But not for PS3 just yet.

And so, we can report today that no one has started to line up for the PlayStation 3 in Japan. This is based on a tour we took today of Tokyo's biggest game shops. That's right, the Bics, the Yodobashis, the Tsutayas, the Sakurayas, the Don Quixotes. No matter where we looked, no one was lining up for the 11/11 launch.

So the number of people waiting in line for a videogame system in Tokyo is... zero, right? Nope! There were actually lots of people waiting in line today as we made the rounds around the city. Only they weren't waiting for a PlayStation 3.

All those people may be standing in front of a PS3 display, but they're actually waiting for a Wii. Mega media retailer Tsutaya started Wii pre-orders on Thursday morning at 10:00, following a quiet announcement a couple of days prior. IGN checked in at the Shibuya Tsutaya outlet at 10:30 and found a line of at least 200 people waiting to pre-order a unit.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the PS3 has been out for a while in Japan and the WII is coming out more recently (thus explaining the line differences)...may be wrong though.

Maybe they are waiting for it for the same reason I'm going to wait outside a store. Because they happen to like those games. On the 19th I'll be more than content spending the start of my 3 days off playing the new Zelda, Red Steel and possibly Excite truck.

people are dumb to buy a PS3 on ebay for those ridiculous prices...but i guess if you gotta have one bad enough....

and for dude who said the Wii only has 5 good games...dont knock what you havent tried. the Wii is the ONLY system that is bringing something new to the table. Nothing about the PS3 changes the way you play games...cuz well, if you look at the control, its the same dual analog like the PS2, minus the rumble (boo hoo), plus the Six Axis wanna-be-but-will-never-be, Wii-mote rip off with only "tilt" functions, no 360 degree full motion sensing like the Wii has.

Developers can put as much eye candy into their game as they want, but hindering the gameplay will break it. every system has its good and bad games.

in the end, software sells hardware

i agree wit u eujin other than one thing.

im actually glad ps3 kept the same controller. its small, simple, nothin outrageous.

the last thing a game system needs are big asss controllers. i mean it'll be nice if they good features/capabilities, but it'll suck if you gotta hold it with two hands then remove one hand to push a button way on the other side. u kno?

nevermind that the Wii only has a few good launch games ... while I have never really liked Nintendo systems at all, I can't deny the fact they always ALWAYS have good games, if not at first than soon there after, and usually those games are Nintendo exclusives

Sony is marketing as a video game consol, and as an "affordable" blu-ray player.

MS360 was first on the scene, was the must have last christmas.
Wii carries nintendo's history with it, being the longest standing hardware and software developer in the gaming consol world.
ps3 is the current "big 3" to support blu-ray. Why would someone pay those prices for a ps3? It's a next gen gaming consol, with sony's gaming liscenses, and happens to be a blue-ray player, cheaper than most of the blu-ray dedicated players.

well, i just think that games should be fun. ill take a game that looks crappy but keeps me up all night playing it than games that look fantastic but arent fun at all. the new wii, wich isnt expected to have graphics that better teh 260 or ps3, will have games that are interactive with its interactive controllers. and they will be bringing back old titles that i used to play when i was like 4 years old which nintendo is famous for doing. plus the wii is expected to bring out games that appeal to teh older crowd like 1st person shooters and driving sim games

The PS3 will be a bust in Japan.

As for the U.S., there are a lot of stupid people here who will throw $600 away, and even stupider people who will spend $1,500 for it on EBay.

I can't wait to get my 360. Gears of War, Call of Duty 3 and Fear should keep me very busy this Christmas season. Oh wait, Halo 3 is coming out probably next spring? LOL! I'll be a b1tch of the 360.

I'll also be getting a Wii.

I'm not getting "the cheapest" Blueray player.
1. Bluray can still die as a format
2. Console/DVD players suck at playing movies, PS2 stunk as a DVD player

and its only ur opinion if u feel its stupid to pay 600 for ps3. personally, i dont care bout the price. i've like sony since ps1. i never like xbox, could never get the feel of the controller or the system. so i can careless bout 360.

and the games will come. its not like 360 had any tyte games when it came out. it really didnt have ____.

so u cant use games as an excuse, cause those will come over time

A $30 Walmart DVD player works better than a PS2. I don't know how low your standards are, but that's up to you.

Were darn good games.

and now lots of kick a$s games are coming out.

Gran Turismo? If you ever played GTR2 for the PC, you wouldn't touch Gran Turismo with a 10 foot pole.

Far Cry
Quake

PS3... nope.

Sure I can spend $400 on a video card alone, but I'd rather spend that money on a 360 and play on my big screen HDTV.

i dont have low standards, but the ____ is the same. it plays the dvd, thats all that matters. the controlling myte be different, regardless, the ____ pops up on the screen.

I dont think the ps3 will sell well in my area cuz of the price. Alot of my friends had trouble getting a ps2 and they started at 300 not 500 or 600. Whenever they lower the price is when they will sell.

It would be depend on where you go to camp out. Also a good idea to try and find out how many the store will actually have. That way you don't waste your time. Uh and you're female (no offense) but you proably might want some guy company people have gotten beat up for their 360s proabaly will be no different for PS3.

You people are all nuts. NONE of these gaming systems are worth more than $200 (Xbox 360 included). There will be huge lines for the PS3...count on it. That's stupid, but it will happen. What I really don't get is how much brand loyalty you guys are showing. It's a GAMING SYSTEM for crying out loud! You guys are acting like someone insulted your mother if they happen to like the one you didn't get. I think after spending that much money, nobody wants to admit that the other system is cool too. i actually like that controller! oh spECIal, in case you cared...madden usually has the greatest replay value. I like the feel of NBA 07 but for some reason 2k7 gets better reviews. I guess if you like the comp to perform this that you can't 2k7 would be the way to go...07 only does that slightly. And well madden is madden though im not a fan its good...real good

about Halo 3, make sure you reserve the 'Legendary' edition.

$100 will get you:
4 discs to include the game itself, cinemas, interviews, red vs blue un-aired episodes, and a life-size spartan helmet.

as far as PS3, i will not be spending 6 bills on a console. that is outrageous. all youre paying a super high price for is the blu-ray which will break as soon as the warranty runs out (remember the PS2 laser?) i think that if it didnt have that, it would be about what the 360 cost. granted that blu-ray players (and discs) are hella expensive alone, its neat that it is a part of the system. but $600 for a console? hmmmm...

...and i thought the 360 was too expensive...

id rather have $$$ for christmas presents and mods.P

but, to each their own.

Porbably won't go for it unless you get like an in game special bonus or something...either way is mass rape time...well whenever it comes out for now i stick to #2

I could've sworn I posted in a thread like this before. Ah well.

I don't plan on getting any of the new systems. If there was a remote chance of me getting one on launch day, it'd probably be the Wii. I'm not a Nintendo mark or anything like that, it's just that I've got a few more financial responsibilities now (tC, girlfriend, more bills) than I had when the ONLY system I stood in line for came out (DREAMCAST! I'm a 2-D fighter junkie, and my DC still works to this day). Now that I work full time and have a few more bills to pay, I can't afford to buy a system for that much money and have it sit and idle while I'm at work trying to pay it off.

I learned how to play FPSs on CS, so Halo is not that exciting to me. Maybe if they have a keyboard/mouse adapter or something, I'll rock that.

i am getting 6 ps3, have it all planned out and i am keeping one and selling other 5.
and by the way ps3 doesnt seem that impressive. they have it at local target and graphics are teh same as the 360, they have an mlb game you can play and it looks the same on teh 360
