As per the owner's manual, the first OIL change must NOT be synthetic. Remember you do have 3-complimentary oil changes. The Toyota tech guys should use 5W30 as per manual. The manual states that you could yse 10W30 but should be replaced ASAP with 5W30.

Once I complete the free oil changes, I'm heading towards Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic. I have to find a dealer uses MObil 1 and not the Castrol Syntec (half dino/ half synthetic) oil.

Oil is a religious topic, but the owner's manual pretty much spells it out. 5W30, API grade SL or better. Beyond that, perceived variations between refiners is pretty much a matter of advertising hype.

Synthetics are another matter. They can be a good idea, but don't get the idea that you can go forever between changes with synthetics. They require the same intervals as conventional oils.

With synthetics, make absolutely sure that the oil meets the manufacturers specifications and has been tested. Some of the "specialty" synthetic oil manufacturers either make oil that falls outside the specifications, or don't bother to conduct the tests. If Toyota finds out that you were using such oils your warranty is gone.
