OK, let's get some use out of this topic, folks. :)

There are a few of us that are sort of 'clumped together' geographically.

- IF we are all leaving SeaTac on the same flight (or at least similar times),

- and IF the folks reasonably close to each other are planning on using a taxi or shuttle to get to the airport

we might be able to save a couple of bucks getting to the airport by grouping together for the ride.

(Personally I'm either using taxi or shuttle - there is NO way I'm going to leave my box in a 'long term parking' lot anywhere near the airport...)

If people do it by taxi, the one farthest could have the taxi gather up closer folks as the pass by, I would think, or even have the taxi make specific stops at more than one point.

I dunno - I haven't checked this out at all, and we don't know what the flight schedules look like yet. I'm just putting this out here as something to maybe think about.

I will probably be driven down by my family or by my father. Depending on who takes me, time of day, etc., I could probably pick up a few of you near I-5 along the way if they need a ride.

As far as planning the vacation, I want to know who wants to rent a car with me on Sat (if you've chosen to stay another day) and go drive on the Overseas Highway. I don't want to do it by myself but I might if nobody wants to go. I really want to see the Gulf of Mexico and all scenery that the road has to offer.

If you need to leave a car, my office is about 1/2 a mile behind the airport and I can arrange to have one or two of us leave a car there. safe, well lit and secure. Anywhoo, its like a 8.00 cab ride from the airport and free to the airport if we all ealve close to the same time as I can have my dad who works with me drive us over.

I rented a car (mustang convertable) and have it reserved in MIA to be picked up when we get to the airport. Since Gabi and I are both going we still have spots for two people to jump in on it. The way I look at it, since you wont be able to drive the car, if you want to throw in on it, we'll be able to get from the airport, to the events on friday and you can just throw some gas money in and we'll be cool. Nothing says poppin like MIA in a convertable!

I dont know about the Overseas highway but I do plan on doing Miami beach and going to dinner and a little sightseeing. all Gabi and I ask is that you be nice and throw some gas money in each time you ride with us as this was not a cheap car!. (fun though it will be, gabi nixed my idea on this one...

As of right now, a few of us are on a flight that arrives in Miami around 9:10. I would love to go to dinner, may be getting flight changed, not sure yet, was told I could get it changed Monday morning if need be. I don;t want to hold anyone up if you guys want to start without me, thats fine, maybe I'll eat in the bar, olives can be filling if you eat enough, lol.

I probably won't change my flight since it's not a major problem. I don't really want to be a pain in the butt and get everything changed around, since they seem to be pretty busy as it is...

Yeah, I was just thinking about the poor souls that get in at or around 9pm (I think the Oregonians are showing up real late). Add any delays and time to get to the hotel and signed in, I was thinking it'd be July before we got dinner started. But I guess it's inevitable to have some show up late or miss it entirely.

But yeah, if 9pm is only 6pm to us... some of us might still be hanging out there or of migrated to some bar within the hotel. Perhaps we'll figure out the name of the hotel bar and make plans to be at one place or the other.

Depending on how late the restaurant stays open, and when they will accept the last reservation for dinner we might be able to slip the planned time quite a bit.

If they will make reservations for 10PM we might want to give that a shot (after all, since that is only 7PM Pacific time, some of us might just be getting hungry...).

If it doesn't work for everyone no matter what, we'll just have to live with it. As long as we do the best we can, we've done well.

UPDATE: I just checked, and Emeril's hours don't work in our favor. :(

But, but, but... the picture shows a steak!?!? I didn't see where it said what you posted, Tomas, but only had a clue as to what hey had by the picture. Sounds like false advertising, lol.

That's the only in-hotel solution I could find. Perhaps I'll see if I can't find something within walking distance to the hotel. Besides just being light meals, the probably cost an arm and a leg. I want to save money for the uppity-nice-popular food elsewhere.

There's a burger place a couple of blocks away, but their burgers average $10... We aren't in a cheap part of the world, Jenna...

I'm sure there will be places nearby, and when it comes right down to it, if we can't figure it out ourselves, there is always the hotel concierge who we can ask for guidance. In fact I just may try to do that in advance so we can have some firm plans.

