View Full Version : WASHINGTON WINNERS UNITE! ohcanada_00 10-28-2006, 10:17 PM WHO ARE YA? Lets meet and do something! Jenna 10-29-2006, 01:48 AM I'm me and okay! Tomas 10-29-2006, 02:29 AM I'm me, and you know I'm always there in the background somewhere, Dustin. Tomas rideboarder 10-29-2006, 04:27 AM works for me. ohcanada_00 10-30-2006, 11:38 PM nice, where are the rest of us at?????????? I say we cahllenge another state to bingo or something... lol I'm wicked excited about all this! Jenna 10-31-2006, 03:58 AM I really hope we all fly out together. We can also cut the cab fair up to nothing and maybe be given hotel rooms next to each other if we all sign in together. Maybe if we do something together, it should be after we get checked in.. like dinner and drinks at the fancy Emeril's in the hotel? We can all say "BAM" each time we take a drink and complain to our waiter that our food needs to be taken back to the kitchen and "kicked up a notch". Suppose only a select few will get that. Tomas 10-31-2006, 06:58 AM I'm in, Jenna! http://tijil.org/awais.gif Tomas CapeCodBlitzBlue 10-31-2006, 11:01 AM Bingo? Massachusetts says bring it on!! Scavenger hunt could be fun too. From Sea to Shining Sea!!!! Friendly competition of course Jenna 10-31-2006, 01:22 PM LOL, bingo. I didn't even see your post. Yeah, that'd be swell! I'll bring my never ending supply of ink dotter things and my fiber tablets. Tomas, I'm so glad you're in for that. There are so many wonderful places I want to eat down there and if at least once I could get someone to come with me while I dine, I'd be forever greatfull. Nobo is another place I MUST eat at too. XoBxPleasuresoX 10-31-2006, 02:10 PM I could do dinner and drinks Thursday night too.... ohcanada_00 10-31-2006, 03:33 PM I really hope we all fly out together. I prit near fell out of my chair laughing at this........ I went to the same college Emeril did so I'm always in the mood to hear somsone make fun of him. Jenna 10-31-2006, 05:06 PM ohcanada, are you in then? Racinkid13 10-31-2006, 06:05 PM im in to do somthing. i dont know no one 'cept for dustin. sorry, im in training class all week, just saw this. stupid laptops. ohcanada_00 11-01-2006, 02:32 AM oh heck yeah I;m in! Tomas 11-04-2006, 09:00 AM Fourth wave is in, folks, more Washington and Oregon people on the list!!! :) Really happy to see some of those :D Congrats to y'all! Tomas Tomas 11-05-2006, 11:42 PM OK, let's get some use out of this topic, folks. :) There are a few of us that are sort of 'clumped together' geographically. - IF we are all leaving SeaTac on the same flight (or at least similar times), - and IF the folks reasonably close to each other are planning on using a taxi or shuttle to get to the airport we might be able to save a couple of bucks getting to the airport by grouping together for the ride. (Personally I'm either using taxi or shuttle - there is NO way I'm going to leave my box in a 'long term parking' lot anywhere near the airport...) If people do it by taxi, the one farthest could have the taxi gather up closer folks as the pass by, I would think, or even have the taxi make specific stops at more than one point. I dunno - I haven't checked this out at all, and we don't know what the flight schedules look like yet. I'm just putting this out here as something to maybe think about. Tomas Jenna 11-05-2006, 11:57 PM I will probably be driven down by my family or by my father. Depending on who takes me, time of day, etc., I could probably pick up a few of you near I-5 along the way if they need a ride. As far as planning the vacation, I want to know who wants to rent a car with me on Sat (if you've chosen to stay another day) and go drive on the Overseas Highway. I don't want to do it by myself but I might if nobody wants to go. I really want to see the Gulf of Mexico and all scenery that the road has to offer. ohcanada_00 11-06-2006, 01:28 AM If you need to leave a car, my office is about 1/2 a mile behind the airport and I can arrange to have one or two of us leave a car there. safe, well lit and secure. Anywhoo, its like a 8.00 cab ride from the airport and free to the airport if we all ealve close to the same time as I can have my dad who works with me drive us over. I rented a car (mustang convertable) and have it reserved in MIA to be picked up when we get to the airport. Since Gabi and I are both going we still have spots for two people to jump in on it. The way I look at it, since