Default The tC's gas mileage sucks!

I had to fill up my tank after just a 4 hour drive from Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale. This is pretty sad considering that my old Mercedes 300E 2.8, which was much heavier, and a 6 cylinder, got significantly better MPG.... I was able to drive from Tampa to Miami on one tank. That's about 1 1/2 hours more driving! I don't know exactly how many miles it is from Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale, but that's besides the point, and can be looked up online if any of you are curious.... The tC is in desperate need of a 6 speed. I was cruising at an average speed of 80 mph. It revs to high. This sucks. I'm buying a Prius....

By travelling at 80mph instead of 75mph, you saved just 12 minutes over your entire trip. However, your power consumption went up by a huge amount because of aerodynamic drag is proportional to the square of velocity (and hence power is proportional to the cube of velocity)

Did you not read the window sticker when buying?

Oh and you cant say one car can go from a-b on a full tank and another cant. I dont know what size tank the mercedes has, but if they arent the same size, the comparison is pointless.

mercs are going to have large tanks, especially if its a large car

also, if you're buying a Prius for gas savings, you might as well buy premium because it'll give you an extra 350 whp

Oh and looking up fuel economy a 300E 3.0L gets 18 city 22 highway.

Cant find the 2.8, but I imagine its not to much different.

Your tc gets better mpg than your mercedes. You don't understand how mpg works, your mercedes probably had a 19 gallon tank.

I don't know why people complain ... compared to cars the size of the tC ours has the most power (at least compared to hondas and mazdas) and I know you can read the sticker on the side of it. I am also pretty sure that with a 14.5 gal. tank you won't be able to go that far anyways, and they did that on purpose. Aaaand, I don't know about you, but my tC gets awesome gas mileage (unless I am punching it like mad crazy). Learn to drive slower or something because anything above like 65 is going to use a lot more gas. And keeping the sunroof closed helps, not even kidding.

very true! I see a lot of tC owners going around with their roofs open basically all the time. It's tempting, I know, because we do have cool roofs, but really, close those windows and roofs... keep the aerodynamic profile of the car perfect. Your wallet will thank you (as will your hair hehe).

you sure you didn't just drive one day to discover that you can can go 31.8 miles to the gallon, and then you multiplied that by 13.5 gallons - .5 lol. I've been around the 380s cruise controlling, but I guess 430 is theoretically possible. okay okay maybe it is. I don't want trouble lol. please dont reply with some rebutle.

Most cars can easily exceed EPA mileage, i'm not going to get into it.

Not using cruise control will get you better MPG.