(The quotes about the lounge that I posted were found via a Google search for Hemisphere Lounge Miami to see if there was any additional info...) :)

ten dollar burgers after flying all day and munching on granola bars sounds down right tasty to me, would rather eat something like that then MacD's.

I haven't been able to find the hours, so I just called the burger place - Thursdays they open at 11AM and close at 4AM :)

They are about two blocks south of the hotel per the maps.

P.S. At least some of us need to swap cell phone numbers so we can coordinate and get together while we are there. My cellphone will be on my hip, and turned on while I'm there: (253) PM-FOR-#. (Yes, it will work just fine there, and most folks calling from another cellphone will have no problem reaching me - if you call from a hotel phone, however, it is a long distance call even if I am 3 feet from you...)

uh... crap... missed that window.... came via email... but after the lighting storm we had earlier this week i had intermitent net axs ... some sites would work.. but email server not reachable... then other sites would work and the ones that did before didnt...

oh well will try... tho in the grand scheme of things... $50-100 to change flight to an other wise 1200 value trip.. not that bad...

yeah I was talking about the wintery conditions... either way, ORD and MDW seem to be at the bottom of the list for "on-time" departures... Flight delays don't happen that often really.

Bump to say that us Washington winners have an awesomely long thread and how awesomely wonderfully greatly excited I am about this trip! neo/racin, if you go to AA.com and look up your reservations (use 6 letter code on your itinerary), does it show you as having seats on the plane... can you change your seats? I've got unassigned seats all the way to Miami and neither of the two flights there show available seats.

I've got seats on the way back. Just wished I would of looked earlier and seen if there was some better ones I could of gotten.

I'm flying American Airlines down there and was able to select my seats on both legs.
I did select them early on though, when I first recieved flight info.

Yeah... I think, for some reason, there is no way for anybody to assign seats on the two flights on the way down. I mean, there is absolutely no options and I don't have any assigned seat as of yet too.

I just don't want to sit in the middle.

As usual, expect the airlines to sell about 150% of their capacity, and depend on a third of the people not showing up for the flight...of course if they do, not everyone gets on. There's just something basically wrong when they sell the same seat twice, and confirm that same seat to both people. :tap:

Airlines often overbook flights, according to the ATA. Overbooking is the practice of selling more tickets for a flight than there are seats available. Airlines justify this practice by using historical analysis of traveller behavior. Often, travelers don't show up for a flight that they have a reservation for, or they don't make it to the gate in time. There are also travelers who reserve seats on multiple airlines and flights to ensure their travel plans. The ATA reports that airlines take great care in selecting which flights to overbook. They look at a flight's history of no-shows and try to match the overbook number to that.

Obviously, overbooking can sometimes cause problems, such as when more people show up for a flight than there are seats available. When that happens, airlines give special incentives to travelers who are willing to give up their seats. Usually, these volunteers are given free fare on another flight. If an airline is forced to bump a passenger involuntarily, the airline must compensate that person.

2 tC, yeah, it does give us an option to change our seats. But for our two flights there, our seat is set to "unassigned" and the little picture of the airplane seats all have little gray Xs all over them. Can't select a seat.

Tom, is that what happens when they over book? I was thinking it might of been that they weren't entirely sure what type of plane we'd be in, therefore couldn't give us seat numbers.

I dunno, Jenna. Each airline site is different, and each airline is different.

I'm assigned seats on all flights, some airlines don't pre-assign on certain flights, some airlines don't assign at all (SouthWest), some overbook to an incredible amount (Alaska, United), some don't overbook (JetBlue).

I suspect meet in the lobby - or at Cheeseburger Baby's - at 9PM or so. That will probably be less than 15 minutes after I get checked in after spending a long day on airplanes, so I'm having to depend on all the 'earlier arrivals' to have everything all sorted out and running smoothly. :P

hmm, I thought the plan was for 10 pm at burgerbabies, would love to get a burger after the long flight, I am getting excited about this trip, took the next two days off to get things organized so that there won't be any worries while I'm gone. It was originally 10PM to allow people a little time after getting in, Robbie - I don't know how 9PM snuck in here. :)

10PM would probably be better for us left coasters - after all, it's only 7PM "real time."

Thing is, it's a vast democracy, and we each only get one vote. :P

I'll try to hit whatever time is set, but 10PM is what I would like to see as the target.