you wont be able to drive the car, if you want to throw in on it, we'll be able to get from the airport, to the events on friday and you can just throw some gas money in and we'll be cool. Nothing says poppin like MIA in a convertable! I dont know about the Overseas highway but I do plan on doing Miami beach and going to dinner and a little sightseeing. all Gabi and I ask is that you be nice and throw some gas money in each time you ride with us as this was not a cheap car!. (fun though it will be, gabi nixed my idea on this one... https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/byr/index.jsp?targetPage=USshelbygth.jsp&leftNavUserSelection=globNav_3_5_1®ion=United%20States Jenna 11-06-2006, 04:36 AM Sweet car Dustin! Tomas 11-06-2006, 05:06 AM Surprised you didn't opt for a CSI/Miami silver Hummer, Dustin. :P If it is OK, Dustin, I'd like to park my lovable little xB at your work location, but you realize, of course, we will likely have to be at the airport by about 0600 at the latest - maybe even earlier. That sounds like taking a cab from there to departure... On my way back, I'll probably be getting in at some ungodly oh-dark-thirty time. Will I be able to get to my car at like 3 in the morning? Oh well, we'll know more when we get some tickets. Might be as early as next week. :) Tomas ohcanada_00 11-06-2006, 07:18 AM yes, cars will be in our rear parking area but will have cameras and lights on them at almost all times. The_Sleepy_Tiger 11-11-2006, 06:27 PM yay! Dustin and I are both in and confirmed! Jenna 11-12-2006, 10:38 PM I'm on pins and needles, waiting for my airline info! neolusions 11-13-2006, 02:31 AM hmmm i dont check the miami winners thread often.. but anyways... WA represent! Jenna 11-13-2006, 11:15 PM Okay, I hope we're on the same flight there... AMERICAN AIRLINES 1220 (6:05am) to Chicago and same flight number from Chicago to Miami. My itinerary: https://www.virtuallythere.com/new/reservations.html?host=1W&pnr=159DECCHFP65&name=EVENSON&language=0&email=8 And on the itinerary, it says Miami is 78 degrees right now at 7:16pm, lol. Tomas 11-14-2006, 03:06 AM Hmmmmmm... I'm leaving at 0830 on the 14th and flying Continental via Houston to Miami - arrive @ 1934... Return flight is totally screwed - I'll be working on that. :( Tomas Jenna 11-14-2006, 03:14 AM Hmmmmmm... I'm leaving at 0830 on the 14th and flying Continental via Houston to Miami - arrive @ 1934... I think it's VERY lame that we're all not flying together. I'll be there much earlier than you, 1655. I'm seriously bummed about this. I guess we'll all meet at Emeril's for a late dinner then? Davie06TC 11-14-2006, 06:54 AM Hey! I want to go to Emrils too, i need my food kicked up a notch or 3. Dont count us oregon folk out, please :) Jenna 11-14-2006, 03:44 PM Hey! I want to go to Emrils too, i need my food kicked up a notch or 3. Dont count us oregon folk out, please :) BAM! You're in as far as I'm concerned! ***audience goes into fits of laughter and clapping*** Tomas 11-14-2006, 07:10 PM Keep in mind that if you folks wait for me you'll be having a late dinner - well, at least by THAT time zone, it will be normal by ours? When we get a little closer, and everyone has all their times sorted out, we should probably make reservations? Jenna, since I seem to recall you being the 'instigator' in this, you want the honors? :D Tomas ohcanada_00 11-14-2006, 09:17 PM gabi and I will be in late but we still want to go! Jenna 11-14-2006, 09:19 PM Keep in mind that if you folks wait for me you'll be having a late dinner - well, at least by THAT time zone, it will be normal by ours? When we get a little closer, and everyone has all their times sorted out, we should probably make reservations? Jenna, since I seem to recall you being the 'instigator' in this, you want the honors? :D Tomas Late dinner is okay with me. Yes, I suppose I could get the reservations when we work out what's doin'. robbiej 11-14-2006, 10:46 PM *doing the miami shuffle* look out crocket and tubbs, here comes washington state, lol. kkawana 11-15-2006, 05:16 PM working on getting my time okayd... think i successfully got rid of my weekend duty.. now for the thurs/fri combo Jenna 11-15-2006, 07:55 PM Does anybody have the time or a fast computer to go and list all who has won from WA and post it here? Tomas Jenna 11-15-2006, 11:44 PM Wow! That' a lot of us! Where the hell is everybody? This thread ought to be at least 10 pages long by