This may be a dumb question, but...

Do you keep that on forever or is it just for when you're showing your car off in a car show or something?

I'm not sure about the hatch overlays, but I assume so...it's just to add some color and spice up your ride.
Yes, you can paint the engine cover...just unscrew the 4 nuts...2 on top...2 in the front. Get some high temp engine paint at the local auto parts place and paint away.
Make sure you clean the cover...use some sort of adhesive promotor, then you can paint away...some use a primer...I did because the cover is black and I wanted to make sure it didn't bleed through to bad...a couple coats and whalla...

There are some good "how-to's" in the tech section...they give good walkthroughs in painting interior parts etc...same basic theory.
I painted most of the removeable parts in the interior without much prior experience...mostly it takes time, practice...and patience...lots of patience...I can't tell you how many times I screwed something up because I get antsy...patience young grasshoppa...and well the confidence that you can do it...
Practice makes perfect!!!

I painted mine with John Deere Yellow paint from Tractor Supply store. It matches very well. Also painted my RC cars with it. Just wash the cover with soap and water, after removing it. Let dry good and spray on 2 light coats of automotive primer. Then followed with 3 light coats of John Deere Yellow. I am going to put Carbon fiber vinal lettering and logo on it.

The store I found my paint at is called Tractor Supply. It carries farm and animal needs. I use the spray can type. Saftey Yellow is also close, can't remember the brand. Might check a local hardware store.
