Default Are my tire sensors defective?

I have an 07, and recently measured my tire pressures using an Accutire digital tire gauge (considered to be one of the most accurate out there).

Anyways, I measured it cold, and my fronts were showing 23 and 23.5.

Shouldn't my tire pressure sensor warning light things come on by now? That seems to me to be a significant difference... in fact, I consider that pressure to be dangerously low. That's nearly a 9 PSI difference from the "recommended" pressure.

I also took the PSI readings several times, and it all came back the same each time.

Should I be calling my dealer?

I know when i recieved delivery all my tires were between 24-26. I would wait a bit for it to warm up and then re-measure. But if it makes you feel better you can take it in to the dealer.

No it shouldn't, it doesn't measure low pressure, it measures if one tire is spinning differently than the others, which if they are all low, it wouldn't trip the sensor. try filling one up to 32 and i'll bet you will see a difference. BTW, why the hell are your tires so low anyway?

The 07's have a different system; they relay exact PSI measurements via radio sensors in each of the wheels.

I'm not sure why my pressures were so low, but I did fill them up today.

Also, tire pressures are measured cold - so if I took the warm value as good, then that'd be a dangerous exercise at best.

I filled them up to 40.5/38 today. That was warm, so I'll have to see what my actual pressures are tomorrow morning.

I really hope my dealer didn't fill them incorrectly to begin with. Underinflation is significantly more dangerous than overinflation could be.

Minpin, btw you should really fill those tires up. That's too low.

Yea I think I'll tell the dealer whenever I take it in next... but they'll probably just measure my tires (which will obviously be fine since I take care of that now) and say everything's fine.

40? Wholly Sch-nikes!! The sticker inside my Driver's side door says to fill the fronts to 32PSI and the rears to 29PSI.

BTW-I got a flat ( ) yesterday. I wasn't that far away from home so I flew there and just put on my 5Zigens. The whole 3/4 of a mile I drove my tire sensor light never came on. I have an 'o5, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

It was 40 warm/hot so chances are it will settle to about 36 by tomorrow morning, which I don't consider to be dangerously over anyways. Our max sidewall pressure is about 44, and a lot of folks routinely fill to a min. of 35 cold.

I'll probably go with about 34 or so.

And yea, our stickers say the same thing

I want some cool magnets and magnetic roads, so that we don't need to stinkin tires anymore! Of course... not sure how we'd stop

i think japanese trains are magnetized....
40psi?????? WAAAAY too dangerous!!!!
u gonna get a flat with that kinda pressure
that is, if u go 80mph with 40psi.....
check the panel on the driver side when u open the door... its all listed there incase u didnt know

^^If you fill it to 40 warm then if it cools it will be more than 40psi. The tires expand when warm so fill them with 40 and when they cool they will contract and be a higher psi.

Oh and we could totally do magnetic roads!! Lol! I am such a nerd. If they were electromagnets at least we could bc you just make enough of a mag. field in the right direction to oppose the mag. field of the road and there you go! OR, you could cut off the induced current from the road to the car and it would make the car stop levitating or whatev. I dunno really, I'm just speculating! YEssss!

If it cools, the PSI should go down, though. Warm temps expands air, and as such, would make for higher PSIs. It's not uncommon for seeing up to a 6 PSI variance on really hot tires (like cruising on the highway for a long time).

That's why you should only take pressure readings when the tires are cold, as in, not driven on for several hours and not sitting in the sun.

And yes, let's do it, Jovan... except, what will happen if you get knocked off the road?

^^ I didn't even think about the air ... duh. Sorry, I wasn't thinking.

Well ... uh ... I didn't think about betting knocked off the road ... well ... I am stumped on that one! HAHA. Guess you better not ever get knocked off the road. OOORRR ... we could have magnetic cars WITH wheels just in case, eh? Haha!!!

To whoever said i should fill up my tires, what i meant was that when i took delivery they were very low. I have, ofcourse filled them up since, a couple times actually. I misinterpreted your original post, i thought you just got your car

yea... ever try making a magnet "levitate" on top of a magnetic field?

impossible.

needs moar superconducters...

no...i bet the dealer did not set the system when u got your tC
the system has to be turned on and set with the correct pressure to come one
go to your manual for programming instructions

when you fill up your tires on a tC you need to reset the sensors. The button is in your glove box.