now! Jenna 11-15-2006, 11:45 PM Oh, and thanks for doing that, robbiej robbiej 11-16-2006, 12:01 AM eh, no problem, I have been locked on this site most of the day, checking for updates, lol. Hope I get my info soon. kkawana 11-16-2006, 05:03 PM just got all cleared at work to go... papers have been faxed!!! Jenna 11-16-2006, 11:55 PM kkawana... YAY rideboarder... WTH? Call the travel agent lady and tell her you want on the AA 1220 flight with the majority of us for the way down! Jenna 11-17-2006, 10:26 PM So can the 5th wave winners post when they have their flight itinerary? Or better yet, someone who's better at planning stuff, come up with a good idea as to how to figure out what time I should reserve tables as Emeril's or how to figure out how many are coming. I'm thinking a seperate post labeled for all PNW people (or shall we shun the Oregonians? lol) and have only people who want to come post there and what time they'll be arriving. Maybe we should have a dinner A and a dinner B since there seems to be HOURS difference between people's arrivals? Maybe skip that and make it a breakfast? Help, suggestions, someone just want to take over the planning... all appreciated! lol Tomas 11-17-2006, 11:49 PM My initial thought was for a 9PM dinner time (which would be what, 6PM Pacific time?). I think that would catch everyone from here so far... We'll know better once everyone has their flight info. When we all have our flight info, it would be a good idea to have a "Planning and Sign-up" topic for the PNW First Night Dinner. Do we include Oregon? Hell yes! (Assuming any of them want to be seen with us. :P ) Tomas robbiej 11-17-2006, 11:58 PM As of right now, a few of us are on a flight that arrives in Miami around 9:10. I would love to go to dinner, may be getting flight changed, not sure yet, was told I could get it changed Monday morning if need be. I don;t want to hold anyone up if you guys want to start without me, thats fine, maybe I'll eat in the bar, olives can be filling if you eat enough, lol. rideboarder 11-18-2006, 12:33 AM I probably won't change my flight since it's not a major problem. I don't really want to be a pain in the butt and get everything changed around, since they seem to be pretty busy as it is... Jenna 11-18-2006, 12:43 AM Yeah, I was just thinking about the poor souls that get in at or around 9pm (I think the Oregonians are showing up real late). Add any delays and time to get to the hotel and signed in, I was thinking it'd be July before we got dinner started. But I guess it's inevitable to have some show up late or miss it entirely. But yeah, if 9pm is only 6pm to us... some of us might still be hanging out there or of migrated to some bar within the hotel. Perhaps we'll figure out the name of the hotel bar and make plans to be at one place or the other. Tomas 11-18-2006, 01:01 AM Depending on how late the restaurant stays open, and when they will accept the last reservation for dinner we might be able to slip the planned time quite a bit. If they will make reservations for 10PM we might want to give that a shot (after all, since that is only 7PM Pacific time, some of us might just be getting hungry...). If it doesn't work for everyone no matter what, we'll just have to live with it. As long as we do the best we can, we've done well. UPDATE: I just checked, and Emeril's hours don't work in our favor. :( Feast on award-winning cuisine by world-renowned Chef Emeril Lagasse. A menu that stars the freshest local catch prepared with a pinch of New Orleans “Bam!” Enjoy the freshest seafood, a nightly tasting menu and extensive wine list. Lunch: 11:30am – 2pm Dinner: Sun – Thu, 5:30 – 10pm, Fri – Sat, 5:30 – 11pm http://www.loewshotels.com/en/Hotels/Miami-Beach-Hotel/Dining/Overview.aspx Even a 9PM meal might be pushing it on a Thursday. :( Looking at the quick list for places in the hotel, I may end up eating something from a 24 hr burger stand somewhere... :( Tomas Jenna 11-18-2006, 01:05 AM Good investigation work Tomas! We'll have to check out the hotel bars and such now I guess, lol. I'm still going to eat at Emeril's, whether it be on Thursday or some other time. ohcanada_00 11-18-2006, 07:56 AM i'm down for dinner at 10 robbiej 11-18-2006, 09:56 AM dinner at ten sounds great, now where??? Jenna 11-18-2006, 06:11 PM In our hotel... Hemisphere Lounge http://www.loewshotels.com/Images/DefaultThumbnails/Thumb-resto03.jpg Conversation and martinis flow in this fashionable