Default TRD Springs price and installation question

OK, so i'm ready to buy my springs. I can get it for around 140 shipped to me, but I dunno how to install them and I found 2 people that could but they want between 150-250 for installing them and aligning the wheels. I see the dealer should charge 199.00 for them, but I went to my dealer today and asked if they were installed for that price, they said no, but don't have the spring anyway, not even in a near future. Now, I've read in here ppl saying it is 199 installed at the dealer, is that based on something or u just guessing? any dealers in here want to answer me this?

Thanks!

PS: WTF happened to the CAI? Did it get pushed back like the Supercharger?

I charge $50 labor for xA/xB installs, and $80 for tC installs. The dealer is way too expensive at $150 to $250. I've heard some dealers charging up to $500 labor.

Are these the "stock" lowering springs (ones provided as an option) also, will lowering the car by merely changing the springs adversely afect the suspension? Ive heard that the only good/real way to lower is shocks struts springs and the whole shebang

you don't have to change the suspension if you swap the stocks for TRD, at least thats what most ppl said here.

My dealer quoted my $500 just for labor I laughed at them and hung up the phone. I am going to be installing them myself within a few days.

I have no spring compressor, so I guess it would be kinda hard for me to do it by myself... =\

Where do you live, I can help install them for free if you can get a spring compresser.

Yeah, you should never get stuff done at the dealer. You think that if Toyota was going to do the Scion thing for real (meaning really encouraging "personalization") they would adjust the labor rates to something rational.

Autozone allows you to rent spring compressors for free I believe. All you have to do is give them a deposit which you get back after you return the tool. Or you could always be a jerk buy one use it and return it.

It's true you could use your springs with any shocks. However, to really get a kick out of your suspension, better to buy a set-up that was made for each other, at least from the same company, or at least properly tuned.

Supposedly the trd springs are designed to work with the stock struts... At least thats what I've heard.

At Autozone, you usually "buy" the product with the intent to return it. It's maybe $35-50. Most people just put it on their credit card and it gets credited when you bring it back. I looked at spring compressors at Sears and they were about $40.

you dont need a spring compressor. if you want to use one anyway, its a $10 deposit at autozone, and you get your deposit back when you return it. Or you can buy one for $9.99 at Harbor Freight. Seriously though, you dont really need a spring compressor.

Default installing

what are the chances of the shocks getting screwed up AFTER installing the springs yourself? i know the warranty on the shocks or anything in that area is voided if you install the springs yourself and something where to get damaged. i'm just really worried that i have to pay a load of $ to get it fixed if something where to happen. i'm still debating on whether or not i should pay the $300-400 to get it installed at the dealership to save the warranty.

This is the way I look at it.... Do it yourself save the $300-$400. Even if you do screw up your struts replacement ones are about the same amount that you saved on labor by doing it yourself. Plus the chances of you screwing up your struts are very minimal.
