Default Bad S/C bearing and engine damage (UPDATE 11/9/06)

How's it going all??? I just wanted to update my current situation on my S/C problem. I'm sure all you guys are familiar with me so I'll skip on the details. It's been a long week trying to get everything TRD wants from me and the time it's taken them to get back to the dealership. In short, we had to take a lot pictures to prove the setup is stock. Oh by the way, I hope all you guys out there have your tamper proof pulley caps on if the situation ever where to arrise you need a new S/C. In any case I've been having problems with my engine at the time of the bearing failure. Turns out some metal shavings may have gotten into the engine. The dealership just go tthe OK from TRD to pull the block. I just wanted to give the heads up to anyone who may have a blown bearing to very aware of what might happen if you don't catch it in time. Again good luck to everyone who has yet to experience any S/C related problems.

You'll hear it. There's a huge difference in sound. Zer0 posted a link to a video clip of a bad S/C bearing in one of my earlier topics.

ok, mine makes some weird noises, but nothing that loud or annoying. Mine makes a whining noise, but only when I take it to around redline or downshift into high RPM.

I have heard of more issues with turbo kits on the tC than the SC.. and you are 100% screwed on warranty then.

Dont get me wrong, I would go with a turbo, but as far as reliability, there have been a good number of failures.

many blown motors^^

yea yea they werent tuned right. installs account for probably 90% of all our SC and turbo problems. thats why i drove 2 hours to south jersey to get mine put in. well worth every penny. so far no complaints or failures from that dealer.

That's true about the install, even the service manager has admitted possible fault with the S/C alignment. I've heard of a lot of turbo problems but nothing actually related to product failue with the turbo itself. Everything seems to be tuning related. Me, I'm taking my down to ZPI for my turbo install this spring. Who else would know better than the guys who make them. Again, it's nice not to have to worry about anything in the case of a problem, or in my case an even bigger problem. Just sit back and let the warrenty take care of itself. The only thing is, I plan on keeping my car longer than I'll have my warrenty. I'm afraid of problems like this in the future if I were to keep the S/C.

mine started screaming Monday night. I stopped driving it and am taking it back to the dealer tonight to have it replaced. Good think I extended the warranty to 100,000 miles, that way I have a little more time to get rid of this car.

I will mention the engine damage to the tech tonight when I drop it off so they can check the oil. I will probably have them change the oil at no damn cost either since TRD screwed up my s/c. Hopefully the new one won't be bad too.....

I spoke to the techs today about the status of my car. The piston rings and cylinders and fried not to mension the camshafts have some pretty decent marks on them. They ordered a new small block and camshafts for the car. As of now the engine is completely gutted. I expressed how much I want to go back to stock and leave the new S/C off to keep some resale value on the kit. Seems easy enough given the fact everything is already out tof the engine bay. Just need a new ECU and oil pan. They're getting back to me on Monday when the serive manager come back in town.