atmosphere. A refined place to enjoy the perfect martini selected from the most extensive martini menu in all of Florida. With a list of over 240 combinations, you are sure to find a new favorite. Daily, 11 – 2am No reservations required Tomas 11-18-2006, 06:57 PM "Centrally located for maximum people-watching, this sleek lounge features extensive Martini Menus with more than 240 recipes." "Hemisphere Lounge A trendy bar and meeting place. With an extensive martini menu, serves Sushi, and light dishes." Hopefully their 'light dishes' have something that will appeal to all. Tomas Jenna 11-18-2006, 07:36 PM "Hemisphere Lounge A trendy bar and meeting place. With an extensive martini menu, serves Sushi, and light dishes." Hopefully their 'light dishes' have something that will appeal to all. Tomas But, but, but... the picture shows a steak!?!? I didn't see where it said what you posted, Tomas, but only had a clue as to what hey had by the picture. Sounds like false advertising, lol. That's the only in-hotel solution I could find. Perhaps I'll see if I can't find something within walking distance to the hotel. Besides just being light meals, the probably cost an arm and a leg. I want to save money for the uppity-nice-popular food elsewhere. Tomas 11-18-2006, 08:38 PM There's a burger place a couple of blocks away, but their burgers average $10... We aren't in a cheap part of the world, Jenna... I'm sure there will be places nearby, and when it comes right down to it, if we can't figure it out ourselves, there is always the hotel concierge who we can ask for guidance. In fact I just may try to do that in advance so we can have some firm plans. (The quotes about the lounge that I posted were found via a Google search for Hemisphere Lounge Miami to see if there was any additional info...) :) Tomas robbiej 11-18-2006, 08:45 PM ten dollar burgers after flying all day and munching on granola bars sounds down right tasty to me, would rather eat something like that then MacD's. Tomas 11-18-2006, 09:29 PM I haven't been able to find the hours, so I just called the burger place - Thursdays they open at 11AM and close at 4AM :) They are about two blocks south of the hotel per the maps. Here's a reference: http://www.miamibeach411.com/Restaurants/cheeseburgerbaby.html It's not Emerils, but at least it's open whenever we get there... I'm looking at other things in the area, too. (http://www.miamibeach411.com/maps/index.php?Type=Restaurant (SR A1A is Collins Ave. and the hotel is at 16th and Collins. Cheeseburger Baby is at 15th and Washington - that's one block west and one block south...) Maybe we can all meet in the lobby then hike down for a burger? I'm in for that/ :D http://tijil.org/MB_CBB_LH_01.jpg Tomas P.S. At least some of us need to swap cell phone numbers so we can coordinate and get together while we are there. My cellphone will be on my hip, and turned on while I'm there: (253) PM-FOR-#. (Yes, it will work just fine there, and most folks calling from another cellphone will have no problem reaching me - if you call from a hotel phone, however, it is a long distance call even if I am 3 feet from you...) T Jenna 11-18-2006, 10:03 PM Tomas, I saved your cell # in my phone. Mine is 360-PM-FOR-# and will not be on my hip but rather turned on and in my pocket, lol. Perhaps everybody could migrate down to the burger place, starting around 9:30-10:00pm? We could make sure we mention "CHEESEBURGER BABY" enough times that knowing where to go comes second nature... instinct if you will... by December 14th. Jenna 11-18-2006, 10:06 PM Perhaps everybody could migrate down to the burger place, starting around 9:30-10:00pm? I say migrate, only because waiting for so many people with so many different flight arrivals that could be delayed, ain't my thing, lol. I rather spend some time walking the beach in the dark and then know that there will be at least some people at the burger place when I get there. You call can meet if you want, lol. Tomas 11-18-2006, 10:10 PM (I pulled both of our numbers from the posts - thought better of it. Not that good to post it openly. Hope that's OK.) I put your number in my phone - I already have a few of the others, too. Tomas Jenna 11-18-2006, 10:14 PM No problemo and a good idea. And now that I think about it... I suppose there could be a set time for meeting up in the lobby, late or delayed flights or not. Duh. I'm not thinking too well right now. robbiej 11-19-2006, 04:48 