said multiple times. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but its been said A LOT! I don't like the new Toyota bB either. ;)

I've seen people say that but i've yet to see any official statement from toyota. . . . Thusfar all i've seen is people like us speculating.

That's not accurate at all. I wanted the current design ever since I saw the first one. I liken peoples love of this design to the popularity of the classic VW beetle. Beetle sales went down at the introduction of the redesigned Super Beetle. Had nothing to do with a fear of change . . . It was the fact that people loved the classic design.

Unfortunately, many things were said...
EVERYTHING points to new bB to be the xB replacement. Actually it is Daihatsu Materia....
Since there is no new line of boxes, my bet is on Materia -> bB -> xB.
And sorry, it is UGLY!
From Paris Auto Show http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/motoring/2006/oct/25/motoring-25-10-2006-001.htm
Production car: Materia
Daihatsu adds the Materia, a quirky looking small minivan, to its European lineup. The boxy Materia is a version of parent Toyota's US-market Scion xB and Japan-only Toyota bB with a new front grille and different bumpers. It was shown as the D-Compact Wagon concept at the Geneva auto show in March.
Sales start next spring. The Materia's rear seats move backward or forward on rails to give what Daihatsu executives say is the most flexible interior ever seen from the brand. A 1.5-litre, 105hp gasoline engine, which also is in the brand's new Terios small SUV, powers the minivan. No diesel-powered Materia is planned.

I kind of like the bB replacement--am sorry it will not be here. Still holding judgement on the xB replacement. I do get a kick out of xB owners (myself included) who find other cars ugly. My father's favorite saying was, "It's like the old lady that kissed the cow--its all a matter of taste".

To me it's not about ugly (like you pointed out we have no room to talk) It's about the fact that it resembles the PT Cruiser too much. . . . Especially the back end. It sort of lost the cool uniqueness (similar to the original VW Beetle as compared to the New Beetle).

things will unravel this december..
just geez... the facts are facts.. new bB != new xB
nothing points to the new bB as the xB replacement at all... research has been done, and i have friends confirm it even in person
(they've seen the new xB in person already, but won't reveal any more facts due to their contracted secrecy)
just wait until they reveal it... sheesh people.

Either way, i'm trying to keep my new xB paid up so that it's got positive equity . . . Just in case it's something uber cool replaces it.

No- I totally agree, i saw that new one, and ran out and got my new xB before production stops in December 2006, even if the changes to the xB chasis are slight, i still think they are making a mistake changing a design that is obviously so popular. Ford hade the Taurus in essentially the same chasis for 12 years, why would scion want to change the unique look of the xB- those new 2008 models look like the xB and a PT Cruiser had an illegitimate child.

^^^ Toyota would want to change the overall design because many (not most) B buyers are much younger than the typical Taurus buyer was over a decade ago.
Ihave no friggin clue as to what the new model will look like, but I will tell you that the new bB is NOT the xB, as aformentioned. After being told at least part of the spec sheet on the new B, I just hope that they are able to stay on par with the MX-5 in terms of curb weight!
Simply stated, I can't wait to see the new model. I just hope that my wife and I don't love it so much that I have to say bye to my beloved and beautiful RS3.

Unless Toyota Japan suddenly changed their minds, we got confirmation from Toyota Japan officials that the new bB will not be the 2008 xB. The bB would remain in the Asian market and anywhere else they're offered. As far as we know, as well as many others, there has not been any formal announcement as to what will be the 2008 xB. I can't wait to find out though. Like iKevin said, just get your xB's equity up so that you can trade in (if you want) and get the 2008 xB incase it is awesome.

You know what I see as the problem for any xB replacement?
It was a solid hit for design and appeal. No replacement will ever be "right".
A good example of this is the original 50's Thunderbird....such classic, perfect, clean lines......then came the the ridiculous, over-styled four seater of the late '50s.
When an automaker gets a design right, it is hard to top it!

It's too bad the bB isn't coming over to America. I would buy something that looked like that in a second.
Come to think of it, December is actually a decent time to learn about the new models, as I should be getting my year-end bonus soon after. If the new Scion models look sweet I can start saving, or if they look like a dog's rear-end I can just start looking elsewhere...

the new xB is so fantastic it's not even funny. saw it at a focus group in sf a few months back. it is the perfect evolution of the xB, maintains all of the key elements (on that note, they had an element there for comparison - why are those so hideous??) but completely dialing in the design, interior and out. it is essentially the t2B but with glass aft of the c-pillar. in other words, the rear end is way cooler than the prelim concept. not so pushed in in the back. but the front end is almost exactly the same. also, speedo is now accompanied by two semi-round guage clusters to the right of it in the center dash cluster. it looks amazing. and it's intended to have 160 hp engine. goodbye gas mileage, hello performance. i will be first in line when these are rolling in mid-next year.
