Default stock intake

ok so i was pokin around with the stock intake today i took off the snorkel noticed a huge sound diffrence but no if not less power so im thinkin about gettin some ductin from auto zone or something to run it into the fender to get cooler air but as is right now can haveing the snorkel off while its raining cause me to get water into my intake because the inlet is right behind the fan... and my other observation. as i went to install my k and n airfilter i found a second filter at the top of the box is this really nessasy if nto how do i remove it..... its gotta kill air flow....

im trying to save money and not buy a cai or rai i was toyin with the idea of doi that but its not worth the money for one.

i read in a past issue of sport compact car (even though it has to do with the TC) that you shouldn't remove that dohickey thing, it apparently levels things out...i dunno...but i trust sport compact car. viva la car geeks!!

Levels what out?

If you're wanting to save money, just put a K&N filter in there and possibly route the tube towards the lower grill for cooler air.

yeah K&N filter for $50 and you can feel a diff.

I wish that someone could explain the turbulance thing that ilike is talking about...some people say to "level it out", while some intakes advertise that they induce turbulance for better performance.....

Who is right?

your intake manifold should create all the turbulance you need to better mix the fuel and air going into the engine. thats what the turbulance thing is all about.

then why do some intakes claim to smooth the turbulance while others claim to induce it?

technically you want a smooth air flow going in the intake manifold should create the proper turbulance to mix with the fuel.

turbulent air before the MAF is generally a bad thing and can mess up readings

ok so what about if i connect a flexable hose to the spot where the snorkel used to connect?

You could connect a flex hose to it, I'm sure other people have to get cold air...

I don't know how ARC intake boxes are set up, but for those who do, would it be possible to mod the stock box to work similar to the ARCs?

Just thought I'd throw that out there to possibly help this guy and anyone else wanting to mod their stock box.