AM I think I have Tomas' number from exposed still, in fact, I know I have it. Tomas 11-19-2006, 04:53 AM My phone knows your phone, too, Robbie. :P Tomas 2_tC 11-19-2006, 09:21 AM I'll join you guys since my flight gets in before 8PM. Meet at the hotel? Racinkid13 11-20-2006, 03:56 PM Hmmm. I may hit you guys up for this too. I believe i get in bout 630ish. Meet some new poeples. robbiej 11-23-2006, 03:09 AM bump for the new winners Jenna 11-24-2006, 01:35 AM So neolusions and I are the only ones on the AA 1220 flight that arrives in FL at 5pm? Tomas 11-24-2006, 02:43 AM I'm trying to get folks to post up their times over here: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=149686 so people can get together with those from all parts of the country who are arriving at near enough the same time to share a ride to the hotel... :) I need a lot more input, though... :( Tomas Jenna 11-24-2006, 09:01 PM That's a good idea Tomas. Neolusions and are already planning to share a ride to the hotel since we're on the same flight. And I'll add that you all blow for not being on our flight! (save your piddly excuses, lol) Oh well! Tomas 11-24-2006, 09:38 PM Since you are leaving Seattle later and arriving in Miami more than two hours earlier, I'd much rather be on your flights, but I appear to have Damned little control over that. :( There is at least one other person (so far) arriving in your time window to share the ride with... Tomas rideboarder 11-24-2006, 09:40 PM Ahh, once your flight gets delayed in Chicago, we will all be in Miami at the same time anyways! :eyebrow: Tomas 11-24-2006, 09:48 PM ... right. Early on the 15th. :P Tomas kkawana 11-24-2006, 09:59 PM ah.. think i'm tenativly on the same as you tomas.... sea>santa ana> DFW> miami.... but looking into getting that changed... Tomas 11-24-2006, 10:10 PM If you change it within 24 hours of the reservation first being made, it can often be done free - after that point, tough, most airlines charge $50 or $100 dollars per person to make the change... Tomas Jenna 11-24-2006, 10:14 PM I haven't ever had a flight delayed in Chicago before... but we always traveled through there in the spring/summer so, I am assuming you're talking about wintery conditions then, eh? kkawana 11-24-2006, 10:23 PM If you change it within 24 hours of the reservation first being made, it can often be done free - after that point, tough, most airlines charge $50 or $100 dollars per person to make the change... Tomas uh... crap... missed that window.... came via email... but after the lighting storm we had earlier this week i had intermitent net axs ... some sites would work.. but email server not reachable... then other sites would work and the ones that did before didnt... oh well will try... tho in the grand scheme of things... $50-100 to change flight to an other wise 1200 value trip.. not that bad... rideboarder 11-24-2006, 10:34 PM yeah I was talking about the wintery conditions... either way, ORD and MDW seem to be at the bottom of the list for "on-time" departures... (http://www.bts.gov/programs/airline_information/airline_ontime_tables/2006_07/html/table_06.html) ... But I doubt that you'll have any problems flying through there... Flight delays don't happen that often really. Tomas 11-24-2006, 11:13 PM Heh. I'm really no better off flying through Houston and Philadelphia. :( rideboarder 11-25-2006, 12:00 AM Me neither. Two stops just gives us more chances of delays. robbiej 11-25-2006, 01:02 AM glad I only have one stop each way, the first leg home is going to be a long flight, 6+ hours, to san fran, haven't been on a plane that long since I was in Okinawa, in 1964, lol. Racinkid13 11-26-2006, 06:01 PM Im laid over in Chicago too. Im not too worried. BoiseAuctioneer 11-29-2006, 09:44 PM Have yet to get my confirmation but I am hoping only to have one stop compared to the original 3~ (Am I close enough to be considered a wa____onian? Tomas 11-29-2006, 10:37 PM Heck yes, you're close enough! (...long as you're not from California... :P ) Welcome to the party! Tomas BoiseAuctioneer 11-29-2006, 11:10 PM I'm accepted! BoiseAuctioneer 11-29-2006, 11:11 PM Lol I concur! Looks like this place is rocking! So has there been any set plans yet as to what is going to exactly happen in Miami? Party wise as in meeting Thursday, plans on Friday? robbiej 11-29-2006, 11:41 PM we are planning to hit up a burger place after everyone gets in on Thurs. night, not exactly sure on