how did they F*** them up?

I don't have my data cable on me but I'll post pics as soon as I get it. I'm pretty sure the first one they mounted they were a little careless and punctured the lip in three different areas. The rest were fine which I'm thankfull for. I called back and they told me they couldn't do anything about it. They told me that, "...they're made from magnesium and it's verry delicate."

Anyone care to elaborate on that? I was thinking if they couldn't mount them without shanking my lip, they shouldn't have done it at all. I was really happy with my dealership up to this incident. I'm never going back. :flame:

I had a dream last night that someone jacked them. I found my car on donuts. I looked around and found the guy jacking someone elses rims. Tried to knock him out but he was invincible. Every time I hit him, I made no impact at all. I woke up ____ed and then realized I still have my rims.

always take your wheels to an experienced specialty shop. not everyone knows how to install thinner tires on larger wheels. not all shops have the proper equipment to it correctly either. i learned that the hard way too.

Finally got my data cable so here are a few pics I snapped when I got back from the dealership last week. It was a bit dark outside and the pics were taken on my phone so excuse the quality. I'll get some better ones up this weekend.

Here's what bothers me. After reading around, I thought 18x8 with a 35 offset was what I needed. Although, upon ordering, I asked them what offset would be best and I was told a 45 would be fine. I haven't had any rubbing issues that I know of. Anyone think this is going to cause a problem rubbing my struts?

Here's the biggest problem.

Any suggestions as to how I should handle this? I called and talked to the service manager, which I always go to to get things done. He's always done a great job untill now. I ask him what they're going to do about it. He tells me that they can't do anything about it, that the rims are made of "magnesium" (anyone feel free to chime in on that). "Take it to a rim specialist", is what he said. I'm ____ed.

I'm wondering if I escalate this to corporate, will it be worth my time...anyone?

magnesium wheels cost upwards of $1000 piece and weight nothing. only a handful of companies throughout the world manufacture magnesium wheels. i doubt they are magnesium. most likely cast aluminum.

a rim repair shop can sand it down, refill, and repaint it. expect to pay $80-100 per wheel and that does not include remounting/balancing the tire.

18x8 et35 is perfect. i'd stick a 5mm spacer in the rear.

That's what I was thinking. Then he told me they're magnesium coated. I could tell he was bsing me the whole time. Think I can get them to pay for it?

They only f**ked up one of them. Luckily.

I believe I'm running a 45 offset though. How can I tell? I was looking around the rim but couldn't find anything but the bolt pattern and lug info.

you have to look behind the wheel.
it should be stamped on the box/packaging next to the bolt pattern and size info.

Great News! I thought I'd give the dealership one last try to keep a good customer. Went in for my oil change and told the service manager to take a look at my rim and tell me that it wasn't their fault. He said, "lemme show you how we mount the tires." I got kinda scared and thought he would prove me wrong but thought I'd give it a try anyway.

Sure enough the mounts that hold the tire into place matched the scratches in my lip. So he gave me a number of a rim repair shop and told me to get a quote, that they would pay for it. I'm still uneasy about how it will look but it's better than nothing.

I have Bronze colored wheels and took it to Discount Tires...They scratched the rim part too when fixing my flat and put nice shhiny scratch on it..I saw it..they said they didnt Do IT!!!...B@stard$!!!! :gun: ....lol...guess you have to expect that when you have dark colored wheels!! :| :|

Tire Kingdom also scratched one of my factory wheels. The best thing to do is take them to a custom rim & tire shop and ask if they have a touchless mounting system. As for the scratched rim if you can't find someone to repair it give that shop Mgr an estimate for a new wheel and see what he says then. Next time you go get new tires take the person selling the tires out and showem your unscratched wheels first. That way if they're scratched after then they cannot deny they did it.

Yeah, that's a good way to start next time.

I'm glad I didn't go to tire kingdom. That was my first resort but they were taking too long to order my tires. So I just ordered them myself and took it to the dealer.
