View Full Version : Black Tape on Doors
IceBox 12-02-2003, 07:21 AM I just removed the black tape surrounding my door windows and it looks AWESOME!!! The tape covers the color of your car, I guess to matchh the window edges, but my thundercloud xb looks awesome with it off. I noticed that when i opened my door, the corners of the door did show a sign of it being tape, and my suspision was rectified at Cerritos this weekend. I can't get over it, I knew my xb needed some more color to it, and that was a perfect touch.
If any of you guys decide to do this, I reccomend a blow drier and some goo-gone to remove the sticky stuff after you peel all the tape off. I think everyone should take it off!! Why did they even put it on?

arinvolvo 12-02-2003, 07:32 AM a lot of the SEMA scions had the tape removed....looks nice on the darker cars...but I wouldnt do it to a white one.

the car is black, they did WITHOUT the black sticker.

how long did it take you to peel them off?
did u blow dry the tape first or heat it as u peeled them off?
i'm planning on doing that this weekend...just trying to figure how long it will take?
no other special tool required besides a blow dryer? i already have bug and tar..which works great on gooey stuff.

No imagine if they were painted the same color as your car.

G-Force 12-02-2003, 09:51 PM why would want to do this? I just looked at mine and it seems that they (Toyota) wanted the outside door pillars to match the panel that shows thru inbetween the pillars. Unless you can post a pic with them removed, i would think that they look funny with a break in the flat black pillars with a streak of body color.

it doesn't peel like sticker?
i saw a blue xB with the tape removed...it looked pretty clean...although the rear window window guide (which is not taped, just black rubber-type) sort of off sets the nice body color of the door frame. but overall..it looked pretty clean.
i'm strongly consider doing it. it adds abit more sparkle to ur bling bling ride..haha.

i think toyota did that for a reason, so when u look from the side, the pillar match tinted windows....u kno all black... 8)
IceBox 12-02-2003, 11:45 PM Here's a pic of mine. It took me about an hour too. I had to scrub on it for a while with goo-gone though to get the stickyness off, but its worth it.

i thnk that's y it's recommended more for a dark color car...
i'll definitely post some new pix after i get my strips off... i need to do some updates anyway...although i have very few subtle mods...like bB badge and getting some graphix sticker put on hopefully this weekend by GoldLine.

uh yea...I realized that. what I meant is that the color of the sides doesnt flow towards the back - making it looked disconnected or what I said as "chopped" off.

didn't come with it. BUT xb's that are different color,
costing the same amount comes with it.

I think if you did it it would look really chopped off especially with your dark wheels. It might look different/better with silver/chrome wheels.

remember-patience is a key factor when removing these very sticky tape!

1sikxb, ya know, I just went out to get the paper, I think I'll keep the tape. Since my windows are tinted, and the wheels are gunmetal, I'm w/ you, I don't think it'll look right. Maybe if the windows weren't tinted, and I had silver or chrome wheels, I would.

they cover it to give the allusion of one piece design. if provides a smoother look to the car and unbroken line in that section.
