Default What should I do for my first mods? :)

I just took delivery of my new xB on Saturday! I have a lot of things I'd like to mod, but I'm going to start small, and all my mods will be practical and not just for looks. I'd like to start with a ground wire kit.

Does anybody know where to get some 4 AWG power cable in... green? I know red and black are available, as are blue and silver, but I really want green!

Oops, I forgot. The first mod to get is an ALARM. What's the preferred brand on here? Viper?

Viper or Python are the 2 best Alarms in my opinion? I remeber some one asking the same question about Green wire a few months ago.. some one else had some but not sure where they got it from.. Im sure some one in this crazy world makes Green thou... Intake would be a good start to.. few more ponies and awsome sound.. Ohhh and congrats on the new ride and welcome to the Family.

I forgot about the intake! Ground wire, intake, alarm, tint, maybe an underpanel? *Functional* mods. After a while I'm going to figure out how to get my stereo gear in there.

i would mod in this order: stance, stereo, speed. when considering wheels DO YOUR HOMEWORK, especially regarding offsets. on a 7.5 rim, nothing over a +42 will fit, and don't' let anyone tell you otherwise. I can prove it.

I personally like the look of rims flushed to the fenders, and to do that you would need a +20 up front and +10 in back (again on a 7.5). If you do not want to go staggered like that, you'd want OTG 10mm rear shims, and run +20 all around.

Don't buy parts from the dealerships. you can find what you want by asking around here. I've only put about an extra 6k into my box, but if I had paid full price for everything, and then had it installed, I'm sure it would be over 15.

Practical?

Shocks. Stereo.

I put the Monroe's on the back and the ride was much better. I put the Alpine deck in and even without changing the speakers the sound is much better.

Congrats on the new ride!

First things first, hit up the Tech Section of this site and do all of the free/cheap mods. Debadge, cabin air filter, clear headlights, ect. These mods are cheap and easy.

Good luck.

Probably the first should be the cabin air filter. Use search and you will find many DIYs on this. Cheap and easy. Then as you drive arould breathing clean air, you can then decide on what you want to do next.

I'm not sure, but I might already have a cabin filter installed! I have to double-check, but I saw something filter-like when I was looking behind the dash when I popped out the speaker. It was against the firewall, so I'm not sure...

The cabin air filter is accessed by dropping the glove box all the way down. You can then pull the air filter tray. Filters from Toyota are like $20. You can make your own for less than $4.

Give Randode an email about the ground wire kit.

www.randode.com

My 1st mod was alittle drastic, the wife still thinks I'm nuts, but I'd drop it first.

First, decide what you want to focus on. Is it performance? Is it looks? Sound? That decision should drive your choices.

I chose performance. Tanabe springs. Exhaust (Supertrapp that I've had for 15 years). Lightweight 15" Enkei RPF1 wheels. Perrin/AEM intake. Scangauge II to tell me what's going on.

It handles well and looks good.

Next addition is new, adjustable front struts to take care of a small suspension travel problem. Oh well, as one guy told me, "If it's not low enough to be irritating, it's just not low enough."

Default ...Breath clean air like your engine breaths...

I INSIST on that CABIN AIR FILTER. It is in a draw behind the glove box, I'm not sure what you saw, but if you did not pull out the draw, you would never see it.
If you got one from the dealer, you would be the first one ever. Your filter draw is empty, just like everyone else.
See the TECH thread called 'Fabricate your own CABIN AIR FILTER' and see photos of how to pop off your glovebox to access filter tray. Make one or get one from any parts store for about $12. Same filter as the 05 RAV4.
It filters out pollen and stops that dust from accumulation on your dash. Lasts 15 to 20,000 miles.
Then move on to other mods.....