the time, most will be getting in around 9pm, dinner time for us, lol. BoiseAuctioneer 11-30-2006, 12:15 AM Yeah thats perfect eating time for us and I am sorry but we will be vamished after shamefully picking through our airline meals rideboarder 11-30-2006, 12:28 AM well, you won't have to worry about picking through the airline meal since you won't get one....unless of course you're desperate enough to pay for it. Tomas 11-30-2006, 12:43 AM After an entire day sitting on airplanes, I will not be embarrassed at all to devour a $10 Cheesburger at Cheeseburger Baby in Miami at 10PM. :D Tomas rideboarder 11-30-2006, 01:08 AM I'll take the 1 LB Double Cheeseburger + French Fries for $14! http://www.cheeseburgerbabyusa.com/ http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/7129/image001lc1.jpg (http://imageshack.us) robbiej 11-30-2006, 01:36 AM lol, wonder if the 5 dollar all you can drink goes for the beers also BoiseAuctioneer 11-30-2006, 02:15 AM Now that place would have potential! Tomas 11-30-2006, 02:37 AM I keep seeing "Free Delivery" on their stuff, and since the place looks absolutely packed in the pics, maybe if the weather is nice we could even find a patio or something to sit around outside at the hotel and eat. :) Anyway, I'm having something from there my first night in Miami Beach. :D Tomas BoiseAuctioneer 11-30-2006, 02:49 AM I would totally be up to pullling up there with us in all of our scions but I right now see us showing up in a hotel van or a couple taxis and yeah does not look good. A special request for everyone here. What is the favorite shirt from tshirthell.com I am going to get a couple from the trip and the #1 voted I will wear on the plane Thursday! Cast your votes in your next post! Tomas 11-30-2006, 03:12 AM Cheeseburger Baby is only two blocks from the hotel - short walk. Anybody see that other post with the walking map? I'd like to see you guys before we get on the plane and not waste time trying to figure out who you are when we get there. Also, you're guys, right? You're not going to check your baggage, right? I will but do not want to wait for your luggage at Miami. Tomas 12-05-2006, 02:51 AM I assume each of you guys is going to be wearing something "Scion" at Sea-Tac, right? I will have to figure out some sort of defining attire. Perhaps I'll just pin a Scion logo upon my shirt? Racinkid, no, I'm not checking anything in. I don't want to wait for it or have so much stuff that it becomes a PITA to haul it around. Cool.. we'll have a super cheap cab ride then! I call shotgun (unless driver is super creepy). Jenna 12-08-2006, 01:55 PM Bump to say that us Washington winners have an awesomely long thread and how awesomely wonderfully greatly excited I am about this trip! I cannot believe all the awesomely wonderful great things that Scion has done for me since being a Scion owner in May and posting on this awesome wonderful great board. So long as it fits, I'll be wearing my Deck the Hall Ball Scion Shirt there. And I really, really enjoyed Jet last night. Gnarls Barkely was pretty entertaining too. I enjoyed the food and what little conversation I could muster up with you all. Geesh, a great night for only $8 spent for parking! Racinkid13 12-09-2006, 12:51 AM I personally like Danny Boy better..... :blah: ........... robbiej 12-09-2006, 01:32 AM well, I like Dynamo Hum, lol Jenna 12-09-2006, 10:49 PM neo/racin, if you go to AA.com and look up your reservations (use 6 letter code on your itinerary), does it show you as having seats on the plane... can you change your seats? I've got unassigned seats all the way to Miami and neither of the two flights there show available seats. I've got seats on the way back. Just wished I would of looked earlier and seen if there was some better ones I could of gotten. 2_tC 12-10-2006, 12:05 AM I'm flying American Airlines down there and was able to select my seats on both legs. I did select them early on though, when I first recieved flight info. Window seats baby! Jenna 12-10-2006, 12:31 AM Yeah... I think, for some reason, there is no way for anybody to assign seats on the two flights on the way down. I mean, there is absolutely no options and I don't have any assigned seat as of yet too. I just don't want to sit in the middle. 2_tC 12-10-2006, 12:48 AM On the AA.com page, when you look up your reservation, it doesn't give you an option to select your seat? Racinkid13 12-10-2006, 01:11 AM neo/racin, if you go to AA.com and look up your reservations (use 6 letter code on your itinerary), does it show you as having seats on the plane... can you change your seats? I've got unassigned seats all the way to Miami and neither of the two flights there show available seats. I've got seats on the way back. Just wished I would of looked earlier and seen if there was some better ones I could of gotten. yeah, im showin unassigned, and everythin unavailable, maybe its first come first serve?? Tomas 12-10-2006, 01:16 AM As usual, expect the airlines to sell about 150% of their capacity, and depend on a third of the people not showing up for the flight...of course if they do, not everyone gets on. There's just something basically wrong when they sell the same seat twice, and confirm that same seat to both people. :tap: Airlines often overbook flights, according to the ATA. Overbooking is the practice of selling more tickets for a flight than there are seats available. Airlines justify this practice by using historical analysis of traveller behavior. Often, travelers don't show up for a flight that they have a reservation for, or they don't make it to the gate in time. There are also travelers who reserve seats on multiple airlines and flights to ensure their travel plans. The ATA reports that airlines take great care in selecting which flights to overbook. They look at a flight's history of no-shows and try to match the overbook number to that. Obviously, overbooking can sometimes cause problems, such as when more people show up for a flight than there are seats available. When that happens, airlines give special incentives to travelers who are willing to give up their seats. Usually, these volunteers are given free fare on another flight. If an airline is forced to bump a passenger involuntarily, the airline must compensate that person. Tom neolusions 12-10-2006, 01:43 AM no seats on the way there for me either.. just on the way back Jenna 12-10-2006, 03:08 AM 2 tC, yeah, it does give us an option to change our seats. But for our two flights there, our seat is set to "unassigned" and the little picture of the airplane seats all have little gray Xs all over them. Can't select a seat. Tom, is that what happens when they over book? I was thinking it might of been that they weren't entirely sure what type of plane we'd be in, therefore couldn't give us seat numbers. neo/Racin, maybe we can tell the flight attendants we'd like to sit close to each other when we board. I'd prefer to not sit in the middle though, lol. Of course, I'm not exactly a barrel of laughs though... Tomas 12-10-2006, 05:41 AM I dunno, Jenna. Each airline site is different, and each airline is different. I'm assigned seats on all flights, some airlines don't pre-assign on certain flights, some airlines don't assign at all (SouthWest), some overbook to an incredible amount (Alaska, United), some don't overbook (JetBlue). Tomas BoiseAuctioneer 12-10-2006, 08:47 AM Tomas, insightful as always! Lets just hope that some of us don't get chose to involuntarily be passed on to the next flight robbiej 12-10-2006, 01:19 PM checked, my seats are all pre-assigned, even had my choice of seats on two flights. Jenna 12-12-2006, 01:59 AM So, did we ever confirm the dinner plans for Thursday? Meet in the lobby at 9pm? Going to walk to Burger_____es or something like that? Tomas 12-12-2006, 02:22 AM I suspect meet in the lobby - or at Cheeseburger Baby's - at 9PM or so. That will probably be less than 15 minutes after I get checked in after spending a long day on airplanes, so I'm having to depend on all the 'earlier arrivals' to have everything all sorted out and running smoothly. :P See y'all in Miami! Tom robbiej 12-12-2006, 04:32 AM hmm, I thought the plan was for 10 pm at burgerbabies, would love to get a burger after the long flight, I am getting excited about this trip, took the next two days off to get things organized so that there won't be any worries while I'm gone. As I said earlier, look out Miami, Washington is coming to town, lock up your wives and daughters, lol. Tomas 12-12-2006, 04:59 AM It was originally 10PM to allow people a little time after getting in, Robbie - I don't know how 9PM snuck in here. :) 10PM would probably be better for us left coasters - after all, it's only 7PM "real time." Thing is, it's a vast democracy, and we each only get one vote. :P I'll try to hit whatever time is set, but 10PM is what I would like to see as the target.
